What? He's playing the 4, so all he needs to know is how to play position defense on the block above all else to be a serviceable player.

How many 4s are great at closing out on opposing PF shooters in this league? The answer is not many, so Kelly really doesn't have too big of a mountain to climb on that front if he wants to be an average defender. Just don't get backed down easily, and block out on rebounds. He gets those fundamentals down, and he's good.

We got a taller Luke, with less passing and more shooting. He does have a nice feel for the game, but is going to be a career bench player, most likely. Overall, that was another solid pick for us. Needs to work on D in the off-season, but I can't really complain about him. He does belong in the NBA and he doesn't seem to fold under pressure at all. Phil would probably like this kid. In the worst case, he'd use him off the bench as another Brian Cook. Except this kid can be better then Cookie Monster.

Hard to tell if he's actually good or not because all of his impact comes from scoring & D'antoni inflates that like no other. Time will tell I guess.

Maybe I should start talking bad prematurely, or just in general, about more of our guys. Earlier in the season I said Blake was playing like garbage all season, and then all off sudden he started playing like Nash when he was good. After 2 games or so of Kendall Marshall I asked if we could cut him already, and then boom, guy explodes and has done nothing but impress me since. Now Ryan Kelly, 2 games ago when Harris was signed I said good if it means no more Kelly.

Kelly had shown me nothing special, nothing that convinced me he had any real NBA ability. Then he has 2 great games in a row, and looks like he at least belongs in the league as a role player with some sneaky offensive moves, a good feel for the game, and some nice hustle. I was initially hopeful for the kid when he was drafted, and again when he got his first playing time, but after not seeing him have any real impact out there for a while I was no longer hopeful. Guess I forgot to take into account he's a rookie 2nd rounder, probably needs time to get a feel for the NBA, figure out what he can and can't do, get his confidence up like he appears to have done.

Obviously I'm not serious and taking credit here with my first statement above, I just wanted to admit to being a crappy armchair GM with a few of our players. I think I'm gonna stop judging guys so quick, or giving up on them so fast. L'Adorable will have a longer time, as long as he's with us, before I make up my mind on him. As for Kelly, I'm rooting for the kid, hope he continues to gain confidence and find his way with us. Still can't say if he's gonna make it in the league after 2 games, but my new feeling is you never know, give him a chance and wait and see.

Kelly's performance in the last 2 games, doesn't surprise me... if it wasn't for his knee problems in Duke... he would have been a late lottery pick.... he is gonna be a Dirk lite if everything pans out for him.

He's a very fundamental basketball player...the pumpfakes, footwork, boxing out, decent team defender, takes charges, etc; he's also very well-coached. High basketball IQ guy. He's serviceable...

It wasn't his knee. It was his foot. He had a Jones' fracture. (Same thing that Brook Lopez is dealing with). Lots of people have them and they are fine. Others never return from them. I am recovering from a Jones' fracture at the moment and it's a tricky, sucky injury. It's why I've been pulling for the kid this season.

He wasn't ever supposed to be a late lottery pick, but he was definitely supposed to be a first rounder until he rebroke the foot. But it's also the worst draft class in the history of ever so that's not a huge accomplishment.

Did you just refer to how many points he scored tonight or how many #1 overall pick Anthony Bennett has scored on the season?

Ryan Kelly's points, I didn't know if Bennett had that many on the season.

easy for him to play with confidence knowing hes not gonna get benched since we have no one else. should be interesting to see his development and the type of player he is once we have more bodies and his minutes decrease. liked how he did more than spot up 3's. attacked and had some luck

he looks slow as molasces but somehow that doesn't deter him from trying to drive to the basket....I like it, unlike the other slow bro Cookie who would just settle for any type of perimiter shot he could get. But wow, gota hand it to the Cavs, this is what happens when a bad team with bad mgmt. get's #1 pick in a draft without a consensus #1 pick. That Bennet guy has the potential to be Mike Sweetny, in the worse possible way. How the hell did this guy get picked 1st?

He's an NBA player. He shouldn't be starting and might not be second string, but he's an NBA player. Good range, smart player, and he works hard.

Good thing I started him this week in fantasy to make up for Jodie going down. :man10:

Ryan Kelly > Anthony Bennett

It's astounding how he went #1, what where the Cavs thinking?

Conspiracy. Stern was working with Dan Gilbert. You take Bennett 1st this year so that NOLA gets Davis and makes the Paul veto look good in exchange for $$$.

Really, looking at the NBA's rookie class this season, Kelly is more than holding his own with some of the better first year performers. He's just one of those solid Duke guys who plays the game the right way. Not athletic, not great speed, but an effective if not deceptive quick first step. Very solid young player. Sweet stroke that should only improve. Showing a lot of moxy and composure for a rook. Certainly cannot complain at all about that pick. I have no problem with him as part of a healthy rotation.
