If we're booting out Metta (which seems almost a given), then I think we should look to fill in the SF gap with available cheap players. The wing position is the easiest to fill in free agency and I think that's what the Lakers will be thinking.

Clark is just a tad too slow to play SF and with Jamison likely departing I think we'd be best suited to groom him for that position. Have him play behind Pau, playing significant minutes, and developing. My plan (if we stand pat on Pau):

Nash/Augustin/Blake (if he's not traded)
Bryant/vet. min/Goudelock
vet. min/vet. min
Gasol/Clark/vet. min
Howard/Hill/Sacre?

*edit* I found the poster quoting this on LG,

No sense that the Lakers are going to use the amnesty on Pau Gasol. They will only move him if it's a blockbuster trade, but they won't move him just for a salary dump.

Metta World Peace's last days are coming via amnesty. He's been told recently to opt-in because Lakers will still pay him the $7.7 million left of his contract if he gets amnestied.

Shame about the Pau bit if true, there is no blockbuster trade for Pau that I can see, Lakers are either just putting that out there or are delusional.

its not delusional, its keeping your game face and not showing opponents a weakness....what you want them to say, we gona trade Pau for whatever bum comes our way? I mean I hated on Jim for saying he might not have even considered trading Bynum for anyone and we all knew that was just a smoke screen. Mitch says dont expect a home run last off-season and look at all the fever pitch hatred towards mgmt., me included :man10:

Well that's what I said isn't it? They're either "just putting that out there", as in not wanting to show their hand as usual, or they're delusional, and I do not believe they are delusional when it comes to Pau. I think they know what he is now, and will trade him if the right deal comes around, but not if it screws up the 2014 plan. So in the regard I think the blockbuster trade statement is true, they would trade him for a great player that wouldn't hurt the 2014 plan in that they'd get a star so they might not need to go after one in 2014 (I assume Love would be a target), but again I don't see that type of deal for Pau.

If MWP is amnestied, I think all signs point to Kobe transitioning to the 3 next year. Good transition for an aging star like Kobe. Then sign any combination of Livingston, Devin Harris, Bellinelli or Mayo (pipe) to run in the backcourt with Nash.

IF MWP is following his moronic brother advice then I feel less sorry for him if/when he gets the AX. Peace out Metta, appreciate 2010 but if you dont see that you're a detriment to the team then I dont feel sorry to see you go.

I don't feel sorry for him at all ever. The man is in his 30s and has made more money than most make in their lives playing basketball. I'm not sure he could have done anything other than this either, so he's had an incredibly fortunate life.

If he opts in for the money, I'll totally understand. So will the Lakers and so will he as he packs his bags and heads for the door.

If our willingness to sign FA's and/or take back salary in a Pau trade, it's a no brainer. There are several cheap wings available that fit better than Ron. I think the only ways he's on the roster next season is if he opts out & takes the minimum or Phil comes back.

That is a real good point. Kobe needs to bulk up for it though.

Kobe can not guard elite 3's. And if you have an OJ Mayo and not have MWP guarding the elite players. Kobe will get worn down again if not worse. Lakers need to keep Kobe at the 2 and they need to have a funnel system to Dwight. It is what they in Orlando. If they dont do that, Lakers will run into the same problems.

MWP is getting amnestied. I would guarantee it. However, I think the Lakers are waiting just in case someone comes in on a trade that would be able to package MWP with it. Either way though, MWP is gone.

Bulking up isn't a good idea. His older knees need less weight. Not more.

Yeah Kobe doesn't need to bulk up or guard bigger stronger players on a regular basis at this stage in his career. We need a starting SF & a good backup. I know we have Clark but I like him much more at PF, especially now that Jamison is probably gone.

Metta World Peace released a children’s book
Posted by Trey Kerby under Books, Los Angeles Lakers on May 29, 2013

Here’s something that happened that I’m not going to even try to explain, courtesy of the Los Angeles Daily News:
[It’s] hardly surprising that World Peace just released a children’s book titled “Metta’s Bedtime Stories.” The back of the book’s cover reveals the bedtime stories include the following titles, “Tomorrow,” “Reach for the Sky,” “One Wish,” “Mud in My Bed,” and “I’m Afraid of the Dark.”
But this 34-page illustration book geared for 4 to 10 year olds go beyond World Peace making silly jokes. The book, available, available online here and on Amazon for $12.95 for soft cover and $14.95 for hard cover, will have a portion of those proceeds benefitting World Peace’s foundation, Xcel University which primarily raises funds and supports various mental health charities and programs. Some of the proceeds will also help the foundation run by World Peace’s father, the Artest foundation, which supports inner city youth geared toward promoting non-violence.
Yes, this is true. The Amazon listing, for your perusal.
Metta’s Bedtime Stories is dedicated to ALL Children, Families, and Educators. Metta’s Bedtime Stories was written to help children think about daily events in a positive light. These stories will show everyone that you can always have a better day tomorrow, if you have a hopeful heart and keep positive thoughts. Five stories are featured in this book: I’m Afraid of the Dark, Mud in My Bed, One wish, Reach for the sky, and Tomorrow.
It’s 2013 now. Ron Artest is Metta World Peace, Metta World Peace is an award-winning mental health advocate and Metta World Peace wrote a book for kids. This is only surprising if you haven’t noticed that basically any player who wants to write a children’s book can if they want to. This is just how things work. At this point, having a kids book is like having a super-verified Twitter account.
I don’t know what to tell you — I’m just not surprised that Metta World Peace would come out with a children’s book. Considering the Lakers have nothing better to do, he might as well get some of his writings out there. Not to mention, since it’s releasing in the offseason, Metta won’t have to ask for time off to promote the book, unlike when his first record came out. As long as he didn’t include his classic story of a friend getting killed by a table leg to the chest, full steam ahead on this book boat.
Oh, let’s also make sure that the “Mud in My Bed” is really just mud. Frank Reynolds knows what I’m talking about.

Defense was definitely not amazing. I wouldn't lump him in with the guys that can guard those guys because out of that list, Boozer yes, ZBo maybe and definitely no to Lebron and Parker. MWP must have forgot when he tried to pick up LBJ 5 ft behind the 3 point line and he got the blown by every time.

all of this points to super denial at this stage. Maybe he did say this maybe he didn't because I didn't listen to the interview but I wish he would own up a little to missing so many shots and not being consistent period.

I think the Dwightmare is coming..... and we won't be making move early waiting for the diapered one to get enough media spotlight and pick his team.

Once he does we will have a clearer picture of what we can do. I can see a scenario where he stays just because we can't get anyone better......

Lol Ron is in total denial. Kobe went out of his way, more than a few times to set this guy up for open threes that he continuously bricked.

Goodbye and good riddance.

He played some tremendous defense against guys who aren't very good and against bigger guys. Speed didn't just kill him, it destroyed him. He cannot stay in front of the quicker guys in the league today.

I'm not gonna hate on MWP, he played hard for us he's just old now, he even came back off injury quick for the playoffs. That said, I want him amnestied, we need to move on, thanks for the big contributions to the 2010 championship, good luck wherever you go next.

I'd love to have him back but not at his salary. I don't think it's the end of the world if we keep him as long as we get a starting SF to move him to the bench. He can still be a good roleplayer, we just can't have him playing 30+ MPG.

love this guy's personality, flat out entertaining. i know he needs to be amnestied, but his character will definitely be missed. it was always nice knowing i never had to question his effort on the court.
