Points: Kobe 4th All-Time; passes Wilt / MJ next

Re: Points: Kobe 6th All-Time; 1168 to pass Shaq

Shaq is literally on his last leg....Kobe has about a half season's worth of scoring to catch him, and he'll chip away at the difference a fair amount on the 20 or so remaining games for this season. So assuming a full regular season is played int he fall, Kobe should be eclipsing Shaq sometime around January 2012.

Kobe is one of the most Love/Hated player in the league. He gets booed for 3 quarters then the away crowd chants M-V-P!! Never really seen or heard In a while since you know who. I alot of so called Laker fans dislike Kobe because he ran Shaq out if town,Payton & Malone helped him but so what. When Kobe was cleared for the bull**** rape charge, no apologizes no nothing. I like Kobe because it's a me against the world mentality and racism showed it's ugly face. If and when he passes MJ in the scoring list and ties his rings what are the haters gonna say then.

Well, yeah. Kobe passed a ton. Jordan did, too.

Julius Erving was in the crowd at the Atlanta game yesterday. When John Ireland interviewed him, Dr. J talked about how great of a player Moses Malone was, then he praised Kobe and called him awesome. That's respect right there. I can't wait to see what Kobe and the other NBA players will say when he passes Shaq on the scoring list. :jam2:
Thanks for the sig, Jr. Kobe.

Kobe passed Iverson while he was technically still in the league last year, I believe. Although Iverson came into the league in the same draft class as Kobe.

Kobe passed by KG a long time ago, and KG came in the year before Kobe. Besides Shaq and KG, there are just handful of guys left in the league that came in before 1996. McDyess is one of them, I think. But there's no one obviously that Kobe hasn't surpassed....except Shaq.

I don't understand what you mean...

its not like every player is a huge scorer...there are SO MANY players Kobe has surpassed in his first few NBA seasons...and not just Kobe...don't you think MJ surpassed a billion players in the 80s who were still playing? it has happened so often, its impossible to count.

hmm skewed my logic there :P

I meant to compare like HoF scale like top 20. like shaq started before kobe, is among the top scorers of all time. but to have a player like kobe, do it a lesser amount of time in the same time that shaq has been playing...

idk. brain fart.

Shaq could have bought himself some more time if he could only hit some freethrows. LOL.

If Shaq, with his 52% career FT%, had managed even a 75% freethrow rate, he could have padded his lead with over an entire season's worth of points. Shaq for his career has left over 5000 pts at the freethrow line.

Do Playoff points count towards this total or is this just regular season only?

Did you mean that Shaq has left over 5,000pts at the free throw line or that the scoring list only counts regular season points

It would seem strange if playoff points were not counted towards a player's career points. Then again, the regular things would keep things "equal" for everyone, but still...

If they did include playoffs points it would be in Kobe's favor, although not by much. Kobe is currently 4th all time in playoff points.

1. Michael Jordan* 5987
2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar* 5762
3. Shaquille O'Neal 5248
4. Kobe Bryant 5052

Assuming 20 games minimum in the playoffs if we go all the way, and 25 pts per (low end), thats 500 points per year Kobe would gain. He's likely pass MJ in next year's playoffs.

If we include ABA points as well, the all time regular season point total looks like this:

1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar* 38387
2. Karl Malone* 36928
3. Michael Jordan* 32292
4. Wilt Chamberlain* 31419
5. Julius Erving* 30026
6. Moses Malone* 29580
7. Shaquille O'Neal 28590
8. Dan Issel* 27482
9. Kobe Bryant 27423

Kobe would still likely wind up in the same spot either way ( about 3rd all time when its all said and done)

I don't think he'll catch Shaq this year but next season is definitely a shot.

All Kobe has to do is average 68.7 points per game for the rest of the season and he'll tie Shaq.

I'm happy to see that in the likelihood of a shortened season, Kobe will still most likely pass Snaq on the list. He'll end up just shy of 28k this year.
