Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine
On top of Kobe's support, whispers have been emanating from Lakerland that team brass has renewed excitement about Pau with Nash en route

I hope you're joking.

You people forgot really fast about last season. And don't expect Pau to be beast because Nash. The less you expect, less you will be disappointed.......

When next year, Pau and Nash are the most devastating pick and roll offense in the league, then we shall see what the excuse will be for all the Gasol detractors.

In a heartbeat.....
I don't get the "renewed enthusiasm" for Pau with Nash here stuff.... Pau's problems aren't based in anything Nash can do for him..... Pau shrinks under pressure..... he passed up shots.... made turnovers.... blew defensive assignments and generally played soft and scared down the stretch in almost all of our playoff games over the last two years..... that has nothing to do with getting an open look from Nash.... or being a great team player.... we need more players that have the spheres to be "selfish" at the right times... not another puffball that says the right stuff and hides when the pressure is on...
Love Pau and what he brought but I'd trade him for depth and shooters in a NY minute....

A guy who has made a living making just about every player he's ever played with much better. Guys have career years with Nash, get big contracts, but once they leave Nash are never the same. Marcin Gortat was a backup center before being traded to Phoenix and playing with Nash who turned him into a top flight center. If he can turn Gortat into an All Star center I'm pretty sure he can get Pau back to his 2010 form. Unless the offers blow us away we should keep Pau. I certainly wouldn't trade Pau for a lesser player like Deng, Igoudala, or Granger. Besides we don't need a better starting SF we need anther bench piece or two.

it's not all about the addition of nash. it's the fact that for the past 2 seasons, pau has choked big time during the postseason. nash can't change that and neither can anyone else. i'm sure nash will increase pau's numbers during the season but the postseason is a whole different story

I'll just agree to disagree on the Pau for Iggy / Deng / Granger because having another person to space the floor for Nash / Kobe / Bynum, that can score and create for himself, while playing above average defense wouldn't be better suited for this team.

2.) Nash can get Pau all these open looks, but is he going to make Pau shoot it too? How is Nash going to help him do that, spot him?
Two examples off the top of my head...
First is the Denver game.....Matt Barnes inbounds the ball to Pau Gasol, great position to make a move in the post. Pau passes out to Barnes, turnover, Barnes wasn't even inbounds yet before Pau got rid of the ball.
Second, OKC game. Kobe sets him at the end of the game for a wide open shot. Pau doesn't shoot it, turns it over, the rest is history.
Nash can definitely get Pau from point A to point B, but getting from Point B to Point C is all on Pau and the last two playoff's he has shown he can't do that anymore.
