I wouldn't elect Gasol's game against Phoenix & Nets as a good measurement to his good play, he got burned by Scola in the 4th quarter and couldn't get a offensive rebound over Brook Lopez.

Brook Lopez is an allstar.

and Brooklyn Nets isn't your Charlotte Bobcats..this isn't a game we should've won.

Considering the fact that the Lakers pay Gasol 19M per it's not reasonable to look at the positves for 1 player and ignore the rest of his weaknesses.... you only do that to players who barely get the Mini-MLE exception.

This argument is brought up far too much. He makes what he makes, he doesn't deserve extra criticism because he makes more money, he earned that money by helping us get 2 titles. I do think he makes too much now, but oh well, nobody can change that. Complaining about his negatives all season long doesn't fix them either, it's just repetitive and old. He's been playing well, we're 3-0 without Howard and with Pau starting, so I choose to focus on the good he's done instead of the things he can't do like jump and protect the rim like Howard. He put up 20/10 the last 2 games starting and had 15 tonight before he went down and we're winning, so I'm good.

How can you call Pau soft for getting injured? And how can you predict how long he will be out, we have no idea.

because some fans are tough as nails and can play at an elite level no matter what if they "just had a chance" to play. tigerjeterkobe is one of those fans obviously.

Blah blah blah. Typical condescending post. As I said, he has been breaking down all season, with various injuries. He CHOSE to sit out with sore knees, so even if this were not a serious injury, he would milk it because he always does. This sounds like he gets what he wants - a real injury to check out and get paid. It was obvious he would wear down and get hurt again. Should have traded him in December like many of us said.

And Kobe is "tough as nails" and can play at an elite level. Jeter too. And tiger. So there...

Like I said tough fans sitting on the couch acting like they could hold the jockstrap of 99.9% of these guys. The Lakers aren't trading Pau till the summer to get the best value (if they trade him at all). Many of "us" say a lot of stuff which is why "none" of us are the Owner, GM or Coach of any NBA team. so there.

The mileage of year round competitive play is catching up with him..... He's got nearly as much game time as Kobe in fewer years because of his international play.

Ok, fair points. But two things:

I never acted like a tough guy. You said that out of nowhere. I said Gasol is soft and doesn't play while hurt, typically. He has also been a slow healer recently. Just my observations - so before knowing anything I said I bet he is out until after the a-star break bc that's been his thing at times. Calling Gasol soft and predicting that he would not play through pain is not saying that I am some super tough guy.

Two - if they are waiting to trade him this summer they were planning on wasting this year then. That is bs to me. But right, I am not a gm, just a fan that thought the FO was committed to trying to win this year and next. It was clear when they hired MDA that gasol had to go. No reason to wait and waste an opportunity this year. Just my o

now the Lakers will likely have to find a way to sign Kenyon Martin or make a small trade that lands them Dalembert or Jason Thompson. :man8:

This organization is snake bitten with big men lately. They hold on to Pau too long when they should have dumped him at least a year ago (tho I give credit for that botched Houston trade). They pull off a mega trade for Dwight, but he's more likely to leave then stay, leaving us with broken down Pau. Had we kept Bynum, he'd be sitting on the bench injured growing his afro. And we have Sacre who, if he were 6'11", wouldn't have been the 60th pick. Thank god for the throw in of Earl Clark.

that was always a concern. The guy plays year round every year. I think the only time he didn't was after the 08 season.

I think we can handle him being out for 3-4 weeks so long as Dwight comes back...like now...and doesn't get injured again. Playing without either of those guys and with Jordan Hill out sends us into the D-league sector of our bench, a place we should never have to go with the situation we're in.

I hope hes alright

Before the injury it was really frustrating to watch him, he wasn't able to grab boards and he wasn't converting open opportunities from 10-15 feet and in the paint area while playing the primary post position at Center.

I just dont know what to think of him. Hopefully he can return soon

Pau Gasol said that he felt a "pop" in his right foot and he left the Barclay's Center on crutches after Tuesday's game.

The popping sound could mean Gasol may have torn his plantar fascia and it's becoming more and more likely that he's going to have to miss multiple games. He said that his plantar fasciitis got worse in Friday's game against Minnesota, so he's been trying to play through it and it may have caught up to him. As a reference point, Richard Hamilton suffered a partially torn plantar fascia back in December and he missed almost one month. Every injury is different, though, and Gasol's MRI on Wednesday will shed some light on a possible prognosis. Earl Clark is a must-own player while Antawn Jamison is worth a look in all leagues.

It's never good when you here a body part "pop." Hopefully he won't have to miss too much time if any, we can't afford him to be out for long especially with Dwight out.

^^ Great post. Thank you for this one Weezy - this is the approach I've been taking as well. As long as he's still on our team and doing what he's paid to do I'm not tossing him under the bus. He should stop with the pity party stuff about coming off the bench, but otherwise I like most of what I see on the court lately.

It would actually be great news if he just tore his plantar fascia because then it would mean that it could now start to heal, which is what Kurt Rambis and Kobe said in the post game comments.

Now if he ruptured it then, its all bad and he'll be out anywhere north of 6 weeks like it was mentioned earlier.

Lakerholicz ‏@Lakerholicz

RT @DavidjBrickley: Kurt Rambis saying its actually good to completely tear the facia. Its really sore for a couple days but gets better.

Yeah I'm not thrilled with all his outspoken comments, but at the same time I get it, he doesn't see eye to eye with the coach and has a lot of confidence in himself. I'd prefer if he kept that all behind closed doors, but as far as his play on the court goes, I'm happy with it right now.

Injuries happen that way all the time, guys go up, things tear or pop, those are often the worst kinds. It wasn't his ankle so it didn't happen twisting it coming down, it was his foot injury, finally gave out I guess.
