Its the same folks that I normally agree with on other topics that I'm somewhat conflicting with on Pau. Maybe I got a soft spot for the big fella, but I'm not opposing you guys on the age issue.

I just feel like he could be a rich man's Sabonis. I know Sabonis used a bit more of his girth to bang in the paint, but he did give that Portland team another dimension in his older days. The style of play is alot more faster and with a guy that is aging and with some shoddy wheels, I have to believe that the uptempo system we want to run isn't really helping our 2nd best player.

He went from shooting 50% to 46% with the Brown to MDA swap. He's been declining since 2011, but his numbers nose dove last year, while under Brown he remained on pace with his previous season with Phil.

He's played with both Drew and LO, so you can't use the argument that Dwight was limiting his numbers....its really on MDA's rotations and tempo, along with his declining health due to age.

That being said, I do agree that Pau deserves the lumps that he gets here at CL. I just disagree that this is entirely Pau's doing. He's gotten help in his rapid decline.

^^ don't misunderstand my analysis of Pau as giving lumps. To me, he's always been a face up center that really only a changed his game for about 2 years under Phil. He's never been the back to the basket type of player.....he could do it but wasn't natural.

I think his greatness was cemented with how he played against a prime Howard in the finals.... That speaks to who he was at his peak.

Unfortunately he is getting old and it looks like he isn't going to age like othe centers. He's still a valuable player but he's more valuable to the Lakers as trade fodder at this point IMHO.

I follow the center position more than any other....and I've been watching since 1972 so I've seen a few. I would put Pau in the top 5 most fundamentally skilled I've ever seen. Kareem, Hakeem, Sampson and Robinson and Pau.

I'm really not sure about trading Pau unless we take on mostly expiring contracts or get a young player much better than anyone is gonna give up for Pau. With Nash looking like retirement is a strong possibility, we might get him to agree to a buyout & then go into the offseason with an almost completely clear cap. I think I'd rather see how many good players Mitch can talk into eating into that space while still saving room for Kobe & a handful of our role players that we'll no doubt want to bring back. If Pau wants 10M or more, I'd rather throw that money at Gortat next summer & make him the defensive anchor with Melo at PF. I think we'll lose a role player or 2.. X, Farmar, Hill will all draw interest from other teams if they keep it up.. So will Nick Young if he doesn't exercise his option to stay here on the cheap. I'd rather go out & get as much top level talent as we can with our cap space than overpay to keep good roleplayers.. We'll find more good roleplayers if those guys Earl Clark us. We won't be in a position to sign star players again for a few years. We have to take full advantage of it. Part of that is riding out the season with Pau as our best big.

^^ this where we don't see eye to eye..... I'd trade Pau for garbage contracts if it ensures that Melo never wears a Laker uniform.

Pau and Nash are probably pretty much un-tradeable at their current price tags. I don't think we want crap contracts in return, and I doubt teams would be willing to give up future talent for the expirings. But you never know. We are talking about Mitch. But then again, we're talking about having to take back multiple players for each most likely, and we don't have roster spots to do any two for ones.

Love that quote...so we'll continue to run Nash and Blake out there because obviously we're creating a competitive advantage with those two quick, athletic guards... :man11:

How do you created advantages other ways, if those two are the ones pounding the rock for 20 seconds?

What.... didn't you watch the GS and Dallas games?... :man10:

if either one of our guards could shoot we can create a split second advantage if we line up 4 consecutive screens and only a couple are illegal....

I'm a big Pau, have been since he was traded here, but it's clear that age and mileage have taken its toll on him.

I agree. I defended Pau when everyone was saying how he's soft etc. But he's just not that great anymore. Skill-wise he's still amazing. His IQ is high. He's a great teammate and loves this team. This is all obvious. But physically, he just can't bring it anymore, at least not at the All-star level. He's just a solid 5 now, who is worth probably 1/3 or a little more of what he is being paid currently.

He's like Nash, but younger, and therefore still better. You can see Nash has all the right ideas when he's playing, but he is always one step slow to pass, shoot, come off the screen... it happens. It's not thier fault, it just happens.

Pau really expects to get paid next year playing like this? He's shooting 40% from the field when the post is all his :man10:

Can we seriously trade him?

Straight up garbage. No defense, no offense, doesn't even look like he gives a crap out there.

Absolutely. Avoids incoming defenders, mistakes everywhere and is looking like he's just here to collect his paycheque.
