Great player but he's looking more than a little pathetic holding on this long.

Wants that loot I guess.

^^9 Million is a huge incentive to hang on…. Hell if someone was offering my 1/5 that I'd do everything possible to ride it out.

He gets that money whether he's playing, retires or is forced into medical retirement. The only way he's not getting that money is if he pulls a J.Kidd.

I'm not sure he gets it all Doc.

I think the insurance would cover some of it but I'm not sure he gets the entire 9 million if he retires. I think he'll get most of it though.

Maybe….. but medical retirement is a pretty hard hurdle to jump from what I understand. As long as he can play in games he's not qualified for that exception.

Insurance pays the Lakers for a portion of his salary depending on the policy…. it doesn't help us avoid any tax related penalties or open more cap space. The only thing that does that is a Medical Retirement that I know of.

If he takes medical retirement before playing his 10th game his salary will not count against the cap next season.

What's the over/under in how many games it will take him to be hurt again?

the guy just wants his money

he screwed the lakers over in the playoffs 7-8 years ago and now he's screwing them over again. i guess it'll just take a real serious injury to get him to finally retire

That take is ludicrous. Right, Steve Nash is trying to screw the Lakers because he is an ex Sun. :what: Think about it honestly. Do you really believe that over the truth that the guy is doing everything he can to play again at least for this year for one last season even if he retires in the summer. And not go out with crappy, niggling injuries that keep him from playing because of discomfort.

I'm gonna give Nash the benefit of the doubt. Everyone thought he was stupid for coming back at all, but he proved everyone wrong and has looked good in the games he's played so far. (Not good as in he's an elite player or anything, but he's at least competent, and to me that's a good enough reason for him to continue playing since it's clear he loves the game so much). Until I see otherwise, I'm going to assume that what happened in the last game was minor and he left the game for precautionary reasons. If he comes back and is significantly hampered in the next game or shows that he can't sustain playing in NBA games for much longer then I'll change my tune, but as of now, that's not the case. I get the frustration with the whole 10 game medical retirement rule, but the Nash hate on here is really unfair.

How is he screwing us? Why should he just give it up? Would You? Would Pau? Would Kobe? Every person with the passion/love for the game would do and try anything to play (even if looking from the side things looks just stupid). Hell, if Nash is screwing us, Kobe screwed us even more with his new contract :man12: Let him play out the season and hire him as a coach next year.

I will say this about what Nash is doing….. He's smart enough to know that he s never going to play at his previous level every again. His injury and condition is chronic and won't get better. He's on a last place team that has no future in his contract term. Those three facts alone make me wonder why he's hanging on other than the money. There really is no other answer from a competitive standpoint.

Its not his fault Mitch Kupchak agreed to pay a 40 year old point guard 9 million dollars.

well, who in the world wanted nash in the first place? a 38 yr old PG at the time.

although sessions didnt fit our roster, i was glad we were heading towards getting younger.

i was really appalled by the nash decision, i rather of just kept fish. but i would be lying if i wasnt curious/a bit excited to see how nash was going to turn out, but from the beginning i knew it was just a selling point for dwight.

i always thought Mo Williams fit our style, a younger fisher type PG that can play well off the ball and can spot up shoot and make timely shots at the right time.

im not praising Mo, its just that hes a younger fisher type of player, and kobe during those years fisher was gone, could of used a player like that.

sessions was horrible fit, just for the fact that hes not a spot up shooter, he missed a bunch of open threes because thats not his game (while he was with us)

nash is a great 3pt shooter, but he also wasnt efficient just being a spot up when kobe was ball handling.

we need proven players that fit well with our roster. Mo isnt great defensively, but hes better than nash, younger than fish, and has adequate play making skills and vision.

i always thought he'd be a perfect fit with kobe. but then again, we should of had CP3.

but i was never high on Nash, i'm not one that always says "hes old and hes done" but the whole notion of getting rid of fisher and gettin sessions and getting younger the season before, i thought we took two steps back.

anyone notice the season before he signed with the lakers he was fine, but all of a sudden when he comes to our team, he needs a screen just to get past half court?

yeah more of a reassurance to howard saying we have a future HOF pass first PG on the team, dont worry you'll get yours.

nobody expected dwight to start doing dope and think he was the next coming of hakeem calling for the ball in the post to either brick, airball, get stripped, turn over by a late pass, or completely miss every freethrow.
