Pau Thread: Surgery a success; now rehab & rest for 12 weeks

^Yeah, I'm not an expert. I think any deal involving Pau will be with a third team. It can involve Minnesota; but they don't have anybody on their roster (besides Love) that I would really desire. As we know, there is no way Minnesota is trading Love. So, an inevitable third team needs to be in place to acquire pieces that we need to create more floor balance with this roster...

Pau is done and can't play next to D12, we need to trade his $19 mil salary into some depth

Wow, that is just funny to watch. I'm surprised there was no foul called on that play.

Every game or so, a player needs to do what Kobe did to Pau in their first USA vs Spain Gold Medal game where Kobe just ran right through Pau's screen and took the foul for the hell of it. It softens that player up the rest of the game, and it's almost as if they become less aggressive because of it.

Interesting. The Celtics were reportedly interested in Cousins; Cousins has become a cancer to this team, Pau needs to be traded, IMO; so, the pieces fit. Who knows, though? Is this guy a reliable source?

This trade doesn't work in the ESPN trade machine. But if SAC traded say Jason Thompson instead of Francisco Garcia to BOS then it would work.

you gotta sell on gasol. doesn't matter if you get less value, but you turn him into a few assets that can cover up some of the holes on the team.

pau's value to someone else can be greater than he is to us.

Problem is, if we keep Dwight and Kobe, then we can't have any contracts beyond 1 year. I guess it depends on how much Kobe is going to want to re-sign here, but, if Dwight stays then he and Nash are what, around $29M or so alone? Plus Kobe, and then you just don't have a lot left to fill out the remainder of the roster.

Can we trade him for 2008 Pau somehow?

i love nash, but he'll be 40 years old and an expiring at that point. if we can move him, even for a draft pick or two and a trade exemption, i think you do it.

$35M + a Nash trade exemption. Keep Meeks and Hill for a combined $8M a year. That's $43M. You can get another $10M a year player, and maybe someone at ~$4M.

there's also the ability to move pau for something, maybe it's derrick williams+Pekovic, relatively cheap contracts, younger bodies to fill out the roster.

anyway, just hypothesizing obviously, but it's something that the FO is going to need to look at soon.

Sad part is, I'm not confident that we will even trade him, at least during this season.

I highly doubt Kobe will want to stay for $15M. Also, I don't think Hill and Meeks can be resigned for $8M combined. Maybe $10M but those may be the only two guys earning their keep right now.

The team isn't 15-18 because of Pau, the only reason I want him gone is because 19mil is extremely too much to pay for this sort of play, also we need someone quicker to compliment dwight defensively.

No, Pau isn't the reason we are 15-18, but he's the only player we can realistically trade to try and add depth, youth, maybe athleticism to our team. Agreed. We are 15-18 because this team is old, slow and gives up way too many easy buckets. That crappy bench, outside Hill and sometimes Meeks, is not helping either.
Gasol is the only piece that might get us a couple of younger legs.

why is it Gasol plays at a high level for Spain right in between these boneheaded coaches we have with the Lakers?

and at what cost to your cap and future flexibility?

You might get some better fits back but you might also find you don't do enough for now and kill your future cap wise........... remember what the leverage is here...... it's not in the Lakers favor and the reak of desperation will attract some sharks.

If you watched Dwight practise report after game vs Clippers, he said one good thing.
We are not THAT old, that is not a reason for 15-18, and he got a point.
He said New York is old, Boston is old, San Antonio is SUPER old, but they are doing job, yeah that is just how he said.
There are a lot more problem's in this team, old and slow are just one more excuse.....
And yes, Pau is so so gone from this team, i just wait to see a news that he is traded.

Sorry but San Antonio is not that old anymore. They have 3 starters under 30. They've added some youth in case you missed it.

New York is old, but they are deeper.

Boston is not doing so well either at 16-17.

I agree the age problem is not the only one, but it's one of the big ones. It really shows on defense. A 100% Dwight will improve this defense, but we need to get younger. And deeper, a 2-player bench ain't helping.

That still should not = 15-18 at all...
