Pau Gasol deserves better. He brought two championships to the Lakers, most likely 2 more than No D toni will ever win.

And hopefully we realized that while he's not the 2008-2010 guy anymore, he can still be a very effective player in the NBA given the right situation.

Pau in San Antonio would be insane. Pau in Chicago would be a great fit. Dallas would be interesting with Pau as well.

I don't know where he ends up but I hope we fire this clown of a coach, get a top 4 pick, bring back the crew and go for it while healthy.

The question is this..... 7 million a year for how long..... 4 years would be my guess based on past signings.

Second and most important..... Why re-sign Pau for any price? We need youth and developing players not 50-60 game a year vets who belong on contenders. I love what he did for us but the time has come to let go of the past.

uh what
that's like saying $500 for a high end diamond is too much

what pau gasol does on the court is still worth 10 mil/yr at least
to say he is worth less than 7 mil on the market is absurd

He's not worth 10M to us because we're a terrible defensive team that should have no offensive problems if Kobe returns healthy. To a team with a solid defensive foundation in need of a big that can give them 17/9, he's definitely still worth something in that neighborhood. Not to steal your example from the other thread but if the Bulls amnesty Boozer & strike out on Melo, Pau would be worth near 10M to them.

Sounds like the Lakers still aren't decided whether they want to rebuild or retool for a (pseudo) early exit team in the playoffs ...

The longer they will hesitate , the longer we will be stucked in mediocrity ...

It makes absolutely ZERO sense to keep Gasol

I think they give him a two year deal like Kobe...first to appease Kobe, then to have flexibility in 2016. Forget about any other FAs this offseason. They'll sign Gasol and have enough for Love next year.

Still makes little sense ... it's time to rebuild and find new young players ... living in the past with Kobe and Gasol will only slow this process down

1. kobe tore his achilles
2. that's a pretty big "if"
3. you need more than pau gasol to play alongside kobe. i mean, even when it was kobe+pau, we couldn't have done it without lamar and bynum and ariza. to say your offense is going to be fine as long as kobe comes back and we can just ditch pau is a major miscalculation imo.

Should have mentioned it I guess but I'm assuming we keep Swaggy & quite a few of our other role players.. If that's the case & Kobe is still Kobe, our offense will be just fine.

offense will be fine as long as swaggy and some other role players are there?

oh god dude are you joking me

to expect any of the guys like young, hill, meeks, farmar, kelly, and wes johnson to compete at the next level as starters to play alongside kobe in a quest to contend for a championship is setting yourself up for some serious disappointment. kobe would rather chuck an off-balance 30 footer against a double team than pass to any of them.

2 questions

1.) Why would we tie up 40 million (Pau at 7 million) on 3 players (Kobe, Nash) that will FOR SURE not play all 82?

2.) Why would we further invest more money (Pau multi-year deal) for a player that is already breaking down NOW?

For me, it makes zero sense to tie up a large portion of our cap on players that are at retirement (Nash) or 2-3 years from it (Kobe,Pau)

This isn't 2008 anymore, we need to get past the "names" and start evaluating these players on the game they have.

1. you're not going to get pau for 7 million
2. if you did get pau for 7 million it'd be an excellent value deal no matter how you analyze it. offers from other teams will start at the 12milx3years range. you can't get cheap talent for 7 million to fill what pau does unless you drafted him and that rookie's contract will be extended, and there's no way in hell a team would trade that kind of asset esp to the lakers.

Only deal I'd give Pau would be 2 years, $16-18m total but only the first year guaranteed, 2nd year is team option, maybe with a $2m buyout clause. That gets the Lakers through this coming year and still sets them up for next year. If someone else gives Pau 2 years guaranteed or even 3 years, I'd say sayonara, thanks for the 2008-10 run.

Have to remember most teams won't have enough cap to give Pau more money per year and why would they do that for multiple years?

But if MDA remains as coach as seems possible at this time, then Pau is definitely gone. Phil Jackson may like Pau a lot, but there's no cap there to sign Pau to a decent contract. Think Dallas, SA, Minny and Memphis could be potential landing spots for him.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
