Steve Nash Discussion: Retiring; Lakers Disabled Exception

This guy is a black cloud hanging over us. I'd say without him we could sign Lance, but our FO would probably just throw 9 mil at Ariza instead, they love their retreads!

I'm told the Lakers keep Nash for now. They have until September to decide whether to waive him and stretch his $9.7-mill salary over 3 yrs

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I'm happy with this ... as long as we don't expect him to play. That first rounder from the Lin trade is now a bit more valuable, and there's really no point in dumping Nash. I'd rather let him expire and be completely done with him next summer.

He can at least stay in the locker room, there is no point in seeing him try to drag his corpse of a body up and down the court.

So the plan is to keep all our money available each year just in case a max level free agent does want to come to us?

Please send the Houston 1st to Philly + Nash. I don't even care at this point. If that 9.7 million opening can get us Stephenson, give me that right now.

Might as well let him start for the 10 games he has in him before he gets hurt again. Then he can mentor Lin from the bench.

I'm not interested in overpaying Stephenson, that's what it will take to sign him.
Rather keep the pick, it's looking better now, and let Nash expire.

no way. If we can dump Nash with that Hou first we do it, period. For Lance?? No brainer. He will only get better, is worth 10 mil per each year, and can play PG, SG, and SF. Perfect compliment with Kobe, Randle, and Lin -- gritty, plays hard, hates losing, etc.

PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN. Please.

Guess we'll have to disagree as I don't think Lance is worth 10m/year.

Philly is only at 37 million in cap room, they need someone like Nash to fill the cap, but keep them terrible. I want to know the reason as to why we aren't trying to pull this?

I see no point in dumping him with the Hou pick anymore, we have no more aspirations of being good next season anyways with these moves so far.

Exactly Doc. No need to have 27 million in space next year for a weak FA class, and we all know that Kevin Love is going to Cleveland, or maybe Houston, and if not, who cares?? We have Randle now - invested in that.

We will have 18 million with Hill and Lin gone next year if we want, that is enough for Marc Gasol or Rondo, etc if we want to go that route.

Lance is well worth 10 mil per - consider his versatility to play several positions and great defense and rebound, and his grittiness to mesh wit Kobe and Randle. And then look at the money that guys like Hayward and Parsons are getting. I think Lance has a higher ceiling than them, and is worth more than Ariza by a lot.

I hope as soon as the Houston deal is final, we dump the pick (probably top 20 protected anyway) and Nash for Lance.

Better not do it and then sign Ariza.... :bang:

Lin, Mo Williams or Sessions for TPE?, Marshall
Lance, Bazemore, Clarkson
Kobe, Swaggy, Wes (we need some size here)
Randle, Kelly, E. Clark
Hill, Udoh (RE), Sacre

Kobe and Hill stay healthy, could make the playoffs (over Memphis or Dallas). Fun bench mob to watch. Good young pieces with possibly high ceilings (Lance, Randle, Kelly, Udoh). Cap room next year with some assets on decent contracts. OK by me.

even if you dump Nash, with Young and Hill contract you don't even have enough to offer him anything more significant than what he's already gotten from Indy and on top of that it sounds like our mgmt. wont even give anything more than 2 yr contracts if you're not a mega-star lvl player like Melo or James. There's no chance in hell Lance takes any stupid 2yr offers.

Offer Lance 3 or 4 years at 10 mil per, with player option?

With Bron back in the division, I bet that Indy ups its offer to Lance anyway.

I just hope we don't dump Nash then offer 9 million to Ariza.

We haven't renounced Bazemore yet, or finalized Randle, why? Still have a deal to make?

Come on, I know you're fed up with Nash, but a first rounder is a valuable asset that we pretty much never have. You'd really use it to get rid of Nash even if we don't use the resulting cap space on anyone worthwhile?

Only if we use it on Stephenson. Of course I don't want them to do it, just to do it. I'll take Stephenson over the 1st rounder all day.

Nash is a 1st ballot HoF player and I think the Lakers won't stretch or trade him unless it's for a franchise player. It's a respect thing.

Not saying I agree, but I do think that's the case and we aren't stretching Nash to sign Stephenson even though I'd like to.

then agree to a low amt buyout and sign with a contender....Nash would be doing us and himself a favor

**UPDATED NBA NEWS** Lakers are actively trying to unload Steve Nash some nibbles in last 24 hours..

I know it's not a legit source. But with the news we've been linked to Ariza/Deng, I think this news might be somewhat credible.

Would be awesome if we could pull it off and still nab Stephenson.

I would fully support this. In fact, if we add Stephenson I'd be quite happy with the offseason. Rebuilding with Lin, Stephenson, Young and Randle sounds quite promising.

How do we get rid of Nash without taking back salary? Someone help me out?

If we still could get Stephenson...that'd make this offseason a success, to me at least.

^^^ We could send him to Philly, who has to reach the minimum salary threshold, with some 2nd round picks in exchange for nothing.

It makes sense for both sides. Philly wants to be terrible without paying anybody and we would like to get rid of Nash for nothing in exchange.

Getting Nash would require S&T - but isn't Stephenson RFA? If so, what are the complications? BTW, I just read an article this morning saying we're not one of the teams that has "serious" interest in Stephenson. I'd love to get him though. Love it, love it, love it. I'd like to offer to Okafor and Nazr Mohammed or Patric Young for a big or two. And there are guys we could add for depth.

Lin/Marshall/Kane?
Stephenson/Clarkson
Kobe/N. Young
Randle/Kelly/P. Young
Hill/Okafor/Mohammed

I know people aren't thrilled about Hill at 5, but that roster would give us options at basically every position.

Shooting: Lin, Kobe, Young, Kelly, Hill
Defense: Lin, Stephenson, Kobe, Hill, Okafor
Athletes: Stephenson, Clarkson, Kobe, Randle, Hill

Good mix of vets and tantalizing talent.
