"The Los Angeles Lakers have signed rookie forward/center Robert Sacre.

Sacre, a 7-0 forward/center out of Gonzaga, was selected by the Lakers in the second round (60th overall pick) in the 2012 NBA draft. Sacre finished his career with the Bulldogs ranked second all-time in school history in career blocks (186) while averaging 9.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 135 games. As a senior, Sacre was named the 2012 WCC Defensive Player of the Year as well as an All-WCC First-Team honoree while averaging 11.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks."

I'm guessing it's non guaranteed for now, but he's got the inside track to make the team and I've been saying it all along. Another big 7 foot body, young, fairly athletic, a good defender, and CHEAP. He's the perfect fit for what the Lakers need right now.

Better than Somogyi that's for damn sure.

What about our other rookie Lamar Erving Johnson-Odom? We signing him too or is he going to the D-League?

it'll be good to have another 7 footer who just go after EVERYTHING.

i like him but his shot release is soooo slow! but i guess his job would be a jordan hill role. i hope hes there at the start of the season. 60th pick has more to prove to than anyone else.

Think more like DJ Mbenga.

We've continued dancing around this, but I say was DJ Mbenga any better? Maybe, but it wouldn't be by a whole lot. The point is, he's size and size is always helpful. He may not be anything special, but we don't need special from our 3rd string Center.

Was DJ better? Hmm, good question, in a lot of ways no, but in some ways I'd say yes. At least DJ was huge physically and could put a body on guys, hustled like crazy for boards and to attempt blocks. But ya DJ was a career 3rd stringer, barely played and deservedly so, I don't even see that much in Sacre. We could do worse, but I also think we could do better, pretty much any 7 footer or close to it that's played in the NBA at least a season already would be better IMO. Like I said though I hope I'm wrong, I'd love to find a decent 3rd string C for cheap like this, just everything I saw of this guy so far was baaaad.

I think DJ probably has the higher motor because he's more athletic. That was one thing DJ had for sure was athleticism. That's not to say Sacre isn't athletic, he's actually pretty mobile for a 7 footer, but he wasn't in DJ's class.

But Sacre as actually almost exactly the same size. DJ was listed as 7 feet 255 and Sacre is listed as 7 feet 260. DJ was also pretty damn buff, but Sacre is still a big body. I'm not sure why you don't see a career 3rd stringer in this guy, I do. With 7 feet, you don't need much and he seems to have a nice work ethic and attitude. He may not stick in the league, but he's got a chance to and with this team we need some big bodies.

I think it'll benefit Dwight having to work against someone like him in practice just because he's a legitimate 7 footer with defensive tendencies. Dwight will eat him up, but he'll be good practice for the big guys in the league.

If he can be like DJ Mbenga we struck gold, never hurts to have a big body to throw out there for fouls.

Big men Robert Sacre and Jeff Somogyi showed themselves capable of playing with the more experienced bigs on L.A.’s roster, and will have a chance to show what they can do in training camp. Each 7-footer did some scoring, some boarding and some blocking in the scrimmage. Making the roster isn’t going to be easy for any of the younger players, but the opportunity will be there.

It's been said many times by others, but man I wish I were 7 foot! How incredible would it be just to be the 14/15th guy on the Lakers roster?
