Nick Young Discussion: Torn Thumb Ligament, Out 8 Weeks (59)

He hasn't had a good game thus far, luckily it's still early in the season. However, just watching the way he plays you can tell why he doesn't have good games that often. His shot selection is horrid and if he's not scoring he really doesn't contribute anything else. His best fit on a team would be to come off the bench as the 7th or 8th man because he's not consistent enough to be your best guy on the bench.

Through three games, Nick Young is shooting 6 for 22 (27 percent) with one assist in 60 minutes.

If he keeps this up, we'll have to call him Nick Old.

Problem with Nick is he does nothing outside of scoring. And when it comes to scoring he's just inefficient.

Nick Young is exactly what I expected him to be.

He will have hot games here and there but overall he is pretty useless as a starter, thats why he is on the Lakers for pretty much the minimum salary.

Nice pic, but considering it's Nick Young, I think the question is whether Swaggy P is having an educational telepathic moment with Kobe, or is he looking into the stands at a popcorn vendor.

i dont understand why hes so contempt on shooting contested J's, i mean if you're on fire thats one thing, but to have basically your first 2 shots being contested J's of the game?

what is he thinking? and who remember that fast break where he just pulled up instead of finishing at the rim and missed it, what a waste of 24 seconds.

right now i dont htink he knows whens the time to hit a transition 3 and when not to, because clearly hes pulling up at all the wrong moments.

Starting lineup is still awful with Nash/Blake/Williams in there.

I think we'll see him having a few nice plays still. He's just off and now he's pushing it. I predict probably 15 points tonight in a strong effort off the bench.

It's about time for one of his 30 point efforts.... just enough to keep him in the "potential" category..... :man10:

So far he's been worse than I expected... and I didn't have that hight of expectations. He really doesn't get the ball motion on offense or the off the ball action needed to keep from hanging the PG out to dry. Part of the reason Nash and Blake look so bad is because they are trying to run a pick and roll while Swaggy is not clearing the area so there is an extra man just standing there.

Again, he's got talent but that alone isn't what makes a player valuable in this league. We have two of them on this team in Young and Johnson. Not sure any team can overcome that.... :man10:

I just don't see Nick Young as the first player off the bench for us...That should be Meeks, then Kaman, then Blake, THEN Young. He is a one dimensional player (scoring) who is shooting under 30% and scoring less than 5 buckets a game...total garbage at this point.

My regular season player value rankings so far:

1. Pau Gasol
2. Jordan Hill
3. Xavier Henry
4. Jordan Farmar
5. Jodie Meeks
6. Chris Kaman
7. Wesley Johnson
8. Steve Blake
9. Nick Young
10. Sean Williams
11. Steve Nash
12. Robert Sacre
13. Elias Harris
14. Ryan Kelly
15. Kobe Bryant

I believe that Harris, Kelly and Sacre could be more valuable for us if they got as many minutes as Nash, but since they aren't and won't he is ahead of them...Kobe is an unknown quantity right now, so he is obviously not of any value completely out and unable to contribute or even practice. I will update this as the season goes on.
The End is nigh. Time for a total Cut and Shuffle. Kobe contract was a mistake...time to avoid making more. The future is here, whether we want it to be or not. An era is over, but for the death rattle, and it's time for the cycle to begin anew. Growth and change are scary and painful, but alas...nothing worth achieving comes easily.

I admit I had high hopes for Nick Young - and still do. BUT he has been a huge disappointment so far in this short Regular Season. He REALLY needs to step up his game and find his niche in this team.

Perhaps being benched will take some pressure off him and allow him to come in and make an impact as a scorer. I am really hoping so.

Same here, and would it KILL Antoni to TRY Elias Harris or Ryan Kelly in place of Shawne Williams as a stretch 4??? Williams has been a train wreck thus far, even on the defensive end, and we've GOT to get more value from our small ball line-ups, since our boneheaded coach INSISTS on sticking with a losing formula.
