I agree, the Pau ship sailed long ago.

He should be a distant, great memory now and nothing else.

Pau is still greater than 80% of the league's big men, even as bad as he has regressed the last 2-3 years.
Every time I begin to ask, "Is he really as great as I think he is?" ...He proves that he is.
Every time I begin to wonder...He proves it...That is why I won't lose hope in him.
You know who I am talking about.

^He's also 34 years old. And he likely won't come here for a reasonable price. It's time to move on.

and worse than 80% of the league's big men defensively ...

Numbers do lie in Pau case ... even offensively he's done for a while making a superior impact on a good team ... we witnessed it in the 11 and 12 postseasons .

I wouldn't re- sign Pau for one season for the veteran minimum.... it is time to move on and was since May 8th 2011

Pau has declined considerably, but he still has value at the right price.

If he takes a cheap contract with short years (no more than 2) while accepting a lesser role, then I'd consider that "moving on". Vince Carter did it with the Mavs. I can't see why Pau can't do it if he's up to it.

Unfortunately, I've heard nothing from Pau that indicates that he acknowledges his decline as a player. So I'm not optimistic.

That's the thing ... He still wants a key role on his team ...

He's a 15-20 min player on a contender ... something our team isn't and probably won't be for quite some time

No more Pau.

Pau would just take cap space away from a player that would play defense and wasn't pillow soft. We need to move on.

Pau is in denial.

He´s on a PR mission now that he´s back in Spain, "i would love to play for this team, that team, i want to play for a contender bla bla bla", free agency is going to be a reality check for him.

He recently said he would love to play with Memphis, his reasons were that he loves the city, it´s a good team, his brother is there and would love to play alongside him...

And now Marc has just said he enjoys playing with Zach Randolph, that they have a great communication and understanding of the game and that it would be hard for Pau to be a bench player.

Boom.

Detroit is looking to unload J Smoove...you think we could swing Pau for Josh Smith + 8th pick in this year's draft? Obviously Josh Smith would kill some of that cap space, but we would still have room to sign one more guy I believe...and have the 6th and 8th picks in the draft...and still have MLE to use...Detroit would do it to free more cap space to re-sign Monroe or sign other players and clear the logjam they had at the 3, 4 and 5 spot with Smith, Monroe AND Drummond all there.

Smith is not worth sabotaging our cap space for years to come. Eye on the Prize aka Love and Durant

Depends if they'd pull the trigger on it before the draft lottery. If we can also have Detroit's ping pong balls our odds of getting in the top 3 become much better. Smoove only makes 14M & wouldn't stop us from being able to offer a max contract next season. He would kill the Kevin Love pipe dream because they play the same position but we could pair him with Marc Gasol & have 1 of the best defensive frontcourts in the league. Also, I doubt Detroit would want Pau in S&T, as the reason for parting with Smith is freeing up the frontcourt for Monroe & Drummond to get almost all of the minutes.. They'd be more likely to want a solid backup like Jordan Hill.

If we pulled off that trade & Detroit's pick ends up in the top 3, or we are able to package the 6 & 8 to move up into the top 3 & get Wiggins or Parker, this deal is a win for us despite taking on Smoove's contract. Detroit's pick ending up in the top 3 is the dream scenario though.. Get Wiggins or Parker & then have Exum fall to us at 7 or take Smart :freak2:

Josh Smith!?…. wow…. Probably the most overrated player in the league.

I'd rather sign Smush or Kwame…. at least we'd get consistent effort to go along with the crap results.

Bringing in Kwame at the minimum would be an infinitely better personnel move than trading for Josh Smith.

Wonder if the dramatic shake up in Memphis will give us more leverage with Pau.

Josh Smith to the Lakers?

Didn't we just have this discussion about Boozer to the Lakers?

How many more drinks do we need to put down?
I shall be telling this with a sigh

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

What about a swap of Z-Bo for Pau if Memphis is interested? I love Z-Bo's game. He's not a youngster any more but he'd make a nice companion for Kobe over the next couple/few years. He's a beast in the post. He's kind of like Melo-lite. He doesn't dominate the ball as much but he's great down there in the lane. Neither one is really a defensive player of course. But it could be a way to get some value for Pau if all parties were into it.

Now after losing the chance at Embiid, Pau still has a shot at remaining a Laker. Dude has a zillion lives. :man2:

^^for what? A year of feeling good?

His value is declining….. every year. This team needs to be rebuilt not "maintained". The odds are double lottery level that we every put a relevant team on the court again in his remaining productive starter window.

Take the money and go find someone on the upside who can develop.
