Pau Gasol diagnosed with plantar fasciitis

Postby emplay on Thu Dec 27, 2012 5:54 pm

Hey all,

So yeah, Pau has plantar fasciitis - which can vary in severity from case to case. Basically a sore right foot.

Howard is 2 flagrant foul points away from automatic suspension

Also, Kobe passes LeBron on All-Star votes (second count)

Ohhhh.... Planter fasciitis.... I thought it was vaginitis..... j/k....

If he has that it could limit him all year.... we saw what Artest looked like when he was battling that....

While that would have been an awesome trade, I think had we made it we would have been stuck with Bynum. There was no chance Orlando would give us Dwight if we had gotten CP3, they would not want to be responsible for creating a powerhouse trio of CP3-Kobe-Dwight for years to come. Even after Kobe retires, CP3 and Dwight would wreak havoc on the league, its so easy to build a team around that.

So while it looked good in retrospect, I think right now we would be stuck with CP3-Kobe, and then no Gasol or Bynum. This team would probably look a lot worse then it already does, we cant play D even with Dwight. And who knows if Bynum ever comes back to be a top center.

This would explain why he's so slow on the court and getting zero lift.

Well, that's not good. Now we know why he can't jump at all.

Last year it was Ron who can't jump.....this year it's Pau. Shoulda shipped him to HOU for Dragic, Scola and Martin.....sigh.

We all agreed that health was going to be the biggest concern this year, and so far it's really been our downfall. It happens. And it happens more with an aging team, no doubt. But yes, this explains his lack of lift.

We've been very unlucky with injuries to our key players. Unless Pau sits out for who knows how long I expect this is something that will continue to bother him for the rest of the season. It also appears this will destroy any bit of trade value has at least for this season.

I had that a couple years ago. Its was a royal pain to just walk around. I can imagine how hard it would be for a basketball player to run up and down the court. Any pain killing injections he can do?

... Damn, I forgot that this was actually once a realistic trade possibility.

The thought of those three on this current roster instead of Pau ... we wouldn't be much better defensively but we'd probably be one of the best offensive teams ever assembled.

You do realize if we had made that trade we wouldn't have gotten Nash right?

Yes. We'd still have the LO TPE so it wouldn't be impossible, but obviously a trade of that magnitude would have changed everything. I'm just bored and thinking hypothetically.

Year round ball for a number of years in a row is catching up to him. Combine that with the lack of strength conditioning and he's coming unglued at a fairly early age.....

Even with all of that against him he is still pretty good when used correctly..... but I digress....

silver lining: maybe they'll sit him. imo, he's hurting the team right now as he is. healthy pau would be great, but that's clearly not what we're seeing. he's not guarding anyone, and he's not effective in the post on offense. you hired dantoni; let him play his style with jamison starting next to howard, hill at backup c, and mwp at backup pf.

if pau can get his foot right, maybe he can help later on in the season. but i've had plantar fasciitis. it took...maybe a year and a half to fully get rid of it. something like that. lots of nba players have had full seasons tanked because of it.

he's on the decline and at a very rapid pace

so sad to see but a change needs to be made. he just can't help this team like he used to anymore

He has to be moved, if the Lakers keep the team as in we will not win the championship, or even make it far. I just hope there still is interest for him.

if there was, i'm pretty sure this killed it. just have to hope he gets better.

he'll be movable this summer, imo, even if he keeps on like this all year. but until then, just gotta roll with the punches.

Well, if he's playing Friday, I hope he's fine. MDA might have to limit his minutes. We do have three days off after Portland, though...

I love Pau & his passing is definitely important to our team, but the guy is starting to fall apart with injuries & age, we need someone quicker and soon before his health & his value keep decreasing.

Pau's been playing for Spain *every* summer except 2005 when he was recovering from knee surgery and 2010 when he took the summer off after 3 consecutive NBA Finals appearances. I documented this in a post on the dedicated Gasol thread. Quick summary here

2001,2003,2007,2009 - eurobasket
2002,2006 - world championship
2004,2008,2012 - olympics

Before he joined the Lakers, the summer appearances weren't so bad as he never played past the first round of the NBA playoffs. Since he joined the Lakers, it's been 3 consecutive Finals plus 2 second round exits.

I knew he was close to breaking down, but I thought he'd hold on another year or two. maybe not...
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
