No...
The problem with NY they have a good roster but is running the wrong system... The problem with LA is the roster itself... Nash and D12 needs their shooters... Pau/D12 cannot play together, and Odom is sorely missed... They are also too old and too slow on both ends...
Remember that term "on paper"? That was widely tossed around when this LA team was assembled. On paper, one of the most talented teams in the league...if not THE most talented. Then you get the wrong system installed and we have this garbage. Pau and Kobe both ave played with Phil...and won! You know how Peaceful it would be not watching #15 fling up every 3ball available to him? With Phil at the helm, players were reigned in if they went off the deep end, but with MDA...let it rain!
Dwight would be highlighted in the post while you have a smart guard and a hell of a shooter in Nash on the perimeter...envision a Paxson/Kerr type with handles...dangerous working in a motion offense like the tri. Lastly, lets not forget that based off the strengths he had on his roster, Phil allowed modifications to the tri. We ran more and broke away from slowing tempo when we had athletes like Ariza and Shannon on our team.
This team is old, so do you think a run and gun offense like Mike's fits this team? Yet the FO thought it did and we're now paying dearly for it.
There are some good bigs available right now, but the FO won't bring in more talent that will just get buried on the bench since they can't run and gun in this system.
You're right about the system or lack thereof & our lame-duck coach. It's a disaster. That's one of the reasons we're not making the PO's, IMO. However, there was a reason that people said that team had talent, "on paper." Pau has declined since Phil left in 2011. Whether it's healthy, fear of being traded, or whatever the case may be, the Pau that we won with will never resurface.
He may look good on offense for a stretch of games but his defense was putrid. It's not that he wasn't making the effort; I believe he was but his body has slowed down tremendously. Even with the Triangle, Pau would have struggled with his health. There is no system that could have helped with that.
"Dwight highlighted in the post," as you said is not the most efficient way to get Dwight easy looks at the rim. He's not a very good in straight 1 on 1 post-ups. It would have made Dwight happy to be highlighted; I just don't think he's most effective in that capacity offensively, IMO.
We do need another coach, though. We also need changes within this roster to get a little younger & more athletic, IMO...
