2 guys who can just flat out score off the bench in jaimison and Barbosa

I have been thinking the same thing over the last 48 hours. I have preferred Meeks all along but even though Barbosa is more of a hit and miss/turnover machine at times he can definitely change the game with his speed and the ability to create his own shot.

Same here. I still prefer Meeks, but Barbosa would still be a fantastic pickup if he could make it here.

I forgot to post this from a couple of hours ago, just shows you how much payroll we have going forward :man4: :man4: :

Ken Berger ‏@KBergCBS

Based on $75M tax line, Lakers would owe $34.3M in tax for those six players at $92M alone. That's $126M for half a team.

We have to be the #1 destination for nearly every free agent, even over Miami. Hopefully we're able to get Meeks/Barbosa.

Bryant: 27.85
Gasol: 19
Howard: 19.54
Nash: 8.9
Artest: 7.23

That's our starters and significant contracts (next is Blake with 4 million). That total is 82.52 for the 5 of them (86.52 with Blake). That's a tax hit of about 7.52 million (11.52 with Blake). So for our top 5 that's a total bill of 90.04 million (94.04 with Blake). Next season however, will be much more penalizing.

Steve Kyler ‏@stevekylerNBA
The Howard deal is paving the way for a few more transactions once the dust settles... Hearing that Lakers forward Devin Ebanks will sign his Qualifying Offer sheet and return to the Lakers... Hearing Lakers are likely going to land Jodie Meeks when the dust clears.

we still have to sign Ebanks for $1 million. but glad we traded McBob so that should get rid of some $. hope we can somehow get Meeks. I don't see us getting both him & Barbosa.

our roster will prob be:

Nash/Blake/Morris
Kobe/Meeks/Glock
MWP/Ebanks
Pau/Jaminson
Howard/Hill

DJO & Sacre --> D-League

That's one hell of a team :jam2:

Bench isn't half bad either if Jaminson Hill & Meeks do what they do and if Ebanks improves his shot (defense already pretty good but could always improve. idk about the 2 new guys of they'll be moved

Good News, but I find it funny that that Steve Kyler guy over the last couple of days has been shooting down all of the reports that the Lakers would like to had either Meeks or Barbosa and now he's reporting that we're close.

^ Perhaps he's sharing sources with his fellow hoopsworld writer Alex Kennedy now? Kennedy got the info that Duhon/Clark were part of the trade before everyone else.
Marc J. Spears ‏@SpearsNBAYahoo
Next up for @Lakers is finding Kobe backup who is a proven vet scorer for minimum. Keep eye on Kenyon Martin as possible big addition, too.

Looks like Kenyon Martin is also a possibility? The Lakers are going all in despite being in salary tax hell. :man4:

Dang. if we signed Meeks and Martin, we'd be done. We might even be able to live with Blake/Duhon as backups if that happened.

For sure...

Nash / Meeks
Kobe / Ebanks
MWP / Jamison
Pau / Martin
D12 / Hill

We can manage without them....

If we signed Meeks or Barbosa, I think we have the best team ever assembled on paper. Adding Martin would also help with that, but our primary concern should be our backcourt. Whether they perform up to their potential or not, the Lakers would be the best team anyone could ask for... ever.

Nash/Blake/Duhon/Morris
Bryant/Meeks
Artest/Ebanks/Clark
Gasol/Jamison/Martin
Howard/Hill

I mean damn. Our bench is basically good enough to beat the Bobcats, Pistons, and Kings. Our starting lineup is riddled with MVPs, DPOYs, and All-Star appearances. We're not the fastest team, but defensively we should be INSANE in our starting 5. Nash isn't a great perimeter defender, but advanced stats show he's a good team guy. Artest and Howard are both game changers on the defensive end. Gasol is an alright defender and then Kobe is still there. He can shut down anyone on any given night and considering we've got so much offensive firepower, some nights he can take it easy on that end.

If you try to play LA in a half court set... you're doomed. You're doomed I say.

Tax means nothing if you can win. I know, that's a big if, but still... all that money will be coming back.

That would put us at 15, if I recall correctly, Mitch likes to leave one spot open as a just in case sort of thing. Unless we can clear another spot by some how getting rid of Blake or Duhon, I don't see it happening.

Morris and Goudelock have guaranteed contracts if I'm not mistaken... Are you saying we should buy them out in favor of also signing Delfino?

With Meeks on board we just need a backup SF and we're good to go.
