Points: Kobe 4th All-Time; passes Wilt / MJ next

He can do it in 5 games....score 50 4x, and an 81 pt. game. He has done it before :man9: of course I'll be the 1st to crucify him if we lost because of this.

Kobe will pass Jordan during the 2013-2014 season and he needs 2 or 3 additional postseasons to be number 1 in the total points category, he's short of 708 points

That milestone game is coming soon. We should mark it as a L.

If he hadn't crapped out so badly in the second half last night I was sure he was on pace for 50+.

You wonder, was he gunning so hard last night because he is aware of this milestone and _really_ wants to pass Shaq more than he's wanted to pass other players?

I'm pretty sure Jordan is the ultimate target that Kobe really wants to pass. When the legends are compared, Kobe wants as many checks on his side of the ledger as possible.

I'm not taking anything away from what Kobe is doing, but haven't these guys hit these milestones playing fewer seasons, which seems like a better feat? Idk, seeing what you guys think.

^^ they didn't come in the league at 17 and have to make the extreme jump from HS game to the pro game. Additionally, Kobe was the first guard to make the transition. Not easy, which explains his 7 ppg his first year.

Kobe came into the league at 17, sitting on the bench most of his rookie year. Then he was in the shadow of Shaq as the #2 for a few years after that.

WHile Shaq and MJ may have hit these milestones in less years, Kobe did it at a younger age.

Kobe started seven of his first 150 games in the NBA and averaged 11.7 points and has averaged 27.4 points since. Kobe passed Dominique and moved into 10th place in fgm in the loss to Utah and needs 32 more makes to become the 10th player in NBA history to score 10,000 baskets.

Some other Kobe stats that some may find interesting:
44 more steals and he passes Magic to become the Lakers leader
30 more rebounds and he'll reach 6,000 for his career
143 more made ft and he'll pass Jordan for 4th on that career list

I kinda want Kobe to score less than 24 (but have the Lakers win in Philly) just so he can pass Shaq on Thursday on TNT (in Boston). :man9:

Slava laughed at the suggestion his skills might be affected by the down time. "Are you kidding?" he said. "Basketball is like ball. It's all a circle."

There's a real chance he won't break it in Philly. He hasn't been scoring very high lately.

Would be nice to see him break it on TNT.

Congrats Kobe. I remember watching you back in '96, and while I knew you'd be special I had no idea just how great you'd be. Great performance after great performance. Keep em coming
