Per Ken Berger: Lakers/Knicks/Sixers all have interest in Amundson now that he has cleared waivers.

To save the franchise some dignity I'd say, not making the playoffs makes us one of the biggest disappointments in sports history. I'd pay to avoid that.

No, I'm just playing devil's advocate a bit.

Obviously we're all fans and we're all invested to the maximum degree of investment here. But if you're Jerry Buss or Jim Buss you just spent 100 million dollars to watch these divas p*** the season away. I wouldn't be so quick to spend an extra 3 million dollars if I didn't have to or if I didn't think our team was going to change significantly from the signing...

If I were Mitch I might just try to trade away Duhon for a backup big and then sign Derek Fisher honestly. He's not a whole lot worse or better than Duhon and he gives more locker room/leadership than Duhon does.

yea but I thought Hill exception is more like adding a player that will eat up his portion of his salary that league approved to be taxed?

Wish we could somehow end up with Amundson. That would be better IMO than Martin. Less attitude, younger, more hustle.

Surprisingly, no. He shoots over 50% for 2 and that's it. Nice guy, though. Plays hard.

i like amundson, but the lakers need a guy who can pass for a center, imo. kmart can do that in a pinch. i haven't seen amundson do that.

we need to sign somebody...our roster is short with all these injuries...
we need to stay competive and win...couse if we melt soon our locker atmosphere will get even worse...and it might even affect our next season (like dwight leaving)

My understanding is that we're still responsible for the extra money. From what I've read, all it does is allow us to sign people for half of the contract of whatever player is injured. We're still on the hook for the extra money, but if for instance Al Jefferson goes down, the Utah Jazz are then allowed to sign a guy worth half of his contract even if they're over the cap. They're just responsible for that money.

this, suggested it earlier when he got into that shouting match with the GM, but we dont have assets and I dont think Pho will be doing us any favor anytime soon. But definetly would be an ideal backup to Howard.

Meh, as soon as we got him he'd go down with a career ending, knee shattering injury. He's working with the fountain of youth doctors in Phoenix, he comes here and his knee would literally explode into dust the first time he came down from a shot.

We really need some size in that 2nd unit. This small-ball is going to kill us in the rebounding department...

Exactly. If we were to make a trade for JO, might as well trade for their medical staffs at the same time.

Let's take a look at this squad:

Howard, (Gasol)
Clark, Jamison
MWP
Bryant, Meeks
Nash, Blake

Obviously, we have the edge over the league at C, even Gasol is out, Jamison is a serviceable backup C under MDA's system. We are ok at two forward positions with Gasol, Clark, Jamison, MWP all could play PF and MWP, Clark and Bryant could play SF. We have a great guard combo in Bryant and Nash. They are back up by 3 point specialist in Meeks and adequate veteran guard in Blake. This roster is very good already. We could have the following lineups:

Balance lineup:
Howard, Clark, MWP, Bryant, Nash

Balance-offensive lineup:
Howard, Jamison, Clark, Bryant, Nash
Howard, Clark, Bryant, Meeks, Nash
Gasol, Clark, MWP, Bryant, Nash
Gasol, Jamison, Clark, Bryant, Blake
Jamison, Clark, MWP, Bryant, Nash (when Gasol out)

Offensive lineup:
Gasol, Jamison, Clark, Bryant, Nash
Gasol, Jamison, Bryant, Meeks, Nash
Jamison, Clark, Bryant, Meeks, Nash

However, there are problems:
Bryant and Gasol are team's offensive leaders. We must put either one on the court to carry offense. Howard, MWP and Blake are the worst offensive players. When we put any 2 on the court on the same time, the team's offense suck too.

How to fix it:
Meeks must know what he has to do and where he must to be to break the defense and stretch the floor. He could be a death eye spot up shooter.
Blake must be more aggressive.
Bryant must play in a balance mode, neither attack mode nor passing mode, to help the team. It's the ultimate mode for him. It's the greatest challenge to him. He has never transmit between attach mode and passing mode seamlessly over his career. It's his greatest challenge.
The team can add another perimeter scoring power, better with someone who can run fast break and penetrate

i'm going to propose this: trade jordan hill

first off, i love his game and he's cheap at $3M a year. however, perhaps there's someone willing to trade for him who's out of it this year. in addition, with pau coming back in 8 weeks and the emergence of earl clark, there's really not many minutes left, so why not get something for him now while we still have a shot at the playoffs.

also, if we want to trade mwp, packaging him with a young cheap contract is the only way anyone even gives us a second look.

thoughts?

I'd rather hold onto him and trade Pau in the off-season. I feel like we need young guys on cheap contracts. Yes getting rid of Metta and his 8 million a year would be great, but for the future, we need the Jordan Hills and their cheap contracts.

Yes, there is no problem.

If we trade Jordan Hill before using the Disabled Player Exception, then we lose the exception, but there is nothing that impedes us from trading Hill.

We are also able to use the exception and then trade Jordan Hill.
