Shawne Williams Discussion: back on a 10 day contract

Re: Lakers Sign Shawne Williams (p. 3)

He'll play the 4 for MDA. I am pretty sure about that. Now, he might actually be good. He is young, he is athletic, has talent... but that all might add up to nothing. Let's wait and see. I think he will shoot the 3, he's getting better at it IIRC. Might be able to hit close to 40% for D'Antoni if we're lucky..

Interesting signing, Mitch.

Shawne Williams trash-talk Metta World Peace. Shawne Williams our new enforcer ? :thezen:

I'm all for signing anyone that's young (ish) and with "potential" this season.

As I see it, this season is just a throw away. An audition to see which of our band of rag tag underachievers can raise their bar and win a spot on the retooled 2014-2015 team. Williams fits that mold perfectly.

Sure, sign him up. As long as it's for one year, it's fine in my book.

Gotta be a camp invite. Didn't we also "sign" Landry? That would put us at 16.

I thought we had already signed him to a camp invite earlier this summer. Unless it wasn't official and was just a rumor. IMO this seems to be a legit signing to be on the roster.

That's what I thought.. Camp invite with a small guarantee like we gave Landry to keep him from going overseas.

As for the idea of signing SW in general.. Williams might not be a great PF but he's a D'antoni guy.. Providing a coach/system with role players that fit is the reason many teams have stayed competitive, the most obvious example of this being the Spurs.. MDA is no Pop but his systems have produced career seasons for guys before.. I wouldn't mind the signing if he looks good in camp.

Yep, as I thought it is a partially guaranteed contract (1-Year Veteran's deal)
@mcten: New story: Shawne Williams' one-year, veteran's minimum deal with the Lakers is partially guaranteed http://t.co/fxk0uJnayc

No one should really be too upset with this deal.

Do not want. If a block head is signed, Beasley would definitely offer the most upside.

this was my point on the previous page. if you're going for a headcase, there's a much more proven and talented one out there.

Hopefully we get both and let Harris/Landry fight it out over the last roster spot. Forget Kelly and his jacked up foot.

Figured. They can cut ties with him in training camp if need be.

Interesting signing, Mitch.

38% would be lucky, 40% would be asking a bit much, just ask Meeks.

Could we still stash Landry overseas? I'm pretty sure I remember reading that we gave him the partial guarantee because he was going to go overseas before camp started. Beasley should be the #1 priority by a long shot, but if he's playing at SF, we'd still have room for Williams if Antoni likes him in camp.

hes not afraid to get in someones face....if you can get in ron's face you got some balls and must me a little crazy. hopefully he can add that to our team when guarding some 3's and 4's.

seems like if hes confident in his shot and everyone plays together and within a system he can thrive. i dont expect him to make every shot but for a stretch 4 he'll be good enough off the bench. jordan hill is starting right?

Nash/Farmar/Blake
Kobe/Meeks
Young/Johnson
Hill/Williams
Pau/Kaman

I feel like a lot of our 2's and 3's will be playing both positions and sharing a lot of minutes outside of Kobe of course bc hes gonna want to play a lot but hopefully wont have to with a good amount of decent 2's and 3's

I just don't see Beasley willing to accept a partially guaranteed/make good contract. I think some team might be willing to offer him more than the minimum and I'm sure teams will be willing to give him a guaranteed deal.

Yeah there's no way Beasley takes a partially guaranteed contract with a chance to get beat out for his spot in camp. He's going to get offered guaranteed deals from teams for more than the minimum that we can offer..

Still looks pretty athletic. That's what we're looking for.

If he can stroke consistently outside, I'd probably take him over Landry. But he's got to prove he's consistent.

Another common observation: Shawne Williams has barely missed a shot thus far. He’s a guy to keep an eye on.

Possibly nothing, but from an interview with 'Antoni yesterday

Q: On who he sees playing alongside Pau Gasol this season:
D’Antoni: Pau can play anywhere. He can play with (Chris) Kaman, he can play with Jordan (Hill), he can play with Shawne Williams, he can play with a stretch four or big four.

Already speaking as if he's on the team, so I think it's likely.
