Shaq hires Tracy McGrady's Personal Trainer

Postby Lakers Dynasty 2000 on Wed Jun 04, 2003 3:05 pm

Shaquille O'Neal is ready to get in shape, and he's turning to Tracy McGrady's personal trainer for help.

O'Neal has hired Wayne Hall, McGrady's longtime trainer, to work with him this summer in Orlando in hopes of regaining his conditioning and dominance.

Reacting to the news of O'Neal's fitness plan, Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said Tuesday: "It's great."

That's awesome news! I'm definitely looking forward to a leaner, meaner, hungrier Man of Steel gorilla stompin' down the purple and gold court.

Is it next season yet?

Oh, and HI!! This is my first post!

Slava laughed at the suggestion his skills might be affected by the down time. "Are you kidding?" he said. "Basketball is like ball. It's all a circle."

That's cool! I hope he takes full advantage of what the trainer can help him with. He really needs to get back into the best possible shape he can be in..........like he was back in 2001 (as seen in these photos that were on his old message board back then):

Aww, thanks for the welcome BryantDunkGiant and FirstLady!

Damn, those pics of Shaq are trippin' me out! He was so much leaner back then. I hope Shaq has a good time getting back into fighting shape and getting back his superior conditioning. Hopefully, all of his little knick-knack injuries will disappear, too.

The Most Dominant Ever will definitely be back better than ever.

I can't wait to see Shaq next season. He's is going to punish his opponents more than he has in a long time, especially Timmy. And will help the Lakers bring back what is rightfully theirs. He will probably get the MVP award and definately the Finals MVP award.

I really hope Shaq comes to camp in the best shape he has ever been as a Laker...that would really help us to be a better squad defensively...

Excellent news. With a little luck, Shaq'll carry the motivation throughout the off-season.

Yeah, now all we need is a sequel to Shallow Hal (Hollow Diesel) where Shaq gets trapped in an elevator with Emeril Lagasse who hypnotizes him into seeing the inner beauty of food, instead of the outer "taste" that has been distracting him from true physical fitness...

See, now he will get into shape... Something he has failed to do over the past 3 years, at least commited wise.

I mean, you go look back at the 2000 run, and Shaq was a badass. We get him anywhere near that state of in-shape, and I will be very very, happy...

I guess now that Shaq won American Idol he can lose that weight. HA HA

Ya'll know I'm just playin'. Good news. The first step is always admitting it to yourself.

lets hope that the news about shaq will help us with some crucial signings. if they see that Shaq means business next season, I wonder if the players we want would rather play with a fitter, meaner, leaner Shaq or try and stop him. Thoughts?

Good point, since they lost there are numerous players who want to join the Lakers. It's pretty much your best bet for a ring. With Shaq and Kobe training, it will also make more people hungry to join them. It's going to be interesting to see what turns out...

i know. I read that shaq is looking to add some more muscle to his bulk. He will carve it up in there and I tell you what, I'd rather be a part of it than on the end of it.

with shaq in top shape, we can sign arenas with the MLE and ge someone like ty hill in at PF. No one will come in the paint with Shaq as mean and as lean as he is gonna be

MY FIRST POST!!!!

"O'Neal would like to become more muscular"

I don't think what Shaq needs is more muscle. IMHO he needs to lose more weight and increase his movement and flexibility. I was (un)lucky enough to watch 90% of their games the past year through the miracle of NBA League Pass and Shaq looked like his feet were stuck in mud half the time. He had his moments like the full-court dribble, drive, and dunk against Minnesota(?) in the playoffs but he wasn't consistent all year.

I don't know if T-Mac's trainer is the best choice since T-Mac's been having back problems the past two years and Mike Miller's been having leg problems. Oh well, anything to get Shaq off the FatBurger and Twinkie diet I'm happy with.

I agree, or at least he wasn't as consistent as much as we want him to be. Think about it, he'll be in shape, turn that fat into muscle, and scare a Duncan or two next season.

I think that will help at least to keep Kobe happy, and an happy Kobe is a Kobe in Lakers jersey in 2005...
