Mostly the first half when he was going to the paint more often and finished with 8-11. Ended the night with 11-19 or something like that and in the second half he settled for jumpers.

But yeah, awesome first quarter and good game overall.

Goes to show that granted, his age is a major inhibitor, but most of it is what's lacking between the ears, between the legs, and behind the ribs.

I think the "pledge" had more to do with it.

Well yea the pledge did motivate him to score points and to put in effort. However, you need to admit practicing kobe with him pushing you, taking his advice on footwork and fundamentals must've had an impact on gasol and young. I envision kobe had a say on who to pursue this offseason and perhaps Henry, Johnson, and Young joined due to Kobe's influence (and obviously to fill in the void left by his injury, even though we still had Meeks and this was a losing season). Those young guys are being mentored by kobe and now that they can practice with him I'd say their defense and offense will improve - to what degree is anybody's guess.

Gasol was also rusty so he's bound to get back to his old self but having the ability to physically practice with kobe does make an impact on him. Yes the pledge motivated him, but I believe kobe has a major impact on players - those who are WILLING to listen and have an aggressive competitive nature. Gasol's moves he did last night was ala championship year moves. Perhaps kobe gave him tips on his footwork and to get rid of his rust.

What I saw that was dramatically different from recent play was his quickness and decisiveness. He make quick post moves and went to the basket a few times.

Here's the biggest difference however......4 Days rest.... do it like this for 3 games in 5 nights and I'll be ready to say he's serviceable again.

^ he had an entire offseason of rest. Resting makes a player rusty so I don't think the 4 days of rest helped, however the 4 days of practice most likely contributed to his efficiency last night.

This great performance was because of the pledge, it's pretty obvious. I'm not sure since I don't know the guy but I believe he just lacks motivation. I mean he's playing for a team that always want's to trade him. He's had problems with the coaches in the past. I don't know what has to happen for him to get that motivation back while playing with the Lakers but 2012 Olympics shows that he can still get it done out there. I just hope that he finds it soon.

If your theory is correct he should stay this active. He's always known how to do what he did last night.... the last 3 years he's lacked the physical ability to do it on most nights. It seems to be that rest is what allowed him to be that quick and want to attack. We'll see....

It was crazy to see Pau shaking and baking in the post with 3 fakes and up and under scores.

That was a taste of what he used to do every single game. If he does that and gets blocked and physically dominated, then so be it. But that is where Pau made his hay. His elbow jumpers are just icing on the cake. I will say, as much as everyone hates him taking those shots - IF (big if) he actually is hitting those, LA becomes a very hard team to stop.

Maybe he's feeling better - Maybe his stroke is getting back to normal, maybe he's motivated by something we don't know about. But he looked genuinely good last night.

It could be rest, three days of practice, Kobe returning on the horizon and listing his pilot lite, Marc getting hurt, or donating for a cause. With Pau it's never really simple A=B

Turned in a second really solid game in a row.

What if Pau played like this all the time? We'd have probably won a few more games, that's what.

Defensively I don't know if he just doesn't have it anymore, or if he has to conserve energy somewhere, but he's not great there, and maybe we just have to accept that now. Offensively though, the last 2 games are how I want to see him play. Actually backing guys down and fighting to get to the rim multiple times, shooting right and left hooks close to the hoop, that's the Pau that was around when we won titles.

over the last few seasons, he's gotten more indecisive, and that's due to his continually deteriorating athleticism. still really hoping someone makes us an offer for him or match can move his expiring for something valuable.

No, just a few more games. :man10:

This version of Pau Gasol is probably a 3rd best player on a Championship team.

It's great that he's playing good lately. His trade value only increases.

We really need to trade Pau before the deadline, especially with Kobe's extension. The 2014 plan is gone, the front office is preparing for a 2015/2016 plan. Or rather, a "2013 to 2016 plan" :jam2:

Last 5 games

3 W 2 L

18.2 pts
10.8 rebs
.471 FG
0.8 steals
1.4 blocks
+/- +2.4
34.8 mins

Those are good numbers and let's hope it's a trend and the FG goes up.
