Roster Improvement: Free Agents Now and Later?

Gotta agree with this. Don't see us making a move. At least not immediately.

Oh yes it is because Lakers don't get crippled anymore in luxury taxes because waiving them will cost money I mean there is a reason why the Lakers never do that.

^I would classify Morris, DJO, Clark, Duhon, and Blake as the worst of the bunch. Sacre is a question mark, but he's a center who played relatively well during preseason, so he's a keeper for now. DJO would probably be the easiest to cut ties with, but his athleticism is intriguing. You could describe Duhon and Blake's contracts as "toxic" so I think they're here to stay(Blake's bum [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] should've been amnestied). So that leaves us down to Clark, and Morris. Morris is owed 1.44 million over two year, and Clark is owed 2.4 over the next year years. So I think it's between Morris and DJO.

I'm not a fan of Delonte's antics, but we have absolutely no Steve Nash insurance. He goes down, and it's over. A gritty player like Delonte is just the guy we need for 10-20 minutes a game. Good shooter, good defender, can handle the rock, and isn't afraid. I remember watching him play as a Cav during the Lebron years. A lot of the guys were playing scared in the playoffs(Mo Williams i'm looking at you). But I remember Delonte was one of the only guys who went down fighting. Is it a risk? of coure! But I think it's a bigger risk going into the season with point guard nearing his 40's, and not even having a serviceable player behind him.

I think it's going to be DJO because he is non-guaranteed. Also using the amnesty on Blake is a waste of time and won't save us that much money compare to using it on Metta.

He won't be for long if he has a lousy season again, and also we need to get younger there as well, but truthfully I don't think the Lakers will use the amnesty clause at all.

it's just one of those forced perspective things. if things are bad enough, any improvement will look like great improvement. and the backup point guard situation is less-than-rosy right now

personally, i'm not sold on west. not cuz of his basketball skills, but because of his unpredictable mental issues

I like us to get Livingston......Hou just cut him, much more of a true pg and great sz@ 6'6.....just eat the ontract and waive morris. Livingston is what we are hoping Morris could someday be but I doubt that happens.

If Delonte clears waivers we should absolutely sign him. Frank is right we have no one who can come in and step in if Nash goes down. We'd be absolutely nuts to pass him on West.

Would be nice to get an upgrade, West or whoever, and even better if we cut get rid of one of our terrible PGs in the process. A guy can dream huh.

I'm going to be highly agitated with the FO if we go into the season with Blake, Duhon, & Morris. It was a mistake to let Glock go instead of taking the hit on Morris' contract, now we have a chance to cut Morris & sign a proven combo guard in D. West. You don't sink 90M into payroll & then throw your bench out the window over a 500k guaranteed contract. Hopefully they make the right call, or we somehow trade one or all of those 3.

I understand it isn't just 500k, but the point I'm trying to make is why make that an issue when you're already spending so much? It just doesn't add up. I guess as a fan I'm looking for the easy way out to complete our bench. Mitch has the task of dealing one of those 3 bums & getting us a competent backup PG while also shedding salary. I know Mitch is capable of anything. But it wouldn't kill us to make the easy move that's right in front of our faces sometimes.
