No, I thought Luke had a decent post game. He worked in the triangle because he had size and vision.

Kelly's primary game is his shot, of course, but looking at that highlight video showed that he has some footwork and touch around the basket. With his size, I think he could take on some PF's on the league. Perhaps learn the Dirk Fade from Kobe, seems like that's RKelly's idol based on the mannerisms he has.

Decent is a fair appraisal of Luke's post game. I don't know Kelly, but if he has a better post game than Walton and he's 6'11" I'm interested.

If he's anywhere near a rookie Frye, D'antoni is going to have this guy in the rotation. I don't know if Pau can step up & handle a bigger role in the post still, but if he can, all of that spacing is going to give him the most room he's ever had to operate.. Wonder if the Nash/Pau P&R will ever be as good as Kobe/Pau P&R.

Included in my Beasley piece today (http://es.pn/15BvhbU ): Lakers rookie Ryan Kelly's progress with his R foot is not going well
View summary

The Lakers drafted Ryan Kelly in the second round primarily for his ability to stretch the floor with his long-range accuracy, but the team has been discouraged by the rookie's progress during the summer, according to multiple league sources. The Lakers doubt that Kelly, who missed summer league while recovering from multiple foot procedures, will be ready for the start of training camp.

I hope we don't sign him just to sign him. If he can't show up healthy to training camp and prove he should be on the team, then we should look to someone who can.

Uh yeah, I know this season is meaningless, but I still don't want a late second round pick with a bad foot and not a second of NBA experience to be a primary backup PF.

This might explain Shawne Williams' contract offer.

if he hasn't been signed, they can keep his rights and bring him along slowly from the injury. probably the smart play here. and yes, I think Beasley has to be the prime target right now given the lack of nba quality depth at sf/pf.

KEVIN DING ‏@KevinDing 2m
With lingering foot problem for rookie @RyanKelly34, three among Landry, Xavier Henry, Shawne Williams, Elias Harris might well make Lakers.

3 of those guys might make the team?

Well if Kelly isn't on the team then probably we should look for Landry or Williams to replace him.

Without actually looking it up, I think it's-
Nash, Blake, Farmar, Kobe, Meeks, Young, Johnson, Hill, Gasol, Kaman, Sacre.

Looks about right so in that case three more signings is what they'll do. Mitch likely wants to keep one roster spot open in case a 2 for 1 trade opportunity arises.

Yep. I'm thinking Kelly, Landry, Harris, Henry, and Williams are going to fight over the last 3 spots on the roster. if Kelly's foot really doesn't heel ( :man1: ) then we're talking about Harris, Landry, Henry, and Williams?

I'll take Harris, Landry, and Henry of those 4. Maybe Williams instead of Harris, but I just like Harris's personality better for this team.

Lakers plan to evaluate Ryan Kelly in about a week. Kelly has had problems w/ right foot since having surgery in April.

I think it's clear you don't sign him and retain his rights. keep him with your d-league affiliate and oversee his recovery. give the other guys who are healthy the chance to fight it out for a roster spot.

i'm guessing henry's the odd man out, as Williams and harris can both play the 4 and landry has a clear, marketable skill (shooting).

Williams, Harris, AND Landry though? That's a lot of 3-4s. I know that's D'Antoni's specialty but I think Henry has a shot here if he can provide the same things Williams does: outside shooting (big if) and athleticism. Because Henry is also a better defender AND he has upside while Williams can't play defense and has peaked at "barely roster-able".

MDA will want the best shooters plus big man depth. So guessing Henry is the odd man out since he isn't known for his shooting.

Kelly will be kept on ice... pun intended.
I shall be telling this with a sigh

fair points. I just think Williams' history with mda will help his cause. harris is already guaranteed, right? I can't remember. I really think henry's inability to consistently knock down shots will be a huge issue for dantoni, upside be damned.

According to Pincus, Harris' AND Williams' contract are partially guaranteed.

Knowing that changes things. Harris and Williams probably have an inside track leaving Landry or Henry looking in. If that's the case, then I say Henry probably is the odd-man out.
