Drew has mental toughness. He WANTS to be in the closing lineup. I'm sure we'll never have to worry too much about him in that regard.

What happened to Kobe taking one or two dribbles then pulling for the J, postin up people ? Way too much overdribbling .

Mike Brown was talking about getting him the ball in his sweet spots , I didn't see that at all.
Same for Pau , he was as much outside the paint as on the low block.

The offense will have to get a LOT better ... the D in the 2nd half was very solid but the Bulls are a very predictable team offensively with little firepower outside Rose.

Another WMC, other forums lack the knowledge possessed by most of CL's members making it tough to have a legit discussion with anyone outside of these boards. We seriously have the highest BBIQ of any board out there. The amount of stupid I've been running into over at RGM is appalling. At least the Laker board there is pretty savvy.

I could see the game, started 11PM in Europe and needed some sleep.

Pau's number were not impressive but how did he look during the game. Was he the same Pau we had during the Playoffs or is he back to his normal self ?

closer to the playoffs imo

not a complete joke, he had his moments, but his stat line today speaks for itself

2-6 on his free throws ended up being the difference. he's better than that

he really annoyed me today

btw 14 points from Pau just doesn't cut the mustard with Drew out...he also missed many FTs. But this is the playoffs Pau right here and he needs to disappear asap.

He had once fantastic decisive move with the dunk on Noah...he needs more of that. He looks tentative out there. He was barely ever in the paint, hovering around the elbow area.

it seems like its years since Pau had a 20 point game...wth.

Maybe I am being picky but one thing is annoying with when I read the articles on various sites.

''Lakers are no longer a finesse team'' or ''Lakers are rugged and tougher''.

I know we messed around last year but that does a complete disservice to Phil Jackson, who whatever anyones beef with him, always had his team ready to battle against any style when it mattered ( for the most part ). Alot of these columnists and reporters are talking like we have been playing like some punk team these past few years.

As for Pau Yes, he missed 2 really crucial free throws ( and all of his other 4th quarter shots ) but overall he played a pretty good game on both ends.

The foul on Deng for the 3-point play was terrible though but the no worse than Kobe's mess ups down the stretch either. Our vet leaders have to be better than what they were last night if we are to be competitive against quality clubs all season long and into the postseason.

^we got Kobe bro, we will be fine.....he will do whatever it takes for this franchise to move in the right direction.

I just hope people really realize how special this young man is. With Kobe its not just that he is an awesome player but he keeps the entire franchise on their heels with a fierce competitive spirit that will probably never exist again.

Fans need to have faith. Even if its a tough year, the Lakers will be back at the top. They always do, its like a rule of nature. Its like bread and butter, it just belongs together.

Just remember we have won 10 Championships in the Buss era (30 years). We have been to every second NBA Finals since this league exists.

I think it's a mixture of factors. Pau seemed to get lost in the shuffle a bit in this new offense. The offense is chaotic right now. It's like a bastard child between the Triangle and whatever it was that Brown ran up in Cleveland. Most of these guys are not used to running a scripted offense.

It has a couple of fundamental principles...a few "attempted" pick and rolls out of a standard set and some inside out ball to get open looks. Fine. But Pau's playing center in this offense....what the hell is doing up at the top of the key? Someone want to explain that to me?

Throw in Pau's "analysis paralysis" when he get the ball, and he's making stuff just plain harder on himself.

Making Pau into a perimeter player is not the way to get him his mojo back. Basically he needs to be way more involved in the offense than he was last night. If he's on the floor and it's not an endgame situation, he needs to get a touch at least.

thats my problem too...seems like Brown is trying to imitate that typical LeBron-Ziggy play where LeBron got the attention and kicked it out to Ziggy for a long deuce.

Pau is way more talented and ubiquitous compared to Ilgauskas and also faster at running the floor up and down...also Ziggys spot is too far out for Pau. If anything Murphy is the right guy for that particular play.

If Pau wants midrange shots, he needs to shoot 12-15 footers and Brown has to make sure he has plays to get the ball to Pau so that he can either shoot that 15 footer or beat his defender off the dribble...and he should never take a shot beyond 18 feet.

I think Brown so far has failed at utilizing Pau...but maybe they counted on him being traded and didn't really spend too much time thinking about his role.

Postby puffyusaf#2 on Mon Dec 26, 2011 11:02 am

Well here we are again. It seemed like only yesterday we were bumping the WMC. That is because we played yesterday as a gift to all the Lakers fans in the world. Unfortunately, what looked like a mighty great Christmas turned to be a Grinch-style Christmas as the reigning MVP dribbled right into the middle of the paint and tear dropped the Lakers on our home court. Nope, no undefeated season. No running the table. No 5-way MVP with Kobe, Pau, Drew, Murphy and Coach Brown. OK that was a bit of smartness but you get the point. The Lakers were promising yesterday but failed when it mattered at the free throw line. There’s a lot to take from the game as our shooting has looked better than years past. Our two most recent additions looked great on the offensive and defensive boards and our young guys seem fearless. Yes this, as least for me, was all positives to take away from this crappy loss.

Well, the guys don’t have to wait long to redeem themselves as we travel to cowtown USA in Sacramento. It doesn’t matter the year, the players or the stakes every game against the LA Lakers is a playoff game to the Kings. So the questions for this game are many. How will the Lakers respond to giving away game 1? How will Coach Brown make the team accountable for their actions? Can we hit a damn free throw when it counts? Will the Lakers be in there to make statement without the Big Fella? Will we see any bit of Barnes today or will it be a MWP show? Will Blake continue his improved shooting and can Murphy and McRoberts pull down 16 rebounds again? Will Kobe give us 6+ dimes again and cut down on those 8 turnovers? All these questions and more will be answered because ………………………..

IT’S GAME TIME BABY: Lets get that W :jam2:
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

b2b on the road, no Drew, Kobe with potentially more wrist complications, and the Queens are always amped to play us.

We could be in for a long night.

^^That along with the fact that we always seem to have trouble with quick, athletic teams regardless of the other circumstances.

+ the fact that most young guys struggle on the road rather than at home...so bench production etc. will be crucial but hard to get on the road. We will see how McRambis, Ebanks, G-Lock etc. react to the pressure.

We should be able to beat this Sacramento team tonight. They lack cohesiveness and do a lot of 1 on 1 play. Just rebound better, dont give up 3s and we should get outta there with a W

my belief is that with young teams (i.e. the kings), if you can get after them defensively and make them work for each shot, they eventually start taking forced shots or shots outside of their comfort zone.

if we can keep up the defensive intensity we witnessed yesterday, we should be okay.

nevertheless, arco is always a tough spot to play. i think we'll limit the turnovers (especially kobe) and win this by about 8 points.
