Free Agent Frenzy: Wayne Ellington signed (423)

I don't think we have any interest in signing Turkoglu. We only wanted to trade for him to waive him. Same as the Bynum situation.

I think, numbers wise, he compares to Deandre Jordan (11 mil) and I think that may be what their front office throws at him when the time comes, barring major improvements. I would go a little higher with Stephenson, either get him or make the Pacers pay a bit more to keep him.

The Thompson thing isn't a deal breaker, but when Kobe comes off the books, we'd be looking at 2 contracts around 11 mil and 2 max contracts at around 17 give or take. That is basically less than we have with Pau, Kobe and Nash at the moment.

Drummond is also in his second year and nowhere near the head case DC has proven to be. I'd think that'd hurt someones value over free throw percentage.

I agree he doesn't deserve a max but Detroit might just be forced into doing so.

All that is true about Cousins, but it was his own team that signed him for the max. I have no problems with Drummond, he was our starting center in my 'dream' scenario, free throws aside, I really like him and would love what he could bring to that team. I brought up the free throw issue because, outside of one major exception, max contracts aren't the best idea for players who have to come off the floor in late game situations. I think Howard came along at a time when the Center spot was becoming very weak and a dominant Center was at a premium. The thinking was that having an anchor down low like that was necessary to win a championship, Shaq and Duncan come to mind as they were trading championship wins prior to his coming into the league, add another win for Shaq in Miami, and the writing was on the wall.

He'd be a good stretch four to replace Pau ... if we're trying to tank.

if we're trying to tank instead of signing someone we should just play Shawne Williams 48min per game

Lakers would like to get under luxury tax. If you crunch the numbers, easy to see why waiving Williams was necessary.

I wonder who is next?

1.) Kaman
2.) Pau
3.) Meeks
4.) Blake
5.) Nash

That would be my order.

I'd guess we could at least get a 2nd Round pick for those guys... Right? I mean Philly doesn't even have enough money on the books to avoid penalty, let's send them our crap for a 2nd rounder. Even if it's a future pick.

How about signing a back up PG to a 10 day contract? Giving 10 day contracts started yesterday.

Well it's been reported the entire time that Bynum wanted to join the Heat or Clips after he's cut, so obviously they need to free up a roster spot just incase.

Not surprising their trying to save more money; they've been doing so since 2011 when they tried to trade for CP3; that deal alone could have saved them 40 million dollars. Then they dumped Walton and Fisher. Last year, they tried to swing for the fences and have that enormous payroll; that didn't work out. They amnestied Metta during the summer as another cost-cutting maneuver. They almost dumped Pau and saved over 20 million dollars; besides last year, Our MO has been to preserve our financial flexibility for 2014. I don't know who's coming next but my guess would be Kaman.

^ More Ryan Kelly I think. They want to develop him to be a knockdown shooter. He could prove valuable in the future if he stays healthy and works on his game.

Agreed and to be honest, we have most the tertiary components of a championship: 6th man, shooters, athleticism, size, veteran experience.

I like what Kelly brings to the table. If he can develop into Ryan Anderson type, we hit the lottery. Shooting ability is huge.

Now, if only we could get plug the other holes: superstar talent, championship coach, toughness, defense, rebounding.

According to Mike Bresnahan, Lakers won't add Hedo.

They want to maintain roster flexibility and will not add free-agent forward Hedo Turkoglu because they think his skills are declining.
