Herein lies his problem. Why not win games, win championships, then let the points fall where they may? Who gives a damn about scoring points (just for the sake of scoring as an individual) if it comes without winning (or perhaps even at the expense of winning)? I don't understand how any fan doesn't understand this.

I just think it's ludicrous that some so-called "fans' actually have the nerve to suggest that Kobe cared more about adding to his scoring total, when he basically got all his points within the flow of the game and the #1 priority was winning the game. Yeah, there were a few stretches where he missed some shots....whoa now, stop the presses...Kobe missed some shots and kept chucking. LOL. Trade that ballhog. SMH.

Let's see here: 31 pts in 30 minutes and shot greater than 50%, that's a very good game...but he was more concerned with climbing the scoring ladder when it's obvious that he can get it whenever (like the next home game on Friday?).

So I'm guessing this thread will be updated until 2014 when Kobe has a chance to pass Kareem.

The people saying Kobe was shooting to pass Parish, why would he be? He's going to pass him. Whether it was last night or the next game. It's not like he has to do in asap. I don't think there's a "youngest to 18th place" record on the line haha.

i doubt Kobe cares at all on the eventual milestones like this one. I think when he gets close to Jordan or Wilt, then there may be some butterflies, otherwise, it's work as usual.

I don't think Kobe cares much about all of these other guys he's passing. He made it clear he only really cares about passing the Laker greats ( and probably MJ).

im proud of kobe. theres nothing wrong with acknowledging the passing of all time greats in statistics. it goes to show just how special of a player kobe is. as the next few seasons go, hopefully we will all get to enjoy a piece of each personal record kobe eclipses all the while leading our lakers to victory.

everyone knows what the true goal is, but its also okay to enjoy the ride.

i just think of guys like anfrenee hardaway and grant hill etc.

^ Exactly. What if we never traded for Kobe? What if he landed on a bad team, didn't develop this killer instinct, etc?

No matter how this season or those in the future end, we should be thankful to watch a true legend on a nightly basis.

Ya, now that Kobe is 19th on the career scoring list, he's decided to gun for 18th all-time.

He could end up 16th. If AI sits the rest of the season (big if) he would have to average about 32 a game to catch up to him.

It's going down TONIGHT. Charles Barkley better watch out cuz his record is NEXT! I wonder what Chuck is gonna say on TNT when Kobe does break his record...

There's 20 more games this season. Say Kobe averages 20 PPG that's 20X20 = 400. Kobe will break Chuck's record this season.

Anytime a Laker passes one of THOSE GUYS for a record...it is always a good thing! LOL!
Nor can the Lakers get blamed for always making the right decisions over decades. At some point its not just luck or "gamble", its superior management and superior ownership.

Kobe should average about 2000 points a season for the next few years. with 18 games left, he should just pass Chuck. then next year he should move up to 11 or 12, the season after that he'll be around 6. then it s big leap to pass Wilt and MJ. all this without looking at Shaq and AI since they could keep it going, or maybe retire, get injured etc. but by the end of next year the ESPN chatter will be about how high Kobe can go (and how fast Lebron will catch up...)

18th or 23rd now???

Postby LTLakerFan on Sat Mar 07, 2009 8:11 am

I don't understand. From the lineups posted for days (without remembering them) yes it was obvious he would shortly move past Parish into the 18th slot. But then this morning the L.A. Times paper has him 23rd with the top 25 being:

1. Kareem 38,387
2. K. Malone 36,928
3. M. Jordan 32,292
4. Chamberlain 31,419
5. J. Erving 30,026
6. M. Malone 29,580
7. D. Issel 27,482
8. E. Hayes 27,313
9. Shaq 27,287
10. H. Olajuwon 26,946
11. O. Robertson 26,710
12. D. Wilkins 26,668
13. G. Gervin 26,595
14. J. Havlicek 26,395
15. A. English 25,613
16. R. Miller 25,279
R. Barry 25,279
18. J. West 25,192
19. A. Gilmore 24,941
20. P. Ewing 24,815
21. A. Iverson 23,960
22. C. Barkley 23,757
23. Kobe Bryant 23,354
24. R. Parish 23,334
25. A. Dantley 23,177

Is it something to do with players who began in the ABA being left off the list where Kobe is listed as 18th now?
