Should The Lakers Get Delonte West If He is a FA?

This may be the only good thing Brown can bring to the team, Delonte West (cleveland connection)
He might have some issues, but with Nash down I would MUCH rather have Delonte than Blake.

The Lakers had an all-star overhaul this summer and its come to this as the solution to our problems.

Unbelievable. No need to panic in terms of the roster. Management has done their job. You don't need anymore distractions or any volatile personalities joining the team. They definitely have to look for a better back up guard...ideally one that can be groomed to take over one day..but right now its Blake and guess what folks, Blake is exactly what he is..a backup PG. We were infuriated with Blake last year and rightfully so, cause he was a backup PG playing as a starter. We have Blake and that will suffice cause this roster has the parts to make this work.

Its all on Coach Brown to make it come to fruition. Management has done their part roster-wise, now management needs to make a choice and go find the guy to make the pieces work together or have the patience to stick with the guy they hired. I think they'll do the latter, but the heat is on and Mike needs to do something fast. Remember, we've seen shades of this before. Talent wise the Lakers were stacked, but it took the hiring of Phil Jackson to make us instant 3 peat champions. So again the roster ain't the problem IMHO.

Delonte is not the answer and at best a stop-gap. I would much rather go with Livingston, but realistically nothing should be done till we can shed salary with our glut at the guard position and then go get a legit option by the trade deadline.

After tonight's game, it's looking like a better case for the head case to join us. We are absolutely atrocious as as the bench is concerned. 30 point margin? Jamison and Meeks were supposed to be the answer but Meeks can't crack the rotation and Jamison has just plain vanished, as in where the hell is he.

The Los Angeles Lakers have no plans to sign a point guard as they wait for Steve Nash to recover from a small fracture in his left leg.

Nash will miss between one and four weeks.

Delonte West and Derek Fisher are both currently free agents.

The Lakers already have five point guards on their roster.

I don't take anything that comes from realgm seriously.

But in this case it's fairly obvious. We all want an improved back court, but the fact is we've got 4 PGs on contract along with 2 SGs that aren't even being used. So unless we shed the crap from the team, we're not going to go get another one.

Nash is great, but he's out for now.
Blake is a good backup so far, and perhaps we should trade him while his value is (relatively) high.

Duhon is a good, quick playmaker with experience, but he's obviously not playing and we don't have any long-term plans for him. He was basically dumped on us in the Dwight deal.

Morris is not good and should be in the D-League. He needs to develop his PG skills. Has size and some ability but is not NBA ready. Not by a long shot. And certainly not on the team that has championship aspirations.

DJ Odom. Who? Besides, he's a SG.

Basically, we have Nash and Blake. Who are good, but old, brittle... and Blake is probably on the trading block. Morris can't play and Duhon is in Mike's doghouse for some crazy reason.

No firm decisions made yet but Lakers, I'm told, ARE weighing pros and cons of creating roster spot to sign Delonte West to ease PG crisis

Sense I get is that D-West, widely regarded as top available PG, is at the top of Lakers' list ... but word is they'll indeed look around

One issue, of course, is Lakers have full 15-man roster. Among reasons they didn't sign D-Fish before Mavs: L.A. wanted to move one PG first

I'm not sold on West, but at least he plays with energy. He can be the other short fuse we're missing since we lost Barnes.

the sad part is the answer is yes to all of them yet we are signing this guy now. should have been signed a month ago

i'd argue pretty easily that he can contribute more than blake. that should be enough

its his defense that is more important to me. 9ppg is nice too compared to morris and duhon. assist wise it'll prob be the same or less.

Defensively, he's better then both Duhon & Morris. He'll battle on that end.
