Postby Laker brain on Tue Jun 03, 2003 5:07 pm

PG Gary Payton/Fisher/Pargo
SG Kobe Bryant/Rush
SF Devean George/Fox/*Travis Outlaw
PF *Kendrick Perkins/Medvedenko/Madsen
C Shaquille Oneal/

*Draft picks

That is what may truly happen

Note that Perkins and Outlaw are both highschoolers who are the 2nd and 3rd best Highschoolers other than Lebron.

Outlaws stock went down to where the lakers can get a steal in the draft.

You are wrong. Ndudi Ebi is better than both of those guys. I live in South Texas and watched Perkins more than once. Perkins is too big for his own body. He can't get up off the ground quick or high enough to be a good rebound and shot blocker in college. His offensive game is polished but defensively he is very vulnerable. Outlaw depends on his ahtetisism too much, which in the NBA pratically everyon is the athlete he is, so I don't think he will be that effective early. I like Ebi and Marcus Moore a 6-6 PG out of Washington State, who is quick and a great passer. Watch the Mcdonalds all American game, Ebi took Lebron every chance he got and did great. But he did get dunked on... :bang:

Ebi's stock went down after his leg injury, and Ebi is a SF, Perkins is a PF and with a proper trainer can easily get better. We need a good PF really soon.

2 HS players drafted? THats not a good idea at all. It takes a while for these youngsters to contribute. Only "The Stud" has quicky adjusted to the NBA. The Lakers could draft one but not two. The lakers need player that can help right away. They are in the title hunt each year and they need to try to get at least one player this year in the draft who can play. They need a proven college player or a European player. That would be a lot better than too HS players. Especially because i Think PErkins is too fat and wont be that good.

2 HS wouldn't be bad if LA could back it up with some sawvy veterans like Payton and Malone.

hey danny, did you see the bench last year. If they have two Vets starting they will still need players off the bench. All of the good teams have a strong bench. Even if Malone and Payton start our bench is weak. We still have Madsen and Medvedenko on the bench. They suck comparted to Malik Rose. We cant afford to have to HS players stuck to the bench and have our roster cut to 10. Is it just me or does anyone else what to see Mark Madsen stuck on the bench.

I like the Perkins pick, but even if we're keeping Medvedenko and Horry, we need to add a power forward more than a point guard. PF is a crying need in free agency, cuz no punk is coming in here to check Malone, Duncan, KG, Rasheed etc. on a night to night basis. The list is real short: Malone, PJ Brown, Juwan, or (@ the outside, a remote possibility, but very exciting) Zo. That'd leave the mock roster as follows:

Fish/Pargo
KB8/Rush
Devean/Fox
Free agent/Horry/Medvedenko
Shaq/Perkins

I'll admit that as a mock GM, I've failed to address perimeter mobility, but I'd probably want to take a senior guard with a good defensive game with my first round pick, reversing the (stupid) policy from last year that saw us take a rookie shooter. If I can get anything IN ADDITION to the PF in free agency, I'll take a rangy perimeter stopper.

No one wanted Kobe as a High Schooler either.

I'm more inclined into getting proven college players than inexperienced high schoolers. Getting a Travis Hansen and West is not bad.
I don't mind getting a high schooler, as long as we get a college player or an experienced foreign player with the other pick. Picking 2 high school players with our 24 and 32 picks will benefit us 4 years from now, not next year. And we need to win next year.

Oooh aight I c.. So it's like ur lookin for players who are gonna make their marks next year, right? That's coo... but no matter what, if we keep our picks, they're prolly not gonna get PT, cuz we know how Phil is with rooks..

Not make their mark, specifically...but atleast make some sense of contribution.

Last year was Ginobli's first year with the Spurs and he ended up being a major factor in a championship season.

The Lakers need a Ginobli of next year, instead of a project.
Someone that can contribute.

Also if Phil wants to win next year, he better play the best players and not just look at the status of players.

I say we either move up in the draft or go for a high-schooler... look at the percentage of HSers that have turned out good... it may be a gamble, but it might benefit us in the long-run

Slava laughed at the suggestion his skills might be affected by the down time. "Are you kidding?" he said. "Basketball is like ball. It's all a circle."

We can't gamble on High Schoolers in the draft. With the glut of athletic players that will come in right away and make a difference, why take an unnecessary gamble at such an important and vulnerable time for our team?
