Jordan Hill alluded to it and now Pau is saying it....our guard play on defense is hideous..ie Meeks, Marshall.

Its either turnstile defense allowing opposing guard penetration or not boxing out and securing the defensive board when shots go up from the perimeter. I'm sure our frontline is tired of it. Pau has been horrendous on defense too, but with his age and injuries, I would be questioning 20 somethings that are launching all types of shots on the offensive end and giving a ho-hum effort on defense, often times making the frontline look bad after they place them in a tough spot.

And we know its guard play, cause the guys that are coming back are both guards in Blake and Farmar.

If Pau's on his way out, I want him to go black swan on our trash offense and our directionless FO. Get em big fella!

This is comedic. Pau doesn't give a **** about defense and doesn't even try.

The things people say about Marshall will never cease to amaze me - as if Farmar and Blake returning would matter defensively.

Farmar has the best +/- rating amongst Laker guards.
The guy we traded to the Warriors had the best W-L percentage amongst Laker guards
But, boy can Marshall toss them dimes...

And fans be like :man13:

Now that's comedy...

@LakersReporter: Re-signing Pau Gasol is "absolutely" an option, says Kupchak. Will depend on many things (other players, $) as he's previously stated.

If we re-sign Pau next season and don't fire 'Antoni, I'm not sure I will be able to bring myself to watch games.

I can't believe we are actually entertaining this as an option. The FO will be taking steps backwards if they bring Pau back. So disappointing. :bang:

then he gets quoted saying that it will take at least 2 years to re-build and that we most likely won't spend our cap money this offseason…..

So, two things here…… which is it? Why sign Pau if it would take more than two years? Especially when he is on the trajectory he's on. In two years he'll be like Sacre.

Second and most importantly….. why would Pau resign if it's going to take beyond his "window" to re-build?

Pau is a bad defender but doesn't really take away the fact that Meeks and Marshall are TERRIBLE.

I want to know whether you're being serious right now.

+/-
Farmar +9.7
Marshall +3.1
Blake -1.7

ORtg-DRtg
Marshall 112-113 = -1
Blake 102-110 = -8
Farmar 99-110 = -11

On/Off
Marshall On: Lakers score 106.9 on .521 eFG%; opponents score 112.1 on .501 (-5.2)
Marshall Off: Lakers score 101.4 on .486; opponents score 107.6 on .495 (-6.3)

Blake On: Lakers score 101.6 on .491 eFG%; opponents score 108.1 on .496 (-6.5)
Blake Off: Lakers score 104.1 on .501; opponents score 109.5 on .498 (-5.4)

Farmar On: Lakers score 104.6 on .511 eFG%; opponents score 104.7 on .478 (-0.1)
Farmar Off: Lakers score 102.9 on .494; opponents score 110.1 on .502 (-7.2)

Win%
Lakers are 12-15 when Blake starts
Lakers are 1-4 when Farmar starts
Lakers are 3-14 when Marshall starts

Here's a crazy thought: Marshall is better than Blake and Farmar. Farmar starts almost no games, and he leads a second unit that's better than other second units. Marshall leads a starting team that sucks.

A plan, I'm not sure the Lakers front office really has one, or that they'd all agree on what it is if you asked them separately. If the plan is to continue to rebuild over years, I don't see the point of giving Kobe 2 years 48 mil. Putting butts in the seats by distracting us with Kobe like 2005-2007, giving TWC a star on the team, lifetime achievement award contract, that's all I got.

I think they plan to sign a FA in 2015 or 2016. Don't be surprised if we have "another wasted year" as Kobe likes to call it.

Well if they are going to do that, they better put a crappy enough team out there that gets us a top 5 pick. We get our 2015 1st rounder from PHX back if suck and suck bad.

I think the plan is more like-
This summer draft well and add a good player in FA (a 3rd best player of a Championship team)
Next summer sign Love if you can.
Next summer swing for Durant or maybe Irving or something like that.

But yes, it's going to be 2-3 years before we're making a ton of noise again. Next season will be what this season was supposed to be: sneak into the 8th seed and get our butts kicked.

We will have another wasted year for sure, except when it comes to developing young talent + new draft pick. But if we suck again, we get our pick back, which might be a plus. Other then that, it's what real said.

The problem was no one was trading first round picks for anything, period. If a first rounder had been offered a think Pau would have been gone. It wasn't though so he stays. Next season we have to win or be so awful we land in the bottom 5 because otherwise we don't have a draft pick. That being the case I could see us bringing Pau back, as he and Kobe are tight and he can help us win next season. I just hope he takes a serious discount to stay in LA...or if he were smart take a 1 year deal next year so he can't be traded! If we end up losing him for nothing this summer...what a kick in the teeth. He was traded for Chris Paul for crying out loud and now he might walk for nothing!? Unbelievable.

The Laker FO keeps trying to have it both ways, and it keeps biting them in the posterior They keep trying to graft MDA's style onto a foundation (Kobe, Pau, Hill, Kaman) the best players of which are antithetical to that style.
To what end?

They already lost Dwight, partly because they refused to admit that MDA is a complete disaster. They will now lose Pau for nothing, too. Once they committed to MDA, the FO should have traded Pau last year. But the only reason they hung onto him was because Dwight bailed. AGain, the moves are all reactive. There doesn't seem to be any proactive vision behind the scenes. Now there are whispers that they may want Pau back next season. How palatable would that be for Pau, knowing that he's been trade bait for going on four season? It's a disaster all around, and it starts at the top.
