He wont do it. He teased the Kings exactly like that in his previous contract and he opted in

^big difference here. This is LA and Ron has many outside interest within the community. I agree with the others that MWP really loves being here.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

He was on the right side of 30 then.

If he wants to stay a Laker he will do it.

It'd actually love it if he did that. I don't want him gone, I just want him in a lesser role for less money. He brings intensity every game, that much is for damn sure. Even if he's an absolute moron on offense.

He had too much game for that at the time. We couldn't dump him for a 2nd rounder right now. Different situations. This would be big of Ron, would love to have him off the bench for cheap the next couple years.

As long as his minutes aren't reduced to next to zero, I think World Peace will be OK with it. Didn't he come off the bench during this season for a spell? I still would want Clark at the 3.
Nor can the Lakers get blamed for always making the right decisions over decades. At some point its not just luck or "gamble", its superior management and superior ownership.

^ Or at the 4 so we can get a nice 2-way wing. Then use MWP/Jamo as backup 3/4? With another young bench player we pick up that can play the 2/3?

Well this is not good

Latest Lakers setback: Metta World Peace has a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee. He is returning to LA for further examination.

I hope MDA goes with Clark/Meeks/Kobe instead of Pau/Clark/Kobe. I dont think Metta would help us this week vs smaller faster athletic teams, just rest up and ready to go next week

I think this is the same injury that Bynum played with during the NBA finals run. He might be super limited but I think he can play with this injury

In all my years of following Laker basketball or the NBA for that matter, I have NEVER come across a squad so hard hit with injuries. This is just beyond absurd...

This means more Kobe at the 3 and more Meeks/Blake at the 2. May not be a bad thing, better decision making, 3 point shooting and mobility on the court

Lakers have not yet specified about surgery for Metta. If so, a general recovery time estimate might be ...
6-8 weeks. But that's generally speaking. Minnesota's Chase Budinger just missed four months after surgery to repair his torn lateral meniscus. It obviously depends on the size and type of tear. But there are only about three weeks left in the regular season.

If he needs surgery he's done.

Sorry bout the injury. First ever knee injury. Recovery time hopefully is a week and a half

Hopefully? Damn if there was ever a time for Pau to quit pouting and step up its now. Need guys like Clark and Meeks to play better....also MDA needs to give Ebanks some minutes. Its desperation time

From Dr. Robert Klapper
A lateral meniscus tear is more unusual than a medial tear. Rare for this to heal on it's own. Depends on location for repair vs trim.

Pain from lateral meniscus tear comes from the abnormal pull on the cartilage as it slides pulling on the rich nerve supply. Swelling follow

Damn, if the estimation is about 6-8 weeks then Metta is done for the season. :man5:

We need to start Earl Clark at the 3 in the absence of Metta, we might see some actions from Ebanks too.

Starting lineup : Dwight - Jamison - Clark - Kobe - Nash

Bench unit : Pau - Meeks - Blake - Ebanks
Michael Jordan : "My Chicago team are the all-time greatest"
Magic Johnson : "Put me with Kareem, James Worthy, Cooper and Byron Scott, and we'd dominate your Bulls team"

Before long, someone recognized Phil Jackson sitting in the front seat, and then the rocks began to fly. Revelers pelted the bus and shook it, mocking the Lakers at their lowest moment.

It was painful,” Lakers forward Pau Gasol(notes) said. “It is a feeling that I want to keep in my mind for every single minute that I’m out there playing them.

This is what I was just thinking. We really may have seen Ron's last game as a Laker last night because we all if not most of the members here would agree given Ron's contract and what his inconsistent outside shooting that he won't be back this year.

I'd be shocked if he didn't need surgery. We'll know tomorrow, but not looking good.

Have had one of these.

You can play through it once the initial swelling goes down but not well..... so I'd doubt we see anything meaningful from him the rest of the year and he may be done for the year depending on the severity of the tear.

Too bad..... while not a great player anymore he was one of the consistently motivated and engaged players we've had this year.....
