^Pau cannot control the paint. I don't want to see an old and even softer gimpy Gasol get owned in "big" games by scrub bigs that come to play.

KEVIN DING ‏@KevinDing 57s

Bear in mind: With Dwight leaving, Lakers' plan -- assuming nothing changes -- was to amnesty Metta and keep Pau.

I know he's our only big, but man I hope this isn't true, not ANOTHER season of old, worn down Pau.

I don't know.. Maybe they are thinking about 2014 and don't want to take any contracts, so they can't find a good deal for Pau. Teams that are looking for big expirings usually are looking to dump contracts.
They could just roll with Pau this season (paying him 19M and paying taxes btw...) and let his deal expire, and then take advantage of the cap space

Oh definitely, he just became at worst our 2nd best player while Kobe is out. If he still believes he's a star, and should be used as such, well, here's the opportunity.

Now we just need to put up billboards so he re-signs after this year.
In the real world, the day Steph awoke at 9 a.m. to begin his Ustream show, Kobe Bryant probably awoke at the same time, even if it was 6 a.m. in California, and lifted weights.

His brother (@AdriaGasol) tweeted something like "yeeeaah Houston, good riddanceeee" and then deleted it. I'm thinking he didn't like Dwight :man10:

the only glimmer of hope for pau is...the mental burden of having to play behind big men ahead of him (bynum or dcoward) is removed. with kobe hobbled, he is our only hope. may desperation create opportunity...

IF we are set on keeping Pau, I want nothing more than to see him get back to close to what he was. This IS his first offseason of rest in some time, so there's always a chance he can come in with some fire with Kobe out and he and Nash can at least make us look respectable out there. We're not winning ish, but we don't have to look like garbage at least. Personally, I'd still trade him and Nash and start over though.

I have said before and I'll say again: I trust Pau more than I did Dwight. Pau has played pretty blah the last two seasons but I think he will bounce back (if we keep him). The guy is too skilled to be limited like he has been. Kobe's going to rally these guys. Maybe wishful thinking but I believe in the guys who brought us rings not a guy who doesn't believe he can carry the load of a great franchise on his shoulders.

I love this. I agree 100%. Pau can definitely have a "Tim Duncan" type year. He's not done by any means. 33 years old tomorrow but I think he still has a ton of game left and now that he's the primary post option, I'm glad we still have him. He can be effective....we still need to get a bunch of shooters to surround Gasol/Kobe.

I'm sorry, I don't have faith in Pau as a guy that can carry us anymore, or even be a consistent enough #2 to win anything of note, but I'll always love the guy and appreciate the titles he brought us. I appreciate him even more now after seeing Dwight bolt while Pau stuck around for the challenge, brought that fire that Kobe challenged him to. If we have him this whole season and he struggles, it's gonna be rough to watch, but I'm not going to hate on the guy, he can only do what his body allows at this point. As said, at least he WANTS to be here (even beyond this season he's said) and knows what it means to be a Laker. Even after he was traded for Chris Paul and then had to awkwardly come back he just played and didn't say a word about it, or force his way out like Odom apparently did. Love that Kobe posted that picture though, because even though we're in for some rough times ahead, we have those memories of winning thanks to those 2, and now I don't have to root for a chump I can't stand in Dwight Howard.

I hate how's he played for us these past three years whether its his decline, injury, or whatever. Like everyone I called for his trade many of times but I do appreciate his love of being and a laker, even a guy like Metta. These guys at least contributed to titles and proud to be Lakers. Guys like Howard make you appreciate these guys a bit more.
