Gay's advanced numbers aren't all that great, and he's definitely not worth the contract he's getting. He's an athletic scorer... and that's where it stops. Basically a 6-8 mil value player. He's probably the 4th best player on the grizzlies at the moment, after Gasol, Zach and Conley. His overall impact doesn't match Tony Allen's great D either.

Pau for Gay would be awesome, but I still think we'd be better off trading Pau for a package of supporting players than one quasi-"star" (Gay, Smith).

I am sure you are.. Come on who doesn't like Gay? Gay is everything most of you guys have been screaming for especially for Pau. Aren't you one of the posters who wants to get rid of the "soft" Euro for a big strong attacker who isn't afraid to go all in? Now you have Gay available and you're not a big fan? Here I would of thought most would be a Huge Gay Guy after slamming Pau so much.

Oh well, I like Rudy thats for sure.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

By the way, this deal must either have been discussed or is being discussed. Rival executives dont just throw out deals like this and say "seems like a swell idea"

Usually they heard about it one way or another. Now if it's current or past is another question

Nash/Kobe/Gay/Clark/Dwight spaces the floor for us & that would mean we have 3 young guys in our starting line up with Clark/Gay/Howard that's with Metta still coming off the bench. I love this move! Do it Mitch! Gay could also serve as a Durant stopper, well, he has a better chance than Metta with his length & quickness...

why does boston give up pierce? he's like dirk in dallas: worth as much off the court (as a franchise icon) as on it.

Lol, Boston 1st class organization. Trade the face of your franchise ever since Bird retired. Its like Lakers trading Kobe, but then again... Jim Buss is running the show.

These two sentences are so full of wrong....

Bird compared to Pierce and then Pierce compared to Kobe......... ugh..

As for the first face of the franchise since Bird.... Reggie Lewis says hi......

^ This! Pierce looks like he's done - at least on defense. On offense, still capable of big shots, but does benefit from a good number of "respect" calls every came.

Reggie Lewis? The guy who died? Played 5 seasons? PP is 2nd all time in Boston scoring and played 3rd most team games in Celtics history. I would say that the Bird comparison is more accurate than ur Lewis one.

Your opinions are always enlightening.

Don't take my word for it, ask Memphis. They don't miss a beat when he's out because he's not an impactful player. This board seems to fall in love with high volume inefficient chuckers. Gay gives us athleticism which would be nice but not at the cost of his toxic contract and giving up our only backup C in the process (who is actually playing well in his new role).

I'd rather just accept whatever we get out of this season rather than make a pointless move like this.

I really like Gay. But seeing Pau kill it these last couple games off the bench is making me second guess everything...

Is it possible he can stay motivated?

I think Pierce might still be a better overall defender than Gay.

Mitch was absolutely right when he said it was all effort.

Nobody thought we could be this bad with the players on our team, but they have been collectively playing like doo-doo and not giving their best effort. When they do we blow teams out period.
Before long, someone recognized Phil Jackson sitting in the front seat, and then the rocks began to fly. Revelers pelted the bus and shook it, mocking the Lakers at their lowest moment.

It was painful,” Lakers forward Pau Gasol(notes) said. “It is a feeling that I want to keep in my mind for every single minute that I’m out there playing them.

Then you haven't seen him this season. He's awful.

When Kobe doesn't try on defense, that's Pierce going full speed.

Lewis was the face of the franchise for those 5 years.... he was a very good player and every bit as good as Pierce in his last 3 years. He had some amazing games shutting down Michael Jordan....

I Bias and he had lived the early 90's would have been very different for the C's.....

Paul Pierce may be second in scoring but the C's history has few high scorers. Their have had great "Teams" that have yielded their successes. Pierce has been a consistently good scorer but he's not that complete of a player.... and definitely not as good or anywhere near as good as Bird was.
