Payton & his agent officially list options - Lakers

Postby Lakers Dynasty 2000 on Tue Jun 17, 2003 10:51 pm

Eric Goodwin, part of the Oakland-based firm owned by his twin brother Aaron Goodwin, said Payton expects to look at the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trail Blazers and the Warriors.

Payton said late last month on Fox Sports Net TV that "anything's possible" with regard to his future, but indicated the Bucks will get first crack. Payton was traded to Milwaukee in February after spending 121/2 seasons with the Seattle SuperSonics.

"As everybody knows, my coach is George Karl. I've got to give him the opportunity to make their pitch for me in Milwaukee," Payton said. "Then I'm going to do whatever I feel is right for me. In my later years, I want to try to win a championship."...

...Eric Goodwin confirmed that the chance to win a championship is high on Payton's list of priorities, but said it's not his only concern.

"Quality of life is paramount," Goodwin said. "Gary has three children, and two of them can read every day about what their dad does. That's something that really influences him ... the city, the opportunity to win, what type of education and what type of friends his kids will have."

Well if he is making a decision based on where he can get a ring that will automatically cross out Golden State and Milwaukee. So I guess we will have to wait and see.

He certainly seems to be spending a lot of time in LA and on the Best Damn Sports show NOT to be considering the Lakers.... an article in the LA Times the other day sure made it seem like he wouldn't mind coming here to play, the only drawback to him is the "low" salary. Cry me a river.... $4 mil to play for one year.... I'd be happy with that if I could win a ring.

Just ask Rick Fox.

Going to LA for less money for one year does wonder to your career. Fox's career was ressurected by coming to Los Angeles. Now you see him doing Ford Explorer commercials and marrying Vanessa Williams.

1-konobi, you are a genius! More free agents should look to Fox as an example. LA has everything, even celeb wives! But, GP is loyal. He was pissed to what seattle did to Coach Karl and what they later did to him. He will still be loyal to his coach and that's cool. Now if someone could put Coach Karl on line one, I have a few words for him.
Buckle up! This off season is going to be some ride...

GP is a west coast kinda player. He's better off in the west. The Sonics had to bring in younger talent cuz that's what they lookin forward to, the future, something we should consider doin very soon. But not anytime now, cuz Shaq isn't gone yet. But with GP next year, we'd be better off.
