I want to see if it is possible to play Swaggy, Brooks and Bazemore at the same time. I don't think it will work.

You could probably lock that bench/spot starters in for 15-20 million combined. And me likey that bench. :man13:

It's also a perfect tank squad for when the FO wants to make another exciting team to wait for the 2015-2016 mythical plan.

It's a silly good bench. And we could have it by playing our cards right.

You don't necessarily need all those guys.

Farmar (creator, scorer)
Bazemore (defender)
Young ( iso scorer)
Henry (dynamic wing)
Kelly (stretch 4, shooter)
Sacre (defender)
and Kaman (scorer, shooter, post facilitator)

is an outstanding bench. Very cheap and very athletic too.

Probably not. You need a ballhandler/setup guy on the floor.

Bazemore/Young should be very good though, playing with either Marshall or Farmar. One specializes in D, but can score, and other is a natural scorer and can play both 2 and 3.

I don't know what they end amount will be but I believe Nick just wants more years on his next deal so he has some contract security.

I think Nick risk not getting the pay raise if he opts out. Yes, LA pays players and will give Kobe 92 million per year but Nick would be foolish to test that in my opinion. Of course, I do think he could get 2-3 from LA for 3 years but then his value is probably 4-5 mil. Will he take the 2-3 or try to play for a better contract on the 1.2 mill for next year.

I agree, I think its wishful thinking on my part that his next contract will pay him 2-3 million each year when I really think he'll get a deal for 3 years and will make 4-5 million each of those years.

Personally, I'd tell Nick let's meet in the middle and give you a 3 year, $10.5 million deal ($3.5 million a year). I don't know if he takes that but I'd be real happy with that.

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter 15m
Nick Young told me the team is going to hold him out for these next two road games as the left knee that kept him out 6 games remains sore.

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter 11m
Young played 20 min. on Sun., but it's still sore. Doesn't want to push the non-displaced fracture o/t patella/bone bruise diagnosed Feb. 6.

The Lakers need to force him to sit. Tell him to let his knee heal and he'll have time at the end of the year to audition again for a new pay check. No use in rushing it now.

It seems every game from now until the end of the year is going to be an audition and right now Brooks and Bazemore have the floor. Soon they'll turn to Marshall and Farmar again. Then they'll turn to Kelly and Johnson again.

It's a plan that's really conducive for failure. :man10:

How feasible is it to play X at the 3 next season?

If it is, despite my hesitations with Johnson I would bring him back at the vet min just in case we can't find anyone better at that price point. Otherwise if for some ludicrous reason Wes is looking for a raise, I'll pack his bags for him.

We need to bring back Swaggy at anything south of $3M per.

The injury & our record with him as our leading scorer may have done enough to get us the hometown discount we want.. Not panicking yet.

Young is fun to watch at times but he's not really going to be a part of our rebuilding. I hope we do not offer him a multi year contract.

The thing is that HE has a PO for next year - so it's his last year only if he decides it is. In other words, I'm taking this combined with Kobe's not listing him as someone coming back to suggest that he's leaving.

Nick is really just a nice scoring spark off the bench, nothing more. We wouldn't have too much trouble replacing that, but I really did like his DON'T DIE attitude on court. That will be missed.

I think that Nick is more than a spark off the bench. He's more a 6th man on a championship level team, IMO.

Maybe not like Ginobli or Odom who you can let close games and were fringe all stars, but still a higher level 6th man player.

you might as well say goodbye then, because he is IMO getting a multi year deal with either us or someone else.
I personally think we give him or our FO wants to give him a 2 year deal but he might want 3

Out of the 15 players on this team....there are 2 I want back for sure. Kobe and Nick Young.

Young is only a scoring spark but he showed fire and pride to wear the Lakers uniform. You are not going to win a championship without players that get fired up and Nick really did a great job leading the other scrubs. ANY SINGLE OTHER PLAYER...I won't lose any sleep to lose. They have embarassed the Lakers brand this year by either being constantly hurt, lack of hustle or lack of brain.

Sure would be nice to get Marshall for vet. min. just to make sure it was a fluke stretch for him, Farmar and X also for vet. min. and maybe Bazemore and Johnson for vet min...one penny above that and they are free to GTFO.

Kaman didn't get a fair chance, Sacre sucks, so do Nash, Brooks, Kelly. We can't keep this group together because they just aren't very good. Period.

Only love for the LA boys. Farmar and Nick compete, fight, and represent LA all day and they do it well.

I'd love for them to lead the bench together.

Any multi year deal hurts us.... And for a guy who won't be long enough to be part of our resurgence then it's even more damaging IMO

I'd only give multi year deals to young and developing players.... Not a guy like him who has definitely peaked... No matter how fun he is to watch

Well, that depends... if he is cheap enough, I think giving a 3-year deal to a 28-year old player who brings what you need and/or want can be a good thing.

He's lucky his arm is still in its socket. That was bush with Gooden. Like watching a cowboy get his arm tangled while the bull is still bucking. You know he wanted to kick him in the head afterward when Gooden was sitting but instead wound up holding back and just holding his head to talk to him. :man10:
