Gasol is gonna be turning 33 this summer and his numbers have declined each of the last 3 years especially in the playoffs, hes owed $19 mil as an expiring, i really dont think teams who want him care for his production considering his biggest value is his contract. It all depends on how his exit will be handled...Lakers no.1 priority is salary cutting can they make a trade on draft day to bring in picks/small contract role players? If not amnesty is the next best option. I dont see him lasting beyond 1st week of July after amnesty period

it's time for Pau to embrace the bench..we can't cater to his demands if we're gonna continue to lose games

On effort and defense for sure. But gassed Clark means he's still trying to give 100% because that's the kind of guy he is. I just don't want him getting more injured.

agreed...if Pau came off the bench for Clark, it would relieve some of that wear and tear...even if its for 4-5mins...the whole dynamic of the team changed when Pau came back...what they built up to that point has been undone

^ Yeah, definitely. But to me that points directly at our coach.

I don't blame Pau. I'm not upset with him as much as I am upset with Mike. Obviously something is going wrong and right now is not the time to experiment or get guys worked in. If Pau was working off the bench before his injury, let's stick to that.

Our problems still are the same: defense, defense, defense. Not having a real offense. Depending on jump shots, and having a streaky bench that plays mediocre defense at best. Most of the is due to coaching philosophy. Obviously we need some personnel improvements too.

He's still a defensive non-entity.

Teams know they can score at will by giving the ball to Gasol's man.

i still can't wrap my head around why d'antoni/pau would want to rock the boat on his return (referring to sticking him back in the starting 5)...esp when things were going better without him

i don't think amnesty is an option with pau. my guess is they hold onto him until the bitter end. that may occur in late july, when all these teams that hoarded cap space and lose out on the bidding for the likes of josh smith decide that a one-year flier on pau is probably equal to or better than a 4-year commitment to al jefferson at big money. failing that, he's an expiring at the deadline (in case, say, kevin love demands out...). failing that, he's money off the cap for the reset in 2014.

all of that is preferable to the amnesty, which does nothing for the lakers in terms of team building.

Good! Why D'Antoni decided to start Gasol coming back from an injury instead of slowly inserting him back into the lineup by having him come off the bench, I'll never understand.

doesn't really matter really at this point. I mean I wish I didn't feel this way and will forever be greatly for what Pau helped us win 2 rings but he's as good as gone. No way he is with this team at the end of next year. He may not be traded in the off-season, but we'll make sure we don't have to pay his 19 million expiring deal.

I have been out this week in Las Vegas from Hawaii, doing some improvements to my home. Today I heard a rumor on ESPN 1100 shows DC and the Sunshine Man, that Mitch and David Kahn have been "casually discussing" a swap of Pau Gasol and Jordan Hill for Kevin Love.If this happens, Mitch deserves a statue outside of Staples Center....NOW!!!!

David Kahn is a horrible GM, IMO. I don't believe for one minute he would execute that trade. That trade only gets done this summer through a 3-team trade, IMO.

I don't think Kahn is a great GM, but I also don't think he's a blind, brain-dead moron, and he would have to be to trade Love for Pau.

This is tough cause I truly believe we are going to need him if we have a .0001% chance of advancing in the playoffs, but he's SOOOO downright awful right now that he's doing more harm than good. It's a catch 22. You need him out there hoping he can shake off a little of this dust and rust and get some type of chemistry patched together for the post-season, However, by forcing him out there where he doesn't fit and isn't in playing shape, he might contribute to us not even making the post-season.

My thoughts with him returning were -- well at least with another 7 footer out there it'll help with rebounds and defensively when Dwight is out and it'll help Dwight get a little more rest. But DAMN!

(NOTE: I know Pau's never been a good defender, but I was hoping he'd at least be an improvement from Jamison at center. Sadly, he's not there yet)

^ He's always been an alright post defender. He's never been that bad in that arena. He's just not a fantastic HELP defender because he's pretty unathletic.

And that was BEFORE all these injuries. Now he's on the wrong side of 30 and he's getting hit by injuries all over the place... the dude is just slow. So slow.

Nor can the Lakers get blamed for always making the right decisions over decades. At some point its not just luck or "gamble", its superior management and superior ownership.

Maybe if you think his only job is getting wins..... Two of Spain's biggest sports heros on the same team..... Remember how much merchandise Yao sold in China?

I thought about this too, but honestly, it's still a WAY too one-sided trade for him to consider.
He'd have to ask for some extra pieces, not that we have many btw, and any decent pick we have..

A much more reasonable trade for him would be something like Love and, say, Williams for Marc Gasol. (it could be a straight up swap but Love's been injured all season while Marc has played tremendous basketball on both ends. I think a "sweetener" would be asked for by Memphis)
Gets the 2 spaniards to play together, but the much better Gasol (currently)
