I don't want Pau playing anywhere near the basket and getting post touches. What did you do vs. Harrington? Landry? Faried? Crowder? etc....

Absolutely nothing. I'll take D12/Hill/Jamison/Kobe/MWP in the post before I want Pau getting touches down there. Who wants to see a 7 footer with a clear advantage over everyone shoot fadeaway after fadeaway? Not me.

And defensively? Why isn't he saying anything about his defense? My philosophy is no D, no O, until Pau shows some stones on defense, he can keep trotting around pouting.

I think Jamison/Hill can handle the PF spot, so getting a backup PG, SF and C wouldn't be a trade IMO.

At this point I'll trade Pau for a sack of potatoes The guy has outlived his usefulness. He hurts the team more than he helps. He needs a change of scenery

You guys are being quite harsh. He is playing a role that does not suit him. I was never a fan of the twin towers because both Bynum and Pau need room to operate. Now, it is Howard and Pau with the same issues.

If Pau was a backup to Dwight and played the 5 he would be in a much better position to contribute. He is an excellent passer and if given space he can put pressure on every center in the league. The guy is that good. It's kind of unfair he's been guarding PFs and getting his butt handed to him. He is not a PF and at this point in his career would be better served playing against slower centers.

gasol didn't work with bynum, and now he doesn't work with dwight. pau's a center, and a good one. when the lakers trade him, he's going to play very well for someone else. that said, the writing's on the wall. i think ryan anderson is a sensible target.

pau for calderon, bargnani, and kleiza would be amazing

too bad it won't happen. i don't see any team giving up anything special for pau at this point. he should just come off the bench and play the 5 with hill at 4

This. I've made the suggestion as well. It's almost too obvious... bench needs help, Pau isn't productive with Dwight in the paint... so just have him come off the bench and still play 30 minutes, the same way we used Lamar when he won 6th man.

If he can't effectively back down or face up against the likes of harrington, faried, landry, speights, LA, and dirk, how can he play center against bigger stronger guys? And don't say he will blow past them off the face up dribble. He can still drive, somewhat, but can't finish and rarely looks to dunk the ball and draw the foul. And he can't hit FTs consistently in close games.

Yes -- he still has great skills -- shooting, dribbling, passing, and using both hands around the basket. But his softness is way worse now than ever. He gets easily pushed of the block, out rebounded by smaller guys (like Rudy and Speights last night), and CANNOT DEFEND AGGRESSIVE players at all. We saw landry, faried, cousins, brand, and so many other average players take him to the hole with confidence.

The Lakers won with him and LO. yes. But have not won with the two bigs (the exception being the celts series cause they play slow ball to our liking and our bigs matched up -- esp with Perk out game 7).

If we had Phil, fine, keep trying to use him. But with MDA and Nash coming back, I say we get younger, deeper, and more athletic if we can. I would take what Yi has been brining in China over Gasol right now.

Someone else said it -- if Gasol can't get up to play strong, motivated, and aggressive hoops against his brother and former team, then we should stop hoping for some light switch to turn. His post seasons lately have been bad because he has checked out mentally. soft tissue in mind, body, and spirit. And you can see it pissing kobe and dwight and metta and MDA off.

Trading Pau now to Indiana? Granger is out for a while I believe.

Last summer I wanted West and Granger for Pau. That gives us a PF that absolutely thrived in the pick and roll with Paul and a 3 that can stretch the floor and play some defense. If something like this happened we would have the floor balance we've lacked for 2 years. Something tells me that trading Pau is going to be a lot harder than we think. If his play were at a higher level it would help things but he's spiraling down right now....

With MDA's system, Pau is just not a good fit. Forget not being a good fit, he's a very bad fit.

Jamison can start and be that stretch 4 that allows Dwight to own the paint. Right now, Dwight is getting doubled the way he is because Gasol is 5-8 feet away and his man can blitz Dwight.

Defensively it'll work too. Against OKC Jamison would be pulling Ibaka outta the lane, against the Heat he can guard Battier or Lewis. Against the Clippers he can hold Blake enough. Plus, Hill would be a really good rotational big man who can get all the major backup mins at both the 4 and the 5. Then go out and sign or as part of the trade bring in another big man.

It's sad that Pau has fallen off this much...I really think its time to get rid of him and bring in some athletic wings. I don't think we can get Granger for Pau...I'm thinking we need to find a workable deal with the Charlotte Bobcats. Try to get Ben Gordon as part of the deal, who would be PERFECT in this offense....maybe Ramon Sessions and we give them one of our back ups (although Sessions has played really well for them)....I'd say get Tyrus Thomas, Ben Gordon and Ramon Sessions for Pau Gasol and Morris. Gives them a legit big...they can run Kemba, Henderson, MKG, Mullens and Gasol. We will get deeper and more athletic with Ty Thomas, BG and Sessions.

We've done a number of deals with the Cats in the past...

Also, we should look at Sacramento as another trading partner...give em Pau, we get Jason Thompson, Jimmer Fredette (Or Isaiah Thomas), and James Johnson. Yes, this is how low Pau's value is now...but we can definitely do Pau and two low salaried players for multiple players that can fill the holes we need....

But i also thought about this...Pau is our "Dwight" insurance. If Dwight goes down, we're screwed if we don't have Pau to shift over to the 5. That's one reason I don't think the Lakers will look to trade Pau....

Haha good point man. I guess whichever big we get in the Pau trade will be decent enough, and probably better defensively. I wouldn't mind getting Chuck Hayes. That guy will bring it every night. Chuck Hayes, Jimmer, and James Johnson? I'm down. We just need some solid dudes that will know their roles....we don't need a superstar in exchange for Pau....Pau is gonna be the best player in any deal we make so the team making a deal with us should have incentive to make the deal...esp if they're a fringe playoff team.

Agreed. I said this in the gameday thread last night, we need more grunts that bring the lunch pale and hard hats every day to work. We have enough chiefs on this team (Nash/Kobe/D12), we need more indians.

Look at the Heat for example. They have the big 3, but they are surrounded by indians who bring it every night. The big 4 is great in theory, but in reality it's too many mouths to feed, especially when the big dogs eat a ton.

With Jamison/Hill/Meeks/MWP we have solid role players. I think we still lack a score first PG that can get his at anytime and a SF that can space the floor and knock down the J. Jamison/Hill can lock down the PF position. Get a PG/SF/C for Pau and I think we get better.

paus going to get it going sooner or later, its not going to be 09 pau, but he'll improve.
