EL SEGUNDO - The Los Angeles Lakers have signed center Eric Boateng and guard Darius Johnson-Odom, it was announced today. Per team policy, terms of the agreements were not released.

Boateng, a free agent center out of Arizona State University, has split time over the last three seasons playing for the Idaho Stampede and the Austin Toros of the NBA’s Development League in addition to playing internationally for the Greek Basket League team Peristeri and the New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig in Germany. The 6-10 center, who played one year (2005-06) at Duke before transferring to Arizona State University (2007-10), finished his collegiate career averaging 4.3 points and 3.5 rebounds in 13.8 minutes over 116 games. Born in London, Boateng is also a member of the Great Britain national basketball team.

Johnson-Odom, the 55th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, was acquired by the Lakers from the Dallas Mavericks on draft night. The 6-2 guard out of Marquette appeared in four games for the Lakers last season, where he totaled four rebounds and one assist in six minutes. Johnson-Odom also played in 13 games for the Los Angeles D-Fenders where he averaged 21.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 39.8 minutes. After being waived by the Lakers in January, the Raleigh, North Carolina native spent the remainder of the 2012-13 season playing in Russia for BC Spartak Saint Petersburg.

Most recently, Johnson-Odom participated in the 2013 NBA Summer League games held in Orlando and Las Vegas. In three games as a member of the Boston Celtics summer league entry in Orlando, Johnson-Odom averaged 10.3 points and 1.3 assists in 23.7 minutes. In six games played as a member of Denver’s summer league team in Las Vegas, Johnson-Odom averaged 7.2 points and 3.0 assists in 15.8 minutes.

The Lakers training camp roster now stands at 18 players.

we finally got Odom!!!!!!!!!!!!! :man1:
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

I'd love if DJO came in and took Meeks' job.

I like you DJO, but you and the rest of the guys we signed today are just camp fodder.

I am in way as well. Now that expectations are lower, it will be fun to see if this crew can surprise people provided the core group stay healthy and a full training camp gets them acclimated with each other along with D'Antoni's game plans. Here's hoping to that Rambis implements a defensive scheme that hides the weaknesses of some and takes advantage of the younger players.

I had this weird nightmare were we got Dwight Howard, our expectations were sky high, but Dwight ended up playing awful, everyone was getting injured and Kobe even ruptured his Achilles. Afterwards we were in the Playoffs with Morris and Goudelock in the starting lineup.... damn, it was awful.

^LOL still hard to believe we started Goudelock and Morris in a playoff game. Truly was a nightmare season.
Every time I begin to ask, "Is he really as great as I think he is?" ...He proves that he is.
Every time I begin to wonder...He proves it...That is why I won't lose hope in him.

Remember the last time the Lakers opened the season with two rookies in the starting lineup?
Without looking up the internet, name the year and the two rookies.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I know NVE and George Lynch were drafted the same year. I know NVE always started so I'll go with that, 1995 I think.

3 parts to the answer; you only got 1 right.

So it wasn't NVE and George Lynch that started? Did I get the year wrong? OK 1994, Van Exel and Lynch starting.

Still 1 part of 3 correct. I'll give you a hint, Van Exel is the part you got right.

It couldn't have been Eddie could it? I guess it must not have been George Lynch since Havasu was on the team at the time and would have started. I thought Eddie joined the Lakers a year before NVE.

I have no clue to be honest.

Lucky for you I'm a nice guy. Here you go:

the year: 1993 (93-94 season)
the rookie starters on opening night: Van Exel and Trevor Wilson

hard to believe, eh? here's the back story as I remember it: Lynch was picked ahead of Van Exel that year, but came off the bench. Wilson was originally drafted by another team a few years before but didn't catch on and ended up playing in Europe for at least a couple of years before signing with the Lakers in 1993 as free agent. Wilson started at PF as Campbell and Rambis (who had also just signed to rejoin the Lakers) were injured. Opening night starting lineup was Threatt, Van Exel, Wilson, Worthy and Divac. Worthy was a shadow of his old self due to tendinitis, essentially limping through the entire season while averaging just 10ppg and being a human revolving door on defense. It was painful watching that, knowing how good he had been. It would be his last year. Van Exel had a bang bang debut and the team beat Phoenix that night. I loved Van Exel's spunk from that night on. Unfortunately of course the season went way downhill from there. And Wilson didn't last long, getting waived several weeks later; I don't remember why, think it was lack of playing time since Campbell and Rambis would have squeezed him out. That might have been *the* highlight of his career, starting for his hometown team Lakers on opening night.

Last note: Lake Havasu joined the Lakers the following year along with Peeler. I really enjoyed watching that team.

I don't remember Trevor Wilson at all. I do remember Worthy dragging his leg around the court all season. That was sad to see. I also remember Rambis suiting up that season. I think he was an assistant coach prior to that and he suited up because there weren't enough bodies on the floor.

My recollection of that season is quite vague. I must have been a very forgettable year.

Rambis the assistant coach who put on his sneakers for one last season happened the following year, not that year.

You're right, it was a forgettable year. First time since 1976 that the team missed the playoffs. The team would not miss the playoffs again until the 04-05 season. When you think about it, it's a pretty incredible record for the franchise: missed the playoffs just 4 times since moving to LA. (75, 76, 94, 05) Been nearly 40 years since they last missed two years in a row. Just wow... Fewest wins ever was 32 for the 75 team, how many times have the Clippers had less then 32 wins?

I'd say going into last season most Laker Fans were excited and thought we'd cheated fate again and gotten a contender... only to end in disappointment.

This year has gone about as expected. We're bad but no one thought we were a playoff team....
