Pau said he's been struggling with that respiratory infection. I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt but I think we've all heard similar excuses one too many times...

^ nah. What we're seeing on the floor isn't the product of being uncomfortable.
It's just an unathletic player who isn't mentally engaged in games enough to take advantage of his skills and who continues to underachieve (since 2011).

he seems to always have some sort of "excuse" for his horrible play.....hope he retires after this season as a laker, if not he shouldn't be anything more than a backup making 3mill or less going forward.

I would like to keep him around for a 10 mio. (total) for 3 years...

other than that, he is done as a star.

As long as Kobe is here, there is no way his 'hermano' will be taking a back seat.
Once he comes back, i'm expecting more and more 'black swan' motivational bs

Pau should go, preferably at the deadline or this bromance will prevent our rebuilding again and again.

If Kobe and Phil together were not able to motivate him.... then it's hopeless.

I dont think it is motivation. In his mind he still thinks he can play. I think he is physically not capable of playing at an all-star level anymore. I remembered Phil pounding on his chest...

I'm pretty tired of the excuses, respiratory infection, didn't play basketball this summer so he's not in game shape, whatever. After 3 years the excuses run out, he's just old and not what he was.

It's the lack of effort that drives me insane.. He's a smart enough player to average a double double without trying just by being in the right place at the right time & that's exactly what he's doing.. With the exceptions of his defense vs. Howard & some against Love in the last game, he just seems to stand around waiting for the ball to fall into his hands.. He won't even bend over to grab a loose ball.. He just looks at them..

guy is not physical or hungry enough to get his big 7foot butt in the paint and go to work. he wants the easy way out and hasn't wanted to bleed for another championship since we got #2. he is content and lazy now. time to move on.

Pau Gasol that "some issues" during training camp slowed the Lakers' development -- presumably referring to injuries and an exhausting eight-day trip to China -- but did not think D'Antoni's revolving door of rotations has done the team any favors since then.

"We have to figure out our identity and how we want to play and be consistent with it," Gasol said. "Stick with it, hopefully it works and we stick with it more because when things don't work is when you start wondering and maybe I should go this way, I should go the other way. You can't second-guess yourself.

"You got to make up your mind now and go with what you think is best and stick with it and work from it and build on what we have. Otherwise, if we continue to go back-and-forth, back-and-forth, we're never really going to establish it and develop it at the full potential. That's something that the coaching staff also needs to be aware of."

While I agree with Pau that the lineup swapping needs to stop, it's also his fault for not doing his part. We wouldn't be swapping lineups, if he didn't look like absolute crap every night and the starters didn't get mauled at the start of games.

Yep. We wouldn't need to shuffle so much if Gasol wasn't a piece of crap out there and undeserving of minutes.

Eh, reality check... the guy is shooting at 36 FG%. He's no longer an all star or anywhere near that. The only real role he can fill now is as the 3rd best big in a rotation, off the bench... he's a 6-8 mil per year guy now, at best.

After seeing how he's playing I don't want him back unless it's for real cheap. I'm talking 5-7M range.

I don't want him back even if he's paying the Lakers and all the fans money to play. I want him gone. He's been a bust the past 3 years. Time to cut bait. We will not win with him playing for us. This isn't Back to the Future!

Pau looks worse than ever. He isn't toned at all and hasn't been training you can tell.. he let hairlip Davis out play him..

Either bench him or make him play 48 mins a game until he dies.

Yeah ... he's getting outplayed and is taking minutes away from Hill and Kaman who both would be "1st big off the bench" material on a contender team ... if you want to build a contender team within the next 2-4 years , you don't keep him regardless of the price

some fans are apparently willing to give Pau not 3 , not 4 , not 5 but 6 chances to redeem himself :man10:

Especially with the new cba you just don't give out 5-8mil to a washed up bigman who can't make a difference on D, is afraid to battle down low and shoots below 40%.

I'd give him the Bi-Annual exemption after I renounced his rights and signed the 8-9 quality players that can actually contribute.

imagine how apathetic Pau would be after being officially demoted to role player (and btw i don't see him having any valuable role, not even off the bench)
