Roster Improvement: Free Agents Now and Later?

JO would be awesome with the 2nd unit.

I rather standpat than go for Bell. Cause that just tells me that the FO was willing to spend money and chose to spend it on Bell, while ignoring other (more dire) options.

I'd rather have a body than nothing at all though. If we're not going to go get Martin fine. If for some reason we don't want Amundson, okay. But we still NEED a backup SF, right? It's better than having nothing.

100 million dollar pay roll or not - injuries anc chemistry issues are a plenty. Why be penny wise and pound foolish? Without depth at the center and SF positions - players who can add energy, play smart and within themselves, and defend, this team will wear down in the next 15 games and it will all be for nothing. No playoffs. Clark is already wearing down from added minutes. Metta, Blake, Nash or Kobe or Jamison will be next. This sucks. Those exceptions for nothing?

Maybe w can nab a decent player from china or something.

Backup C. I don't mind Jamison or Clark playing minutes behind Metta.

We need a big who can defend the paint and just take up space while guys like Earl and play help defense and grab boards.

Kmart can effectively play D against the entire frontline (especially in today's NBA where playing big is a dying skillset). Yet, if an addition is made it will be for a small.

If your "future" is coming off back surgery and has ailed with a shoulder injury, wouldn't you want to protect that asset and not have him rush in there cause you can't buy him minutes off the floor?

It is what it is....hopefully if JO becomes available, we don't think twice about it.

That being said, its all about JBeezy for me right now....maybe in putting him to rest, my utter disappointment in this season can also be put to rest....maaaybe.

I know we all wanted to see, at the least, some capable bodies added to the end of the bench.. But I kind of like the fact that we stood pat. It lets the guys know that management feels this team as constructed is their best chance of winning this season. Should be a big confidence booster.

Once Gasol returns that's 19 million reasons why we don't need another 1.7 million reasons for another person there.

but he can't play the whole game either and pretty much all hell brake lose in the paint once he sits. We can't be booking on Pau's eventual return, who know when that will be, he's proven to be a slow healer himself over these last 2 seasons or so.

Only if you really expect the Lakers to push into the Finals does any of that matter. If the team built as it is now (sustaining today's health) can't make it to the playoffs, adding another person like Martin or Amundson, or Bell, doesn't really matter. It's not going to change enough.

f man i don t get it why did the fo not even try to bring kenyon martin in to the lakers fro a 10 day contract. i don t get it all of the sudden new york landed him. k mart would have brought at least toughness, defense and hustle . i don t get it because we are so thin on the frontcourt with gasol and hill out.f...

Guess now we have to wait for the free agent deadline on march 1st I believe.

They might have...they were looking to open a roster spot remember.

Martin is off the market afters signing with New York. Lou Amundson is still available for insurance, but I doubt we're making that move. Raja Bell is still on our radar if he's bought out by the Jazz; the Jazz have made no formal comment about his contract status and the potential for his buyout depends a lot on time. They've already paid him a decent portion of his contract and if the Lakers gave him their injured player exception of around 1.7 million he'd make up basically his entire contract AND get to play in LA. He would just need to accept the buyout.

It's not an exciting add, but hey we aren't using Ebanks and we literally have no backup SF right now. It couldn't hurt.

The future however looks pretty bright for free agents this summer. The new CBA was "designed to protect the smaller players" but instead did the opposite. Teams are going to overpay for stars no matter what, so the role players will have to accept an even smaller salary as dictated by the market. We saw that with guys like Barbosa going for the minimum, when he'd be worth more in the last CBA.

I like the list of SF, nice combo's of youth and experience.....if we can dump MWP with Pau or whatevers any 2 of these would be great Buddinger, Dunleavy, Capt. Jack, Morrow, Wright. So basically guys who can hit OPEN shots unlike MWP Also liking list of affordable SG names, I'm over Jodie, he's cheap but we now see why. Name I'm "sort" of intrigue is Ellington, for some reason I see him as a potential version of Danny Green, pretty much useless in Clev but with SA offense he is a dangerous 3pt shooter and solid overall contributor, I'm thinking if he was used properly like that he could replicate Green game.

Billy Hunter didn't negotiate anything for the players. The owners got all of the concessions they wanted, including the ability to slowly lower salaries over the next 5-10 years. First the role players are getting less, and once they're signed for minimum or a thereabouts, it will be hard to justify the max salaries to everyone else. The new CBA is working for the owners, one step at a time.

The only reason the owners didn't get everything the hockey owners did was because of market pressures. Lucky for the players, the endorsement guys like Nike and Adidas wanted a season, and Stern had too much to lose globally if he stops trying to expand for a year.

i have few names and i think they would be ideal for lakers next season: Foye( ideal for this system), Young(young fast can shoot), Henderson, Budinger, Hansborough, Turiaf, Blair
so something like this next season

of course its possible to pack Gasol and Blake and get PG and SF.....Metta for high 1st round pick

The list of names is solid but I hate speculating on this right now.

My thoughts: If we don't make the playoffs, everyone is on the block except Kobe/Nash/Clark/Hill/Jamo...@ $48M.....(before Pau/MWP) add possibly D12 and we're @ $68M. I think the D12 decision will be largely based on how this season ends.

If no D12, we likely hang on to Pau @ $67M....in which case, SOMEONE is getting moved out of MWP/Nash and possibly a big.

If D12 stays, Pau is gone, but that still puts us at $68M before MWP.

Correct me if I am wrong, but won't we only have the MLE at that point? I thought you could exceed salary cap in re-signing players, but not signing them out of free agency?

want NO part of Nick Young, looks like JR Smith out there with his chucking but at only half the talent.

Jarrett Jack would be the top of my list. Even though he's going to command money. If he'd take 3yrs@Mini-MLE.,

I think he loves it in Oakland though and Mark Jackson really uses him a lot.

I should know, I have him on my fantasy team.

yea I would've said him too but him taking that type of money is unlikely and we would need to get rid of Blake 1st as well.
