Ft. Worth Star-Telegram: Karl Malone, the NBA's second-leading all-time scorer, committed Thursday to sign next week with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to his agent, Dwight Manley, who told several news sources.

The New York Times reported that Malone, who will turn 40 this month, will sign a one-year contract for the $1.5 million veteran minimum.

Malone follows veteran guard Gary Payton, a nine-time All-Star who announced Tuesday that he will sign with the Lakers. They will join Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal to give the Lakers one of the most star-studded starting lineups in NBA history.

Malone, who averaged 20.6 points per game last season, has 36,374 career points, second behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who scored 38,387.

The moves will likely put pressure on the Mavericks to upgrade their talent, probably starting with Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning.

But Donnie Nelson, the Mavericks' president of basketball operations, said there's no reason to worry about the Lakers ... 280618.htm

Yea no need to worry about Lakers not winning the ring again!!!

hahaha. Donnie Donnie Donnie. you are definately too far in over urself. it's funny how he can say there's no reason to worry about the Lakers. You have the most dominant big man, the most skilled player, and joining them are one of the best point guards in the game today and a soon to be all-time scoring leader in league history. they can all defend, score, and they're all in great shape. and don't think Kobe and Shaq won't hear about what u said.

We will not hesitate to regulate!

If he is not worried about the Lakers, then he must be the most idiotic coach on Earth.

I guess he's a masochist, since he's just asking for more hurting from the Lakers with that statement. All he is doing is motivating not only Shaq and Kobe, but also Payton and Malone with that statement.
