Free Agent Frenzy: Lakers Work Out Beasley (408)

I stayed off the forum for a couple of hours and came back to see we are interested in a bunch of players who can shoot and are somewhat athletic. All I can say is, FINALLY!!!
Who knows maybe we sign one of them.

I wouldn't mind looking at Tony Allen either. Bring in him and JJ Reddick... JJ is close to Dwight right?

So we are getting in the news a lot chasing every name out there..... How many want to play here for a one year contract or at best the miniMLE?

Houston is going after Smith and we're going after Farmer..... Ugh...

Well I like that Mitch is not being bashful, he's been quite busy calling about trying to get shooters:

Dave McMenamin ‏@mcten 35m

The Lakers have been in contact with Francisco Garcia's representative, according to a league source. There is "mutual interest"

Dave McMenamin ‏@mcten 32m

The Lakers have inquired about L.A. native Nick Young, according to agent Mark Bartelstein. They had interest in Young last summer as well

Laker Nation ‏@LakerNation 28m

Nick Young, Carlos Delfino and Chase Budinger are being targeted by the Lakers.

Dave McMenamin ‏@mcten 21m

Lakers have also inquired about Cavs guard Wayne Ellington with his agent Arn Tellem. Notice a trend? Putting shooting at a premium

Mike Bresnahan ‏@Mike_Bresnahan 21m

Source: Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak indeed met with Dwight Howard briefly after free agency started at 9:01 p.m. Lakers pushing hard...

By my calculations here is the list of players we have all and inquired about
1) Jordan Farmar
2) Carlos Delfino
3) Wayne Ellington
4) Nick Young
5) Chase Budinger (not likely to get though)
6) Fransisco Garcia

I like it!! :jam2:

Sources: Knicks express interest in Monta Ellis
July 1, 2013 1:50 am ET

As the free-agent negotiatiing period opened Monday morning, the Knicks expressed an interest in pursuing a deal with Bucks shooting guard Monta Ellis, league sources told CBSSports.com.

A union of Ellis and the Knicks is viewed as a longshot, as the Knicks only have the $3.2 million taxpayer mid-level exception available. Ellis just opted out of a deal that would have paid him $11 million next season in Milwaukee.

But Ellis, 27, and his Washington, D.C.-based agent, Jeff Fried, are known to be willing to compromise in order to sign with a contending team. And the Knicks, who face the free-agent loss of sixth man of the year J.R. Smith, would provide ample opportunity for Ellis to showcase his scoring prowess deep into the playoffs.

The Bulls, Spurs, Nuggets and Suns also are among the teams who expressed interest in Ellis as the free-agent negotiating period began Monday at 12:01 a.m. ET, league sources said.

New York already has one deal pending, the acquisition of Raptors center Andrea Bargnani for Marcus Camby, Steve Novak and draft picks. The deal won't be official until July 10.

The Bucks are facing the possible free-agent loss of Ellis and restricted free-agent Brandon Jennings this summer. Unrestricted free agent J.J. Redick has been the subject of sign-and-trade talks, but has had no discussions about staying in Milwaukee, Yahoo Sports repo

Ummm?......

Get Ellis here now if he's willing to compromise. Get Morrow here and D12 will be sure to stay.

We have a s*** ton of cap room to offer him next year for a new deal, NYK don't.

If Ellis is willing to play for the mini-MLE, that's the biggest steal of the off-season.

Well for me so far this is the first offseason in years where I don't dislike any of the players we're rumored to be interested in. All the players posted about tonight are players I would either be happy to have, or wouldn't mind being on the team. It's not like in previous seasons where I'm like "ugh, I do not want this guy at all, this sucks". Budinger, Delfino, Young, Garcia, Copeland, Ellington, Farmar, these are mostly younger guys that can shoot and are somewhat more athletic than we're used to.

Yeah what the f***?

If he's really willing to take the mini-MLE Mitch should get on the damn phone so damn fast. :man10:

Grab Ellis for the mini-MLE and I think the narrative of the summer changes immensely.

Ellis would absolutely pique Howard's interest. Tell him we've got something in store for Gasol, not to mention we're already on the phone with a dozen shooters around the league who are just waiting to hear that they'll play with Dwight Howard...

We might stop hearing the bulls*** about the Clippers all summer long. :man10:

Wayne Ellington would be a steal if we could sign him. The guy can shoot and puts up decent numbers in <20mins

This. Out of all the shooters and FA we've contacted tonight Wayne Ellington is one of the guys I've wanted for a while

Maybe the Lakers break their shooters' curse by just adding a f*** ton of them.

Maybe adding just one at a time every off season was the mistake. Just get 15 shooters on the floor and they'll figure it out.

Devin Harris is an unrestricted free agent. Could be another option at backup PG.

We need to sign 5-6 players this summer. I've been hearing we have only mini MLE to sign a player/players/.
What does that mean? We can only use mini MLE(around 3million, right?) to sign all 5-6 players?

No. It means we can use the mini-MLE to sign one or two players and then we'd need to use the veterans minimum to sign any other free agents.

The veteran's minimum is a set amount of money based on how long a player has been in the NBA and can be used multiple times. The mini-MLE can only be used once and is based off of a set price in the new CBA.

Monta for the mini mle.. Farmar + 2 or 3 of Garcia, Morrow, Delfino, Young, Budinger, Ellington for the minimum. Dwight comes back. Phil gets a bigger role.. Possibly a Pau trade & getting rid of Blake & MWP. What an offseason that would be.
