Funny. During the preseason I said "I'd rather develop Clark" than sign Martin. I didn't think Clark would blossom like he did, and it turns out we still probably need Martin.

I hate to go to this cliche, but he'll toughen up our frontline. We didn't know this in the offseason but, teams obviously aren't afraid of an ailing Dwight. And Pau, well, is Pau. I would not be opposed to bringing in Kenyon.

Wasn't there a guy on our d-league team that could defend?

Oden - isn't he still out until the summer? I don't think he is ready now. And like with B Roy, we know that won't last.

Martin has knee issues too, right!

Murphy may be best option, though Clark and sacre are better at protecting the rim.

If we get Dwight! We could really tread for a bit - esp with jamison, Clark and Nash all playing better.

Think we can trade Metta for anything? Thoughts?

:bang: Like he is just so expendable with our already soft defense from others that see a lot of playing time. Trade this guy. No trade that guy. This guy....ship him out. Who's coming back? How would I know....just want to trade someone. Ship Pau out. Who's coming back? Don't know, just want him gone. Even now before his full trade value next year. :bang:

of course pau is gunna be out. if only jordan hill didnt get injured. i wouldnt even be worried if pau went out and jordan hill was still good.

we seriously are gunna have to look into kenyon bc the heat picked up birdman who would have done fine for us just to play D and rebound. thats all we need...a jordan hill type play at the PF/C and kenyon can do that i think

There's no question he can bring that, however I think the Lakers might be hesitant with him possibly being a cancer to the team. At this point I think we're way too thin up front to even worry about it, and who knows he could add some very nice depth once Pau returns.

Kmart is the way to go, toughness & defense at the very least. Like a 6'10 Matt Barnes I suppose...

Question, do we get a PF or a C?

Pau played both positions...

Hopefully a team not getting to the playoffs this year sees that Pau is down and elects to trade for him, with the intention they shut him down for the rest of the season and he gets surgery. Rested and revamped Pau could persuade a team.....

Or....

We hang onto him, sign a big, make a push towards the playoffs and than we have a fully revamped Pau heading into the playoffs. (Yes, I am 100% confident we will make the playoffs)

We have to make a move. I don't think we can trade for somebody that's serviceable. Duhon has a relatively friendly contract. Although, no draft picks to include with Duhon to get a servicable big man. Morris & Ebanks; although, I remember reading somewhere they essentially have a trade clause in their contracts.

We don't have a lot of flexibility right now. We just might have to pick somebody up off of waivers...

^^^ its a VERBAL no trade clause for Ebanks, Morris I don't even think has one. You can still trade Ebanks if you wanted to but that would ruin your verbal reputation...

Report: Spurs Could Trade For Al Jefferson

The NBA trade deadline journalism racket is a tricky minefield to navigate. The business is driven by rumors, many of which are founded in truth, others of which are utterly fictitious.

Distinguishing between the two differentiates the good basketball Web sites from the bad sites.

But figuring out who is available is not rocket science if you speak to the right people, and I speak to a lot of plugged-in people on a regular basis.

Here is the latest they are telling me: The San Antonio Spurs are the front-runners to land Al Jefferson in a trade with the Utah Jazz – and they are frontrunners like Secretariat was in the 1973 Belmont Stakes.

Here’s why, followed by a how.

“Those teams are practically incestuous, they are on such good terms internally,” one NBA source told me Wednesday.

Indeed, Spurs assistant general manager Scott Layden left Utah prior to this season after spending several seasons as an assistant coach for the Jazz and joined R.C. Buford’s staff in San Antonio’s secrecy vault front office. Also, former Spurs assistant GM Dennis Lindsey is now doing the legwork for Utah’s grand pooh-bah, Kevin O’Connor.

The Jazz do not want to lose Jefferson for nothing when he becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer, and they have a former overall No. 3 pick, Enes Kanter, ready to step in and fill the void that would be left by Jefferson’s departure.

Yes, Jefferson makes them a better playoff team. But no, the Jazz are not fooling themselves into believing they are championship material at this point.

And if Dwight Howard is not available on the free agent market this summer, Jefferson immediately becomes the No. 1 center available.

So the time for the Jazz to move him is now, and the team with the biggest need for an upgrade at center is the Spurs. The inability to protect the rim was one of the prime reasons for their collapse in last year’s Western Conference finals when they had won 20 in a row and had a 2-0 lead on the Thunder, only to lose the next four.

Next: The Jazz need a point guard, and the Spurs have two of them not named Tony Parker. So you can expect Patty Mills (who Lindsey is familiar with and fond of) to be the preferable choice over Nando de Colo.

The Jazz also need some value coming back in this trade, and the Spurs have one last Eurostash asset in Erazem Lorbek, who has been profiled on this site by writer A.J. Mitnick.

Presumably they’d also ask for Tiago Splitter, because somebody would need to back up Kanter, and because Splitter is having an improved season in the year his contract expires – meaning Utah would not be taking on any long-term financial obligation.

San Antonio throws in Stephen Jackson for salary-matching purposes (almost an exact match), and voila. Captain Jack will love Salt Lake City, hunh?

What about Jermaine O'Neal. Heard he was a surprise in Phoenix. He was playing well there. Also heard that he and the owner of the Suns I think got into it.

This is my first choice. He got into it with the gm a week or two ago. Not sure where they stand now.
I think he's avereging 8 and 6 in 15 min.

JO is still an injury prone. We don't have PHX medical staffs. He is a risk we can't offer.

I dont think its some verbal thing, its a birds right thing like where players like Ebanks has rights to nix a deal unless he waives his bird rights. I remember Devan George f'd up a trade like this when he was in Dall.

I'd take JO over K-Mart at this point. Atleast he's been on a NBA team this season.. We don't even know if K-Mart can play anymore. They're both risky personalities to take on but I can't see them having a huge impact in the locker room with the vets we have.

I also remember reading that it was a verbal agreement between Ebanks & Mitch, because Ebanks waited to sign when the Dwightmare was still going on. I wouldn't doubt if Ebanks waives it if the team he's going to will play him.
