Maybe,...... But you still don't make the call or you do and don't act on the info? Mitch is the GM and he negotiates the deals that people above him want.

Buss may have wanted Nash but Mitch executed the trade.

So Mitch's boss tells him to get Nash, and Mitch is supposed to do what? Threaten to resign?

If it was Jim that was pushing for it, then I don't blame Mitch one bit.

You make sound as if you were in the office hearing this... If Mitch was told to go get Nash I'd hope to god he's also trying to find out if he's healthy by any and all means necessary. If not then he needs to resign IMHO.... that's his freaking job. If he had found that out and then went back to Jimmy with it we may not have this stone albatross around our neck.

Man.... there is no stink that can stick to Mitch it seems.... he's truly teflon on all bad decisions and everything that goes right is all him....

If everyone thinks Jimmy is such an idiot then he wouldn't know how to form a trade right?..... then who did decide that giving a 38 year old with a significant and long injury history a freaking guaranteed contract for 3 years? How many people have played at a 9 M level at the age of 40 in this league? Why no team option? Why not put Nash on the injury list so he can't play 10 games?

..... it's all his "boss" I guess.

That depends upon how hard Jim "pushed" Mitch to get the deal done. Did Mitch find clues that Nash was having health issues, told Jim, but Jim still pushed for the trade? I don't know. All I know is that there was talk about Jim Buss pushing Mitch to get the Nash trade done. If that's true, then you can't just point the finger at Mitch and claim it was his fault.

As far as the D12 trade, I think you can point the blame in his direction as well as Jim, so I wouldn't exactly call Mitch teflon.

I thought they probably rushed the deal due to the fact that the trade exception was going to expire, but the deal was made as soon as free agency started in July, & the trade exception didn't expire until December 11.. Honestly have no clue as to why they rushed the trade without doing the most basic of research like reaching out to a trainer that had worked closely with Nash for a decade & knew exactly what his physical state was.. No excuse for that.

Nobody is excusing the lack of research. But I am questioning whether Mitch should bare most of the blame for it. Especially if it was Jim pushing him to do the trade.

No one's going to take him without sticking the Lakers with a worse contract.

Lakers are not really counting on signing the max guy this summer, there is precious little available along those lines. So he'll be carried in full next season and then all his salary comes off the cap next year. Yeah the whole thing was a disaster, not much to do for it now, don't even think anyone would give the Lakers a 2nd round pick for him. So Lakers don't get rid of him without taking a worse contract. The way it really works is the Lakers would have to have a good resource to throw into the trade to get someone to take him off their hands without taking back a bad contract. Would really rather not do that.

At this point, it sucks, but the team should just eat it. Path of least resistance clears the books next summer.
I shall be telling this with a sigh

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

They might if they're also getting our lottery pick.. I could see him being packaged with our pick for Kyrie or Love. Especially if the team we're trading with really likes the player available at 6 (or wherever we end up)

Keep him around for one last year and just take that $9 million cap hit. Maybe some miracle happens and he can play be somewhat healthy and effective, best case scenario.

How can you get a "worse" contract? 9 M for someone who won't play vs a bad contract that will......

I'd take back a bad contract that can contribute something if we also get a pick. But, alas.... if rumors are to be believed we're trying to keep up with the Clippers and trade first round picks for Coaches. They get the head coach we get the assistant.....

Steve Nash - G - Lakers

The Lakers reportedly plan to keep Steve Nash on their roster next season, rather than using the 'stretch provision' to waive his $9.8 million salary.

Nash is 40 years old and he only appeared in 15 games last season due to nerve injuries which plagued his back and hamstrings. When he was healthy enough to play, he averaged only 6.8 points on 38.3 percent shooting, but L.A. seems willing to squeeze whatever production they can get out of him in 2014-15.

Very good. We should not stretch him. Take the hit next year and move on. Hopefully, we learn from our mistakes, right? No long contracts for old players.

Hopefully someone tricks him into retiring this summer. Screw the money, I just don't want to see an old man running around for us, hurting himself every other game, and limiting the development of our guys.

You watch, Nash just needed an extra year to rehab. Next season he's averaging a double double and yall are apologizing for ever doubting him :man1:

Right?

He is such a non-factor. It's pretty easy to not even think about him because of his minimal (ZERO) impact on the team.

At least he'll provide some vet leadership next season :man12: :man10:

Well, at least MDA is gone, so he won't feel an obligation to play Nash who's completely ineffective at this stage in his career...can't wait until he's gone, actually.
