NBA approves injury exception

Postby Alcindor on Wed Jan 30, 2013 5:26 pm

The NBA has approved the Los Angeles Lakers' request for an injury exception following the season-ending surgery undergone by Jordan Hill.

The Lakers will have $1.78 million to use to sign a player or in a trade.

Now who do we use it on if at all?

I wouldn't mind using it on West, KMart, or TWill when he returns from China.

So we're still paying Hill's salary? Did Buss/Kupchak do this for financial reasons.

We are over the salary cap and pay per dollar over. Does this negate the luxury tax on Hill's contract?

Or is this entirely separate, and in addition to Hill's contact, do we have another $1.78M to spend?

Someone explain.

it doesnt count against the cap and yes hill is still getting paid. they can only use it to sign a player for a year or trade for a player in the last year of their contract.

I love Martin's toughness and the athletic wing play of West...I think either would be an excellent pickup although West may be more of a need that K-Mart the way our front line is playing. Wouldn't mind seeing KMart getting into it with a few Heat players or Kendrick Perkins come playoff time.

With Blake back not sure they would add another guard in West. Team really needs a 2/3 wing player or another big.

I made this same post over in the "Short list of players to use the exception on" thread. Josh Harrellson comes to mind for me, he was released by Miami last month I believe. Big, strong C/PF who will hustle, rebound the hell out of it and can hit the three. Played well for MDA in NY and played good in the minutes he got for MIA early in the season, it's just that they opted for their small ball. He isn't a star by any means, but I think he could help our bench w/ Jordan Hill gone for the year and Howard's nagging injuries. I'd snatch him up in a heart beat if I were Mitch.
