Really is so bad on D. atrocious really. But his offense today was just fine so I wont yell at him much. He still needs to go hopefully after a stretch of good play so he gets some trade value.

^^ This is pretty fair. I don't think his D was anywhere near atrocious - it wasn't good . . . but that's what you get with him out there now. But yes, his offense offset that somewhat. Enough that we were in the game throughout the fourth we just couldn't close it out.

lbj is the most unstoppable force in the league, and was a beast tonight.

so why LBJ didn't come full steam at D12 possession after possession ... angles and defensive position as a paint anchor are clearly unknown notions for Pau ...

It's not only Lebron , Wade and I think Chalmers got layups at the rim in the 1st help because Pau didn't help from the weakside

miami needs some size since they're stacked with SFs. we should move gasol for lebron. i think lebron could be a good fit.

throw in duhon for good measure.

short quick answer: d12 is a defensive beast. even if pau is an average defender, lebron will abuse him. if you consider pau a below average defender, what can you expect with the greatest physical freak in the game coming at you.

it was more important to keep d12 on the floor when lbj was playing, but that didn't happen.

I liked him in the 1st half, but the second half proved why we can't play him with Dwight. He clogs up the paint too much and doesn't allow for dribble penetration. We need to either sit him down at the end of games for Clark or trade him for pieces, he's still a great player but a terrible fit for this team and this system.

This is true. I've been saying this all year. Steve Kerr finally said it tonight; two bigs don't work because Pau isn't the ideal floor spacer. He needs to be closer to the basket; so does Dwight. Dwight is more effective when Pau is out of the game. If Pau is aggressive when Dwight is out, the same goes for him. We should have really put Clark in at the end in the last 5 minutes. I don't know if it would have changed the result; but our defense suffers out there when Pau is out there.

He was relatively good on offense. His D was awful though.
His protection of the rim is similar to just putting a giant cone close to the basket and seeing what happens.

I give him B- in his 1st returning game. Need to improve more in internal defense though.

Pau Gasol 'probably not' open to coming off the bench

By Eric Pincus

January 17, 2013, 11:16 p.m.
Pau Gasol returned after a five-game absence on Thursday night in the Lakers 99-90 loss to the Miami Heat.

Gasol came off the bench in his first appearance since suffering a concussion on Jan. 6 against the Denver Nuggets.

"I've been a starter my entire career. I think this is my first games as a Laker, coming from the bench," said Gasol. "It's not something that I would enjoy I think."

Gasol said he understood the circumstances, "coming back from the concussion" against the Heat after almost two weeks off.

Would he be open to coming off the bench moving forward?

"Probably not," answered Gasol.

Additionally the Lakers forward-center expects to be on the floor in the final moments of games.

"I would always like to finish games. I think the most determined players, important players finish games," said Gasol after the defeat. "When the games are on the line, you need to have the best players on the floor."

Coach Mike D'Antoni has struggled to blend big men Dwight Howard and Gasol successfully with the team's supporting cast. Given that Howard is very likely to be on the floor with the game on the line, the Lakers have to decide if that's a workable combination.

Gasol scored 12 points against the Heat, eight coming in the first half. Miami scored the final nine points of the game against the Lakers (with a lineup that included Howard and Gasol).

Lol Pau is definitely trying to force something here. Either to give him minutes or to get him traded.

He's not playing the, "I'll do whatever is necessary for the team to win" card anymore which is really bad for team chemistry.

To be fair, I can understand Pau feeling disrespected if he has to come of the bench for Clark, a 2 time NBA champion, world champion, multiple time All-Star, etc, but I still don't like the words he's used or the attitude. At this point he'd be better served saying "I'll do what's best for the team" even if he doesn't mean it, then again as mentioned I'm not sure he cares to be here anymore.

Im with you on this. I am a big Pau fan but his latest reports have been troubling for me. I wonder if he is hearing all the "trade Pau" talk and that is getting to him. Afterall the Lakers had already traded him once. He could be checking out which I would be disappointed. Again, I liked what I saw from him today. I also think he would do us wonders coming off the bench but I understand why he may not feel that is great for him.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

I think Pau will get back his starting role soon. Just like the case of MWP, he is mad and playing out of mind as a bench. :man10:

That's what I'm saying, he's thinking about what's great for him, not for the team. He won't even consider it he said, or give it a shot, it's just out of the question.

The one positive I take from Pau's comments is that he still believes in himself.. When that stops he will truly be done.

I liked his offense off the bench, but what's the point when he gives it right back on the defensive end. D12 goes out and it's open season on the paint.

Clark should have finished the game last night, because we needed stops.

This entitled attitude that Pau has now should get him a one way ticket out of LA sooner rather than later.

I was so pissed that Tony didn't put in Clark back in at the 3-4 minute mark of the 4th.

As far as Pau feeling "disrespected"...... ya I'm sure Dr.Buss and Mitch totally disrespected him by giving him 19mil.

This. Pau to me was a net negative. He provided some okay things on defense, but when he checked in LeBron started salivating. He couldn't wait to drive on Gasol and either get an open easy lay-up or get a foul or get a phantom call like he's used to.

Pau's defense was absolutely atrocious.

Hey Pau, this is about you and your crappy defense. But feel free to comment on how you didn't get enough touches while the whole world is looking at your defense, except you.

Going back and reading the earlier pages of this thread brings back memories about how good Pau was. What the hell happened to this guy? How can someone just decline and play with no heart so fast? I just don't understand it. Knowing that he can get his 3rd championship ring with the same team should motivate him enough. If not that then the amount of money he is getting paid should motivate him. He truly has become the bottom of the barrel on this team.
