Rooks, Pike and Lue

Rooks, Pike and Lue

Postby clublakers on Tue Jul 15, 2003 6:30 am

With the addition of Malone and Payton, the Lakers will have a 12-man roster. General manager Mitch Kupchak said he will add one more player. Center Sean Rooks and guard Tyronn Lue, both former Lakers, have been mentioned as possible candidates, as has Clippers guard Eric Piatkowski.

Sounds like old news to me... I can't imagine either ex-laker Lue or Rooks would be seriously considered when an additional spot could be used to bring in youth. Pike makes a little more sense though just for the sake of opening up the middle for our two biggs.

Yes, with Payton, Pargo, and Fisher... We don't need another point guard.

But Rooks and/or Pike would be great! I've been saying we should get Piatkowski since the day the Lakers lost (Lakers Reloaded Editorial) I think we need to clinch that consistent outside shooter, and we'll be nearly unstoppable...

I think were fine at point guard and Pargo looks to be developing real well.

Pike would be a nice addition but I would be concerned that he would take playing time from Rush. I think Rush has promise but need the time.

I wasn't a real fan when Rooks was on our team a few years ago. He never got off the bench and that was when we ran Del Harris' standard nba offense. I am not sure he would be able to grasp triangle. I would suspect that any backup center minutes will go to either Malone or Slava.

I would like the Lakers to add Leon Smith who seems to be doing a good job in the summer league. I would stash him on the IR when Foxy comes back. He may be a bit of a head case but given his performance perhaps he has matured. If he has, I think Phil and his coaching staff will be able to get the most of Leon. He is extremely athletic ... just needs to get his head straight.

Rooks maybe but he will ask for more money and i dont think the Lakers will fork that money up. They just need to resign Horry. If they can get Rooks at 1.5 mil then i think thats a good risk to sign him for, but anything more will be too risky.

I'm leaning towards Pike...by a big margin.

We don't Rooks since we have enough big man.
Same thing can be said about Lue.

We are in definite need of a 3 point shooter, who can stretch the D for Shaq and the Mailman down low. Pike is the obvious choice.

Plus I love his nickname....."Pike"

I dunno, Kobe will spend time at the SF as well, so it would be nice to have two back-up guards.

Agreed thought that another big body is necessary. With the B Skinner agreeing to go to Milwaukee Mason might become expendable to them via a sign and trade... but I think he's got a heavy contract. Although Strickland is supposed to be Milwaukee bound as well, so DFish won't have as much value to the Bucks.

I'd rather have Trent though. Can he play the SF?

...I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

I think so......much like Corliss Williamson........What about trading Rick Fox, he has publicly stated that if he is traded he will retire......teams needing cap space for next season (Memphis) might me enticed by Rick poss retiring after a trade, may give a decent big man (Lorenzen Wright, Stomile Swift)???????? just a thought

We are not concerned at the specific position Pike plays. We want him on the team to fulfill a specific role for us. As our 3 point specialist. Who cares if he's a shooting guard. We are in need of a person that can consistently hit a 3 pointer.

True dat in this day in age there are not position players just players prime example with Steve Smith playing pg in his early days in Miami. Pike in my mind could even start at the sf spot if he wanted to.
