Wayne Ellington would be a steal if we could sign him. The guy can shoot and puts up decent numbers in <20mins

This. Out of all the shooters and FA we've contacted tonight Wayne Ellington is one of the guys I've wanted for a while

Maybe the Lakers break their shooters' curse by just adding a f*** ton of them.

Maybe adding just one at a time every off season was the mistake. Just get 15 shooters on the floor and they'll figure it out.

Devin Harris is an unrestricted free agent. Could be another option at backup PG.

hope if we sign some of these guys that Earl still gets to play at the SF & PF spot. I really liked what he brought and can still improve.

Sources: Knicks express interest in Monta Ellis
July 1, 2013 1:50 am ET

As the free-agent negotiatiing period opened Monday morning, the Knicks expressed an interest in pursuing a deal with Bucks shooting guard Monta Ellis, league sources told CBSSports.com.

A union of Ellis and the Knicks is viewed as a longshot, as the Knicks only have the $3.2 million taxpayer mid-level exception available. Ellis just opted out of a deal that would have paid him $11 million next season in Milwaukee.

But Ellis, 27, and his Washington, D.C.-based agent, Jeff Fried, are known to be willing to compromise in order to sign with a contending team. And the Knicks, who face the free-agent loss of sixth man of the year J.R. Smith, would provide ample opportunity for Ellis to showcase his scoring prowess deep into the playoffs.

The Bulls, Spurs, Nuggets and Suns also are among the teams who expressed interest in Ellis as the free-agent negotiating period began Monday at 12:01 a.m. ET, league sources said.

New York already has one deal pending, the acquisition of Raptors center Andrea Bargnani for Marcus Camby, Steve Novak and draft picks. The deal won't be official until July 10.

The Bucks are facing the possible free-agent loss of Ellis and restricted free-agent Brandon Jennings this summer. Unrestricted free agent J.J. Redick has been the subject of sign-and-trade talks, but has had no discussions about staying in Milwaukee, Yahoo Sports repo

Ummm?......

Get Ellis here now if he's willing to compromise. Get Morrow here and D12 will be sure to stay.

We have a s*** ton of cap room to offer him next year for a new deal, NYK don't.

Wowwwww.. Monta for the mini mle? Not only would that be the steal of the offseason but D12 has wanted to play with Monta for a long time. I hope Mitch is all over that.

We need to sign 5-6 players this summer. I've been hearing we have only mini MLE to sign a player/players/.
What does that mean? We can only use mini MLE(around 3million, right?) to sign all 5-6 players?

No. It means we can use the mini-MLE to sign one or two players and then we'd need to use the veterans minimum to sign any other free agents.

The veteran's minimum is a set amount of money based on how long a player has been in the NBA and can be used multiple times. The mini-MLE can only be used once and is based off of a set price in the new CBA.

Monta for the mini mle.. Farmar + 2 or 3 of Garcia, Morrow, Delfino, Young, Budinger, Ellington for the minimum. Dwight comes back. Phil gets a bigger role.. Possibly a Pau trade & getting rid of Blake & MWP. What an offseason that would be.

There hasn't been reports of us doing much of anything but trying to win D12's heart.. Seeing us going after all these players got me a bit excited :man1:

Monta Ellis's agent said he wouldn't rule out signing with the Knicks if he felt the Knicks were a legit contender. The Knicks can only offer the mini-MLE. So why couldn't we??

Sign Monta. Sign Ellington. Sign Garcia and sign Delfino.

Nash/Blake
Ellis/Ellington/Meeks
Bryant/Garcia/Delfino
Gasol/Clark/Kelly
Howard/Hill/Sacre

I want to start Monta at PG or bring him off the bench.. Our defense would be even worse than last year if we start Nash/Monta/Kobe/Pau. Then again, the other team has to guard those guys too, which would be nearly impossible.

we may get 2 of those guys, thought budinger and young will get more than vets minimum. mwp is gone, but then to also unload pau and blake is alot to ask and highly unlikely.
and even though ellis's agent mentioned going to a contender, i think it's to drum up good press around monta. he's been a guy that's pretty much flown under the radar the last year and a half in milwaukee, so this is just the PR game. i'd be shocked if he went for less than 5M to any city

Oh I agree I'm just saying he didn't pull that Ellis idea out of no where :man10: .

I can't imagine him passing up what will likely be his last major contract. If he is willing then obviously the Lakers need to make that call and try to pair him with Dwight. But far more likely is us picking up one or two but hopefully three of the shooters they've said we're pursuing.

In a semi-realistic dream scenario:

Pau + Blake for Love, AK
Monta for Mini-MLE (or JR Smith, Tony Allen, Nick Young, OJ Mayo)
Farmar for Minimum (or CJ Watson)
Dalembert for Minimum

Nash/Farmar
Kobe/Monta
AK/Clark
Love/Hill
Dwight/Dalembert/Sacre
