Mitch Kupchak, you are perhaps the best GM in the NBA.

In less than a year, he has...

- Resisted trading Kobe Bryant and Andrew Bynum when the pressure was on.
- Traded BRIAN COOK and Mo Evans for our new bench stud, Trevor Ariza.
- Acquired Pau Gasol for KWAME BROWN and some mediocre draft picks.
- Re-signed Andrew Bynum for less than he could have received on the open market.

We all bashed Mitch, now we really have to give him some appreciation.

I've always tried to be a Mitch supporter. People hated on him when he was given a pretty bad hand. He was told to trade Shaq to an eastern conference team, find a new coach, and try to resign Kobe Bryant all in the same offseason. The fact that this team is afloat 4 years later is amazing, but they have the best player and the deepest team in the game.

Mitch had it wrong this WHOLE time....

While I disliked him at times for the inability to pull the trigger on certain things, he was screwed over by Shaq's no trade clause.

Yup, we got screwed by Shaq, but times have changed. Mitch obviously knows what he is doing. I'd like to add that getting Powell cheap instead of spending big money on Turiaf was also a brilliant move. Powell is more then adequate replacement. OK, he can't dance like Turiaf, but he sure can rebound, shoot and dunk.

And to add to the list of kudo's:

-Drafting Farmar
-Drafting Vujacic

But let's not forget the few blemishes:

-Luke's contract
-Butler trade (even though it eventually led to Gasol; but it was initially a bad trade)

I believe like the entire Bynum ordeal that this wasn't his choice. I think Phil went for this one.

To be fair Kwame was a gamble. At the time people thought he could blossom to a 20/10 guy under Phil and next to Kobe in a new town. Fortunately Mitch was smart enough to only sign him to 3 years so in case Kwame ended up sucking (which he did) Mitch would have a big expiring that he could use to aquire a star.

ALL HAIL MITCH!
“If somebody had their life on the line, and they’ve got their options on who they want to save their life – tell me who you’re going to pick?” Bryant asked. “You’re going to look at the stats first?”

For all the bashing that Mitch has endured from members here in the past (including myself), this thread is definitely needed. Time to praise him for building a wonderful lineup from starters to the bench mob WITHOUT giving any of the Lakers' valuable assets.

I can say I stood behind the guy. I always felt that injuries hindered his good moves, (Evans, Bynum, and Kwame when he was beginning to shape up like he was supposed to) I can say that I owe no apology, I was always behind him. Yes this thread is needed.

I gotta admit...I was stupefied by his moves but stuck with the team. I thot the Shaq trade was great coz I love Lamars game and thot it would work out in our favor. i also dug the Kwame pickup at first bcuz I thot the change of scenery would do him well. Last summer was the lowest point for me tho'.I thot Kobe was gone or we would have traded Bynum for somethin stooopid. Kwame had become lead hands and half the squad was injury prone or just plain sorry.

I guess we should all learn a lesson in patience..

Wait. That's not very fair.

You're saying that Luke's contract ended up being bad, but the saying it didn't matter what the Caron trade ended up being, because initially it was bad (which I agree with). Also, 71% of CL said they agreed with the Caron for Kwame trade because we soooo badly needed a big man at the time.

But Luke's signing was initially good -- no one complained about it, several people were happy about it (some ecstatic given he shot like 50% from 3pt range for half a season) as Luke posted a very respectable 11/5/4 as a starter.

You can't say one move was bad because initially it was bad, and the say the other move was bad because it ended up being bad. They were BOTH moves most of us supported when they were made.
