I'd trade Pau+Ebanks+Morris for a starting stretch 4 + a backup sharpshooting SF + some picks and maybe junk/filler. I want to see if MDA+Nash can rejuvinate Pau's sack. I'm doubtful.

Houston has always had a crush on Pau. Maybe Parsons and Delfino?

I'd give Pau a chance till the all star break only to see how he fits in with Dantony. Smith might fit at the defensive end but not sure how he would fit on the offensive end.

I wish the Wolves still had a chubby for him to pair up with Ricky

At one point, didn't the Wolves want to pair Pau with Rubio and Love?

Yes, they did. There were several rumors floating around last year regarding Pau and the T-Wolves. I believe Derrick Williams, the Wolves 2nd overall pick was said to be apart of that trade. It would be interesting to see if they would offer some sort of package for Pau? Then again, who would we want from their roster? Williams, though he's a little too undersized for me can play a stretch 4 PF to provide more spacing, Berea is interesting; he's up upgrade as a backup PG, can shoot, create for himself & others, etc. IDK. Interesting, though...

Gasol played great D when he won his first ring against orlando where he would really play D and go straight up to contest shots. Ever since then, he now only puts one arm up in the air, the 2nd arm to protect his gut and jumps backward to avoid the physical contact. That is the only problem i have with Pau. His defense is like a scared chicken sh..... Contest a shot by going straight up with both arms up. It would make a huge difference. Start watching for this. You will notice it too for every player that penetrates the lane, you will undoubtedly see Gasol fade jump back.

Well, we could admit that our team is built to win RIGHT NOW, and dump our young projects that aren't working out. We could release Darius Morris, Darius Johnson-Odom, Devin Ebanks and Earl Clark (4 players everyone will admit are the worst wastes of space on our bench...primarily because THEY CAN'T SHOOT) and bring in Delonte West, Michael Redd, Josh Howard and Kenyon Martin to replace them.

All four players ARE available for the VET MIN, and ALL would IMMEDIATELY be quality back up options at their respective positions...and all would be replacing virtual DEAD WEIGHT on our roster. Our team would look like this:

PG: Steve Nash / Delonte West / Chris Duhon / Steve Blake
SG: Kobe Bryant / Michael Redd / Jodie Meeks
SF: Ron Artest / Antawn Jamison / Josh Howard
PF: Pau Gasol / Kenyon Martin
C: Dwight Howard / Jordan Hill / Robert Sacre

There are NO holes in that roster. Everyone in the backcourt can stretch the floor, and everyone in the front court can defend, rebound and finish around the basket. Meeks can try to take his minutes back from a 33 year old Michael Redd...who looked good in Phoenix's D'Antoni style offense (in limited minutes) last season. Both Meeks and Redd can stroke the outside J, I just trust Redd to do it more consistently given his history and the confidence of a veteran knowing he will get as many open shots as he can handle on this roster.

Delonte West can D it up, and hit big shots from the PG position. Josh Howard can be the ANTI Ebanks, an older, more experienced SF who can stretch the floor and play under control. Kenyon Martin gives us a QUANTAM LEAP over the useless Earl Clark, who couldn't crack the 4 ppg plateau in his all but illustrious career. Essentially, Duhon and Blake become the Dariuses on our roster...PGs who can't get any playing time. The HUGE difference between the young Dariuses and Duhon/Blake, though, is that the veterans can both knock down outside shots like pros, and the young guys can't even shoot at a D-League level.

These moves are relatively cheap, and I believe SIGNIFICANTLY upgrade our options and versatility coming off the bench. I would pull the trigger on these moves RIGHT NOW if I were Mitch.
Nash + Howard + Bryant + Artest + Gasol + Jamison + Meeks - Hill - Clark = 33-31? In Playoff race but lots of work left to save season, Lakers could be biggest sports bust of all time. Phil IS NOT walking through that door! D'Antoni still won't play more than 8. Dwight Howard's FT% sinking fast. Kobe's working too hard. Pau cap trade? Clark 2 Expensive 2 keep? MWP amnesty? Projected '12-'13 Record 43-39. Most...Disappointing...Ever!

watching all the other good teams in the league I know we need someone young athletic full of energy to come off the bench and score. we have Jordan hill but he can't score. we needed sessions just like the clips have Bledsoe. just someone whose fearless and can do somedage. I think this team would become very deadly with a guy like delonte who can set others up and also score. the guy has something to prove to everyone and the league and I think would stay out of trouble and just do work.

sessions should have been that guy and FO should have made sure to resign him at all costs bc he's balling in that backup pg spot which is what he is. we'd be deadly with Nash and then when he sits having delonte come in. hope were not done with the roster bc he'd be huge and would easily compliment Jamison and meeks

also if we're permanently playing Jamison as mettas backup then we should get Kenyon Martin as paus backup. he'd give him plenty of rest and it's not like Pau is doing much aggressive scoring when he's in so when Pau isn't in he can play with Jordan hill or Dwight and that energy on the boards wouldn't stop all game long.

with this new system were gunna need a quicker PG and delonte would be our best bet. i like duhon and maybe well see something different when dantoni plays him as the primary backup to nash. but i think bringing in delonte would make the D have to react to him and he can get guys like meeks and jamison going more than they are now.

IIRC, Pau shoots a decently higher percentage from the outside than Smoove. I've been using NBA Hotspots (yeah little old) but it can get the point across if their stats haven't changed too much. Too bad the website has been loading slower and slower lately. :man5:

I'm sure people know by now...Josh Howard to Minny, Will Conroy got the cut.
Shaun Livingston to Washington, Jannero Pargo gets the cut.

Pau for Smith...probably not happening via ESPN:

Sources say that the Hawks, at present, have no interest in parting with Josh Smith and Kyle Korver for Gasol. Or even Smith and lesser parts for Gasol.

Big shocker, Pau's value probably isn't at an all time low, but it has to be pretty close.

Positions can obviously change between now and the Feb. 21 trade deadline, but sources maintain that Atlanta has not been enticed in the least by the prospect of parting with the 26-year-old Smith -- even as he heads into unrestricted free agency -- for the 32-year-old Gasol. The Hawks, for the record, have also been telling interested teams that they value Smith and what he offers as a hybrid forward in an Eastern Conference that's generally been getting smaller.

Also in other news Pietrus wants the mini-MLE amount of 2.5M.

Recall that Meeks was signed with part of our mini-MLE (1.5M). So unless Pietrus reduces his asking price, we can't get him.

The only way he gets that amount is if he signs with a non contender.

Josh Smith is a free agent at the end of this season. Wherever Josh wants to go - he will go.

If we get Josh Smith - sign and trade in the offseason for Pau or they do it at the break and we have to hope we can keep Smithy poo and Dwight come offseason.

? Atlanta can't sign Josh Smith and trade him to us for Pau?

that depends what you mean, if you mean sign and trade him for Pau immmediately then NO....I dont know the time period but there would have to be some sort of time frame from the time the contract is signed till they can trade Smith.

^^^You're partially right, khmrP.

LA has 77M of potential salary next year. Starting 2013/14, tax paying teams cannot partake in a S&T if after the trade they are 4M or more above the luxury tax threshold (71M). So if team salary comes out to 75M or more after such a trade, deal can't happen.

Smith makes 13M while Pau makes 19M. Now if Smith decides to re-up and then get traded, he can make more than that 13M or even less than it depending on how the market dictates his value. Technically, Smith can re-up for up to 17M and we can trade Pau for him straight up and LA will still only be at 75M in potential salary allowing them to do such a trade since they are within the 4M that is allowed over the luxury tax threshold.

Seriously though, do you see anybody giving JSmith 17M per? So a S&T would probably work with Smith over the summer. Also Metta and his 7.7M have an ETO on his last year here. Duhon's 3.75M is partially guaranteed and we still can use the amnesty clause to wipe any player and their salary off the books.

So there are tons of options and factors at play that don't really limit us in a Pau for Smith type trade. However, both Atlanta and Smith would have to cooperate in the first place for such a deal to be consummated.

Hoops hype says 78 mill and thats w/o Howard potential salary. Wouldn't that pretty much take us out the range altogether? Even if he isn't signed yet there is still a cap hold.
