It's honestly one of the most perplexing things I can think of in recent NBA history. We went 28-12 but never really broke into that elite tier. For f***'s sake we won more games than OKC and San Antonio for half the season and yet we still never looked like the team everyone envisioned before the season started, always squeaking by against teams and blowing double digit leads to scrub teams on a routine basis. It's amazing that this happened because it doesn't make sense AT ALL.

Whoops, how do I change vote? Meant to pick Lakers in six.
In the real world, the day Steph awoke at 9 a.m. to begin his Ustream show, Kobe Bryant probably awoke at the same time, even if it was 6 a.m. in California, and lifted weights.

Only two teams have ever finished a season with at least 45 wins after starting 15-21 or worse, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

haha yes I saw you post that on psd. Pretty crazy stuff and a lot of unanswered questions if this team was truly healthy. :bang:

Too bad we had Kobe for all of those games.

If we can get Nash, and a healthy Hill back, we might just be okay afterall. We played most of our games with a burnt out Kobe, no Nash, and no Hill. Gasol and Dwight also missed time. If we can get a full roster with Kobe being the only one out, we might just have a chance to make some noise after all.

Kobe or not we weren't winning games by huge margins anyway. Every win seemingly takes everything this team has to win. It's a recipe for disaster if you want to contend, but this team isn't. They are a really good crunch time team so they might be able to get a few wins in these playoffs, but next season things have to change. You can't be a good team just narrowly escaping with wins. That 28-12 record has quite a bit of luck behind it and also a slightly easier schedule.

WOW

LAL did it with D: they held HOU to a single FG in overtime, in 7 attempts. LAL made 3 of 9 FG's, and both teams made 3 of 4 FT's.

Yep.

Hell a lot of us die-hard fans thought that we wouldn't make the playoffs. And we're SUPPOSED to be irrationally optimistic. :man10:

They aren't as invested as us so of course they thought we wouldn't make it.

I'm shocked by those numbers as well. Mainly because, as you said, we never looked like what OKC, Clippers, Spurs LOOKED like to start the season. Remember how dominating they looked? I guess that's why some people say stats don't tell the whole picture.

Well I'm a Laker fan, so yes. :man10:

Look, the Spurs are a great team, but they've been really struggling lately. Their not quite healthy and their team is in a bit of flux. If we play the way we have to end the season, we can beat this team.

We finished 20-8 (70+%)
We finished the season 8-1 (89%)
We finished winning 5 in a row.

The Spurs finished the season with a whimper going 3-7 over their last 10.

we have the momentum, we have the juice. I don't think this is going to be easy in any way, but we absolutely have a shot at this.

These are some good points. Parker and Manu's injuries obviously have had a huge impact to the Spurs and that's part of the reason their second half of the season has been, under par.

Having said all that, those are all reasons why we CAN win.

I wish there was a way we could measure the confidence level amongst us fans that we WILL win. Obviously, you can't ASK people how confident they are but, I can definitely say while my confidence is not particularly high (I wouldn't bet much money on us winning the series esp without Kobe), it is higher playing the Spurs than the Thunder.

something happens in the playoffs. If you win a series, it means things are clicking and your chances go up. I believe if the lakers beat the Spurs, it will mean their D has stepped up and people are finding their roles in a Kobe-less world. I think they would have a chance to go further.

It all starts on Sunday. Hope they can focus on their strengths and the mere task of getting back on transition D will make a HUGE difference in the POs. Slower games, rest between games. The players really have to focus on getting back. Those 8-10 points a night is usually the margin of losses/victory at the end of the game.

well i guess the lakers are the third team now
