Shawne Williams Discussion: back on a 10 day contract

Needs to find his shot and get those corner 3's to fall.

Other than that, his at the rim defense is actually pretty solid. Blocked Biff twice tonight.

i was starting to take those corner 3's for granted, amazed he missed em tonight. defense and effort was good as usual.

^^ Agreed. He needs to set his feet every time before he shoots. He's an excellent shooter from 3, but sometimes he's been rushing it.

I liked Shawnes defense tonight. Shooting was off like he was rushing it, but not a terrible game.

He played alright. It was clear to me still that he's the best fit for Gasol for sure. I expect him to shoot better tomorrow though.

Kaman's a pretty nice fit too though when we need size like Dan seemed to think early on tonight, as Shawne is undersized at the 4. Very glad we have both of them plus Hill. And even Sacre in case of injury or foul trouble.

Kaman and Gasol fit great offensively, but we lose quite a bit defensively and the payoff isn't always going to be enough.

I would only play Shawne and Hill at the 4 next to Kaman or Gasol ... forget about Wesley at the 4 ...

I would try Shawne and Hill together too

We always need at least one big on the floor who is quick enough and has a knack for help defense ...

Kaman tries but always has been too slow

As for Pau , I wonder how much his poor D is about not being able to move laterally/jump anymore and how much it is about his laziness ... I still maintain he should have lost some weight for a couple of seasons

Shawne and Hill frontcourt is a good rebounding combination, but sacrifice height in the process.

A lot of Pau and Kaman is being 7 foot and just taking up space and length. Although they may not be as athletic, they make up a lot of space in the paint. Not saying Pau and Kaman are defensive juggler knots, but they do have an affect.

yeah it depends on the matchups ... if MDA played Wesley and Jordan together he sure can play Shawne next to Hill .. I think that's a better combo .

IMO this was his first big game as a Laker, took a long time, but he picked a good time.

Some amazing 3-pt shooting from him today.

1/2 - My theory for Shawne Williams going off for 20 points (previous high was 8): beating Kobe in ping pong last night, building swagger.

Mike Trudell @LakersReporter about 1 hour ago
2/2: I asked @Kobe Bryant if that was part of the plan. “Of course! Gotta keep my guys on edge.” Williams didn’t back down, which Kobe loves.

While he's been inconsistent this season, I like what we've seen from him so far. For some reason I find myself actually expecting most of his shots to fall and I like his effort on defense/rebounding. I've heard some people criticize D'antoni for continuing to play him while letting Kaman rot on the bench. That's definitely understandable considering that Shawne is pretty much useless when he isn't shooting well. But I think at this point, with it being still relatively early in the season, we'd be best off keeping Shawne in the rotation and hope that he starts shooting more consistently as he gets used to a steady role and playing time.

Best game shooting in the regular season...I was getting frustrated with him missing shot after shot before this game; although, I'm not expecting this type of shooting performance every game, I do hope he found a rhythm and is at least more consistent than he was...

This guys get the shots they need when our gaurds are penetrating and kicking. When Williams shoots that open corner 3 its like money. Great game by the kid.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

Aside from really liking Shawne and it seems like his teammates all REALLY like him, this move makes no sense. He's been a key member of our rotation and one of very few decent defenders...
